First pitch for the opener is 7 p.m. Saturday s game is scheduled for 3 p.m. and will be televised on Fox Sports Carolinas and Fox Sports South. The Sunday series finale is set for 1:30 p.m. All three games can be heard on the Gamecock Radio Network from IMG College including flagship station, FM, The Game. Friday and Sunday s will feature Live Video Broadcast on the GamecocksOnline All Access Channel. At the midway point in league play, South Carolina is tied for second in the SEC East and tied for fourth place overall in the conference. A LOOK BACK South Carolina pounded out 14 hits including home runs from Connor Bright, Joey Pankake and Graham Saiko as the Gamecocks defeated College of Charleston 10-6 on Tuesday night in non-conference action at Carolina Stadium. Freshman left-hander Vince Fiori earned his first win of the season after pitching 2.1 innings of relief. He allowed one run, unearned, on two hits and struck out two batters. Patrick Sullivan and Adam Westmoreland each pitched 1.2 scoreless innings of relief with Sullivan allowing only one hit and striking out a batter while Westmoreland allowed no hits, with one walk and two strikeouts. College of Charleston starter Player Loving suffered the loss and falls to 1-2 on the year. Loving pitched one-plus inning, allowed five runs on five hits and walked one. The Gamecocks took a quick 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. With one out, Chase Vergason was hit by a pitch for a team-leading 10th time this season. Joey Pankake then hit a ball hard up the middle to put runners on the corners for LB Dantzler who drove in Vergason with a single to left-center. Carolina scored four runs in the bottom of the second to go ahead 5-0. Grayson Greiner drew a four-pitch walk to open the frame setting it up for Bright, who hit his fourth homer of the season, crushing a ball over the left field wall. Back-to-back singles by Tanner English and Graham Saiko followed by a walk to Vergason loaded the bases and a pair of sacrifice flies off the bats of Pankake and Dantzler would bring home English and Saiko respectively. The Cougars responded with a four-run inning of their own to cut the Gamecocks lead to 5-4. Devon Reed was hit by a pitch to start the top of the third, Carl Wise singled to put runners on the corners for Gunnar Heidt, who then drilled a ball past Pankake to bring home Reed and put the Cougars on the board. Brandon Murray sent a 2-1 pitch to deep left center field scoring Wise and a sacrifice fly off bat of Ben Boykin would bring in Heidt. With Murray in scoring position, pinch hitter Cody Martin knocked a double to the gap in right center field, driving in Murray and leaving South Carolina with a one-run lead. The Gamecocks tallied two more runs in the bottom of the third to take a 7-4 lead over the Cougars. After Max Schrock drew a leadoff walk, Bright hammered a double to left-center, bringing home Schrock and tying a career-high with three RBI s in a game. Bright would come home when Saiko sent a ball soaring over the College of Charleston second baseman for a RBI single. The Cougars added another run in the top of the fourth. Reed reached base on an error, advanced to third on Butler s double down the left field line and came home when Wise grounded out to Pankake. A pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth increased the South Carolina lead to 9-5. Saiko doubled to the gap in right center field and then with two outs Pankake came to the plate and launched a 1-0 pitch over the left field wall for a two-run homer. Pankake tied a season-high with three hits in a game as well as a season-high three RBI s in a game for the fourth time this year. In the bottom of the eighth Saiko hit his first career homer for the 10th run of the game. He had a career-high four hits as well. In the top of ninth, College of Charleston tacked on one more run to cut South Carolina s lead to Heidt hit a two-out double off the wall in left field and he scored on Brandon Murray s RBI single..

