The official name of the school is the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, or UNC Charlotte. However, the athletic teams all go by Charlotte 49ers. Niners is also a correct second reference. Charlotte has won 30 games in a school-record seven seasons. In 2010 & 2011, the Niners won back-toback regular season titles for the third-time in school history ( , ). The back-to-back league tournament titles in 2007 & 2008 were a first in program history. In 2011, Charlotte won its fourth A-10 title in six years of membership. The Niners recently recorded three consecutive 35-plus win seasons ( ) and twice recorded back-to-back 40-plus wins ( ) & ( ). The Here and Now for Both Teams Both teams stopped three-game losing skids with a win on Wednesday. Charlotte secured a comeback win overwinthrop at home, 7-4. Rhode Island won at Sacred Heart 7-5. This series will be the first home games of the season for the Rams. Charlotte is 4-2 at Bill Beck Field, with URI winning the last two (in 2010). The 49ers are 4-0 against the Rams in the A-10 Tournament., meeting in four of the last five tournaments. Rank and File The 49ers extended their streak of four consecutive seasons during which they beat an opponent ranked seven or higher in a national poll. North Carolina climbed to six before the 49ers beat them in Charlotte on 3/29/11 by a 4-3 final. Charlotte took down No. 7 Clemson at home on 3/16/10. That was the first home win over a Top 25 team since winning over then-no. 20 East Carolina on 4/13/02. The 49ers notched an 11-2 win over No. 3 South Carolina in Columbia on 4/5/08 and knocked off No. 5 North Carolina in Chapel Hill by a 2-1 final on 3/25/09. No Place Like Home The 49ers recently had their streak ended at 20 consecutive home series wins of three games or longer (without tying a four-game series) in March. Charlotte finished 27-6 at home in 2011 tied for the fourth-most home wins (1985) in team history after a 29-5 mark at home in 2010, tying the school record (1998) for home victories. Charlotte has recorded 20 or more home victories in a program-record six straight seasons. Including 2012, the Niners are (77.2%) in 162 games in the refurbished stadium since the park reopened on March 30, The 2012 senior class has a (76.1%) home record since Charlotte now has a 34-4 series record in home series of three or more games, including 12 straight conference series, a top-ten active mark nationally.
