Matt Rose is tied for sixth in the NCAA with 15 home runs. He leads the Sun Belt with 42 RBI. Rose, the junior infielder, now has 30 career bombs, eighth in GSU history. Only four active players in Division I--all seniors--have more career homers. Starting shortstop Justin Jones is one of the Sun Belt s top rookies with a.307 average, 27 RBI and 35 runs scored while playing excellent defense. He is first among all Sun Belt freshmen in batting average, hits and runs scored and ranks second in RBI, and he has helped GSU lead the league with 52 double plays. Junior catcher Joey Roach was named last week to the Capital One Academic All-District baseball team. Along with a 3.92 GPA in actuarial science, Roach is fourth in the Sun Belt in RBI (37) while hitting.324 with seven homers. He has thrown out 21 runners attempting to steal (35 percent) and picked off three others. Friday starter Nathan Bates (4-3) has twice been named Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week. Senior reliever Kevin Burgee became Georgia State s all-time saves leader with 15 after saving both ends of the DH sweep vs. ULM (April 11). Senior right-handed pitcher Jerry Stuckey is Georgia State s career leader in appearances with 90. He broke the previous GSU record (81 by Bobby Bennett) April 1 vs. Georgia Tech. Ryan Blanton was named National and Sun Belt Player of the Week March 16 after going 11-for-16 with three homers, six RBI and six runs scored. That included a school record with two homers and five RBI in the same inning in a 13-3 win over Kennesaw State (March 10). Senior infielder Caden Bailey is tied for fourth in GSU history with 243 career hits, which leads all active Sun Belt players. He is one of 10 players in Panther annals with 200+ hits, 100+ RBI and 100+ runs scored. The Panthers have won six extra-inning contests and eight games in their final at-bat since March 15. Georgia State is 6-3 in extra-inning games this season, including five Sun Belt wins. ROSE CLIMBS HR LIST: Now with 15 homers on the season, junior first baseman Matt Rose has moved into the Top 10 in Georgia State history with 30 career home runs. Only four active players in Division I have more career homers, and all four are seniors. Rose has hit his 30 homers in 144 games. The group includes four-year seniors Caden Bailey, Alex Prescott, Connor Stanley and Jerry Stuckey as well as two-year team members Kenny Anderson, Kevin Burgee and David Levy. ROACH NAMED CAPITAL ONE ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT: Junior catcher Joey Roach, who maintains a 3.92 grade-point average in actuarial science, was named to the Capital One Academic All-District baseball team, chosen by CoSIDA. Roach is batting.324 with seven homers and 37 RBI, which ranks fifth in the Sun Belt. He has thrown out 20 runners attempting to steal (35 percent), picked off three others and has a.990 fielding percentage. He is a two-time all-conference honoree, including first-team All-Sun Belt honors in 2014, and a two-time member of the Johnny Bench Award Watch List. PANTHERS EXCEL IN THE CLASSROOM: Continuing a history of academic success under head coach Greg Frady, the Georgia State baseball team posted a 3.18 grade point average for the spring semester. A total of 21 student-athletes had a 3.0 or higher, including an all-time high six on the President s List, which signifies a semester GPA of 4.0 or higher. Last fall, the team had a 3.08 GPA, and 24 individuals earned academic honors, including eight Dean s List honorees (3.5 GPA) and 16 members of the Athletic Director s Honor Roll (3.2 GPA). SERIES VS. GEORGIA SOUTHERN: Georgia State and Georgia Southern are meeting for the first time since 2007, when the Eagles won a pair of games in Statesboro, 9-4 and Georgia State s last win in the series was a 10-4 victory in Atlanta in Georgia Southern leads the all-time series ROSE FUELS COMEBACK WIN OVER APP STATE: Trailing 12-6 after seven innings, Georgia State scored nine runs in the eighth and ninth innings to earn a victory at Appalachian State (April 18). Matt Rose capped the comeback with the game-winning, two-run homer with one in the ninth inning, but he also drove in two runs in the Panthers six-run eighth inning. For the game, Rose was 4-for-5 with a career-high five RBI on a homer, two doubles and a single. BURGEE BREAKS SAVES RECORD: Senior right-hander Kevin Burgee is now Georgia State s all-time leader in saves. He broke the record April 11, when he saved both ends of a doubleheader vs. ULM for his 14th and 15th career saves. Junior righty Matt Rose is tied for seventh with seven career saves. In the starting lineup since Opening Day, the Warner Robins, Ga., native is hitting.307, including 12 extra-base hits, with 27 RBI and 35 runs. He leads all SunBelt freshmen in batting average, hits and runs scored while ranking second in RBI. Jones has driven in the go-ahead run in two extra inning games, most recently with his 12th-inning single at Appalachian State (April 17). One day later, he started the Panthers winning rally in the ninth with a one-out double. He hit his first career homer in a 10-5 win over Texas State (May 2) and had four RBI in the series He has also keyed the Panthers improved defense, which leads the Sun Belt with 52 double plays turned. Jones led Houston County High School to the Class AAAAA state title last spring. He was a member of the Warner Robins team that reached the 2009 Little League World Series.