The Gamecocks are No. 14 in the USA Today coaches poll, No. 18 by Baseball America and No. 22 by Collegiate Baseball. ON THE MOUND The Gamecock pitching staff currently owns a 3.20 ERA in innings pitched. Carolina has allowed 146 runs, 120 earned, on 312 hits with 97 walks to 315 strikeouts. Opponents are hitting.243 against the squad. AT THE PLATE & ON THE FIELD South Carolina is hitting.287 (361-for-1256) as a team. The Gamecocks lead the SEC with 35 homers. GREINER A CANDIDATE FOR THE JOHNNY BENCH AWARD South Carolina sophomore catcher Grayson Greiner is one of 48 catchers to be named to the Johnny Bench Award Watch List as announced by the Greater Wichita Sports Commission and presented by BaseballSavings.com. Greiner was the top hitter for the Gamecocks in the weekend series at Florida with a.455 average (5-for-11). Greiner leads the team in SEC games with a.362 average (17-for-47) in 13 starts in league play. He has raised his season average to.306 (34-for-111) with 16 runs scored, five doubles, three homers and 25 RBI. He is on a career-long seven-game hitting streak. Greiner went 6-for-9 (.667) in two starts at Tennessee. He homered, tallied a career-high four hits and drove in a career-high four runs in the 19-2 win on Sunday. The watch list will be narrowed down to the semifinalists, whom will be announced May 16, Ballots will be sent to the national voting panel at the end of May for a vote to determine the three finalists. The finalists will be announced June 4, A final vote among the national committee will occur during the College World Series. All finalists will be brought to Wichita and the winner will be announced at the 15th Annual Greater Wichita Sports Banquet on June 27, WESTMORELAND EFFECTIVE IN RELIEF Senior left-hander Adam Westmoreland continues to be one of the team s top performers out of the bullpen. Westmoreland hurled 1.2 scoreless innings with no hits allowed in the 10-6 win over College of Charleston. It was his sixth scoreless outing from the pen in 14 relief appearances this year. For the season, he is 4-1 with a 1.74 ERA and two saves. He has 40 strikeouts to six walks in 41.1 innings. Opponents are hitting.192 against him. Westmoreland ranks fourth in the league in opposing batting average and sixth in earned run average.

5 5 BELCHER BRINGS IT Senior left-hander Nolan Belcher had a quality start despite the loss in Thursday s 3-2 defeat to Florida. Belcher hurled his second complete game of the season and allowed three runs, one earned, on seven hits in eight innings with a walk and two strikeouts. Belcher for the season is 5-3 with a 1.63 ERA in 66.1 innings with five walks to 55 strikeouts. Opponents are hitting just.218 against him. He is tied for the league lead in innings pitched, is fourth in earned run average as well as seventh in strikeouts and tied for ninth in victories. Belcher pitched the first complete game shutout of his career in the 8-0 victory vs. Clemson. Belcher allowed just three hits and no walks while striking out seven batters in the win. Only one base runner reached third base the entire game for the Tigers. It is the first complete game shutout by a Gamecock pitcher since Sam Dyson on May 15, 2010 in a 5-0 win at Arkansas. Belcher s complete game shutout was also the first by a Gamecock pitcher in the Clemson series since May 4, 1986 when Rodney Richey hurled a four-hit complete game shutout in a 5-0 victory vs. the Tigers at Sarge Frye Field. BASEBALL AT CAROLINA STADIUM HOME RECORD Year Record Pct TOTAL SAIKO LEADS IT OFF Junior outfielder Graham Saiko had a career day vs. the College of Charleston with four hits, his first homer in a Gamecock uniform, three runs scored and a pair of RBI in the 10-6 win. Saiko has improved his batting average to.304 (34-for-112). His on-base percentage is.414 with an impressive 24 walks to just 10 strikeouts. He leads Carolina with 10 stolen bases in 12 attempts. A BRIGHT SPOT Sophomore outfielder Connor Bright is the team s leading hitter with a.330 average (36-for-109) with five doubles, a triple, four homers and 13 RBI. Bright has a.310 average (18-for-58) in league play as well. Bright homered and doubled and tied a career-high with three RBI in the 10-6 win over College of Charleston. He also went 5-for-12 in the Florida series including three hits and a homer in the 4-3 loss on Friday. WELCOME BACK JORDAN Sophomore left-hander Jordan Montgomery made his second start back since his stress reaction in his left arm last Friday at Florida. Montgomery went three innings and allowed one run, unearned, on four hits with a walk and two strikeouts. For the season, Montgomery is 3-0 with a 0.69 ERA with 23 strikeouts in 26.0 innings pitched. SCHROCK MAKING STRIDES Freshman second baseman Max Schrock went 2-for-5 with a homer and three RBI in the 14-5 loss at Florida. Schrock is hitting.260 (34-for-131) with six doubles, two triples and three homers as well as 28 RBI. Schrock leads the Gamecocks with 11 multi-hit games. He also has nine stolen bases, second highest on the team. Schrock was named SEC Freshman of the Week for his