He hit his first homer vs. UALR, and he has two triples on the season, including a runscoring triple in the ninth inning of GSU s 4-2 loss at Georgia. First baseman Jack Thompson has started 18 games and is hitting.292 with five doubles, one homer and 12 RBI. Right fielder Rhett Harper threw out a runner at home in the March inning victory at UTA. He gave GSU a walk-off win over Florida A&M by executing a squeeze bunt to score the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning, and he had a three-run double in the eighth inning of 10-5 win over Savannah State. Freshman reliever Logan Barnette is 3-0 on the season with a 1.19 ERA in 16 appearances, while left-hander Will White has a 2.92 ERA in 14 appearances. BATES NAMED PITCHER OF THE WEEK FOR SECOND TIME: Friday starter Nathan Bates was named Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season on March 30 after he opened the Panthers sweep at UT Arlington with seven shutout innings in Friday s 5-2 win. He allowed six hits and struck out five to improve to 3-0. Bates earned his first Sun Belt honor Feb. 16 after he carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning of Georgia State s Opening Day victory over Fordham. He faced the minimum before allowing a single with two outs in the seventh inning. Then he recorded his eighth strikeout to end the inning before giving way to the bullpen. Bates final line: no runs on one hit over seven innings with eight strikeouts and one walk. BLANTON NAMED NATIONAL AND SUN BELT PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Center fielder Ryan Blanton was named Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week and Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week on March 16 after going 11-for-16 with three homers, six RBI and six runs scored while leading Georgia State to a 3-0 week. Blanton collected eight hits in 11 at-bats as the Panthers swept a Sun Belt doubleheader at Arkansas State. In Game 1, he homered and then scored the game-winning run in the 12th inning after leading off the frame with a triple. He then had four hits in the 6-3 win in the nightcap. Earlier in the week Blanton had a recordsetting performance in GSU s 13-3 win over Kennesaw State, when he smashed two home runs and drove in five IN THE FIFTH INNING. Blanton led off the fifth with a solo homer, and when he came to the plate again with the bases loaded and one out, he belted his first career grand slam. He is just the second Georgia State player on record to homer twice in the same inning, joining Josh Vandiver (vs. Alabama State, 2000), and the first to have five RBI in an inning. The sophomore leadoff hitter said he had never before hit two homers in a game at any level, let alone two in an inning. Blanton earned GSU s third Louisville Slugger National Player-of-the-Week Award in the last two years after Nic Wilson won the honor twice in He is one of four Sun Belt honorees for the Panthers this season, joining Player of the Week Matt Rose (Feb. 16) and Pitcher Nathan Bates (Feb. 16 and March 30). ROSE S HOT START EARNS PLAYER-OF- THE-WEEK NOD: Junior infielder Matt Rose opened the season with three home runs and six RBI in the first three games to earn Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week honors for Feb. 18. The Preseason All-American went 5-for-11 (.455) with a slugging percentage and a.571 on-base mark. Rose belted two homers and drove in four runs to lead the Panthers to an 11-3, Opening Day win over Fordham. He hit his third homer, a two-run blast, Saturday to help GSU take a 6-3 lead over No. 23 Liberty into the ninth inning before falling in extra frames. BAILEY IS ACTIVE LEADER IN HITS: Senior infielder Caden Bailey is Georgia State s active leader in games (209), hits (243) and runs scored (121). He ranks in the top 25 among all

GSU 13, UALR 8: GSU trailed 7-6 before scoring seven runs in the eighth inning. Ryan Blanton drove in the tying run with a one-out single, and Matt Rose put the Panthers ahead with a two-run single. GSU 4, Appalachian State 3 (12): With one out in the 12th, David Levy and Ryan Blanton singled, then Justin Jones single brought home Levy. After a double steal of second and third, Blanton scored an insurance run on a passed ball. GSU 15, Appalachian State 13: Trailed 12-6 after seven innings, GSU tied the game with six runs in the eighth. Justin Jones had an RBI-triple, Matt Rose a two-run double, Sam Few a run-scoring single and Cam Sperry a two-run double. After App State scored one in the bottom of the ninth to lead 13-12, Jones got on base with a bloop double with one out and scored on Trae Sweeting s single up the middle. Bailey has also moved into a tie for fourth place all-time at Georgia State for career hits. He also ranks third in at-bats (797) and tied for sixth in games played (209). He had a runscoring single in the first inning, a grand slam (first of his career) in the second and a two-run homer in the fourth. That was the first twohomer game of his career. Roach had another two-homer game vs. Florida A&M ( ) with a solo shot and a two-run homer. PRESEASON ACCOLADES FOR ROSE: Junior infielder-pitcher Matt Rose earned Preseason All-America honors (D1Baseball, second team), becoming the third Panther in the last four years to be named to a Preseason All-America team. He joins outfielder Chase Raffield (2014) and relief pitcher Jake Dyer (2012). PEACH STATE PRODUCTS: Relying heavily on its talent-rich home state, the Georgia State roster features 25 of 34 players from Georgia, 20 of those from the metropolitan Atlanta area. The remaining nine Panthers hail from as far away as Canada, Washington and the Bahamas (2). The roster also includes four players from Florida and one from North Carolina. INTERNATIONAL FLAVOR: Junior pitcher Marc-André Habeck, one of the Panthers midweek starters, is a native of Canada, hailing from Winnipeg, Manitoba. Habeck is the latest in a line of Canadian standouts at Georgia State under head coach Greg Frady, including Jean- Michel Rochon-Salvas, Marc Mimeault, Carl Moniz and Ryan Fleming. Georgia State also has two players from the Bahamas in outfielders Trae Sweeting and Gerrio Rahming. Buchanan pitched at GSU in 2010 and then was drafted by the Phillies in the seventh round. He spent much of last summer in the Phillies starting rotation, winning six games. Georgia State s two 2014 All-Americans were drafted last June. First baseman Nic Wilson was selected in the 24th round by the Tampa Bay Rays and spent last summer in the Appalachian League, ranking second in the league in homers. Outfielder Chase Raffield was drafted in the 37th round by St. Louis Cardinals.