play the week of April 2-7. He hit.500 (11-for-22) with seven runs scored and eight RBI in five games. His game-winning RBI double in the top of the ninth inning lifted the Gamecocks to a 5-4 win over Tennessee. He followed that up with a double, a homer and two RBI in the 12-8 win over the Volunteers. In the series finale, he had a career-high four hits with a career-high four RBI as well as two runs scored in the 19-2 win over Tennessee. The four hits matched an individual high for a Gamecock player in a game this year. He was 7-for-12 (.583) in the Tennessee series with five runs scored and seven RBI against the Volunteers. PANKAKE RISES Sophomore shortstop Joey Pankake went 3-for-4 with a homer, a run scored and three RBI in the 10-6 win over College of Charleston. The hits and RBI totals tied a season-high. Pankake is hitting.292 (40-for-137) for the year with 24 runs scored, five doubles, seven homers and 28 RBI. Pankake hit a walk-off homer on April 19 in the bottom of the ninth inning in Carolina s 6-5 win over The Citadel. BRISON PRODUCES Junior designated hitter Brison Celek continues to find his way on base. Celek had three hits and four walks with a.500 on-base percentage in the Florida series. In 16 games with 11 starts, Celek has a.333 average (13-for-39) with eight runs scored and nine RBI. His on-base percentage for the season is.490. HOLMES WITH THE ANSWER Senior right-hander Colby Holmes became the 21st pitcher in school history to record 20 or more wins with his victory at Tennessee on April 7, He earned two wins this past week. In a predetermined split on Tuesday in the 9-5 win over Charleston Southern, he pitched 3.1 innings, allowing two runs on four hits with no walks and struck out two batters. He followed that up with five innings of relief allowing just two runs, one earned, on two hits with no walks and three strikeouts in the 19-2 win over Tennessee. A BIT OF ENGLISH Sophomore outfielder Tanner English scored three runs and drove in four in the Tennessee series. English owns a.291 average (25-for-86) with 17 runs scored and 10 RBI. He has a.431 on-base percentage. TYLER WEBB MAKES HIS MARK Senior left-hander Tyler Webb is 1-1 with a 0.75 ERA and 11 saves in 24 relief innings. He has 36 strikeouts to seven walks. Webb earned the win in Friday s 5-4 win with four strikeouts in 1.2 innings. He followed that up with one scoreless inning of relief in Saturday s 12-8 win. Webb s two relief appearances this weekend increased his career total to 95 and surpassed Michael Roth (94 from ) for second in all-time history at South Carolina. 7 7 OFFENSIVE PERFORMANCE AT TENNESSEE This weekend s series at Tennessee was the team s best weekend at the plate as Carolina hit.375 (45-for-120) with 36 runs scored. The Gamecocks had 12 doubles, a triple and four homers as well. Carolina belted out a season-high 21 hits with 10 different Gamecocks recording at least one hit on the way to a 19-2 victory over Tennessee. The 19 runs on Sunday were the most in a game for Carolina since 24 vs. College of Charleston in 2011 and the most in a SEC game since scoring 20 in 2010 vs. Alabama. NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE WEEK Joey Pankake was named Louisville Slugger s National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball and was also named SEC Player of the Week on March 11. Pankake belted four homers, scored seven runs and knocked in nine runs for the Gamecocks the week of March 4-10 and he hit.438 (7-for-16). Pankake was the second Gamecock player this year to earn SEC Player of the Week honors. LB Dantzler was an honoree by the conference on Feb. 25. STRIKE THEM OUT South Carolina registered 17 strikeouts in the 3-2 win vs. Texas A&M on Thursday. That is the most strikeouts for the Gamecocks in a game this year and was one short of the single game record. Evan Beal had six strikeouts in 3.1 innings with Westmoreland striking out seven and Webb striking out four in the game. EVAN ALMIGHTY Sophomore right-hander Evan Beal was stellar in a start at Missouri. Beal allowed just one run on eight hits in 6.1 innings of work with one walk and a career-high 10 strikeouts in the 4-1 win over Missouri. SEDDON SETTLES IN Sophomore right-hander Joel Seddon was stellar in his first start of the year as the Gamecocks defeated Davidson. He pitched four scoreless innings with just two hits allowed while striking out a career-high six batters. Seddon is 1-0 with a 5.65 ERA on the year. He has 16 strikeouts in 14.1 innings pitched. VINNY Freshman left-hander Vince Fiori has been productive from the left side out of the bullpen. He has a 3.29 ERA in nine relief appearances with 13 strikeouts in 13.2 innings. Opponents have hit just.235 against him. IN A PINCH WITH MARTIN Sophomore Kyle Martin continues to be a hot bat off the bench as he had a pair of quality pinch-hit base hits last week. Martin had a key pinch-hit double in the 9-5 win over The Citadel as well as a single in the 5-3 loss to Arkansas. He is batting.250 (8-for-32) for the season. MIX IT UP Many Gamecocks were in the mix to help Carolina to a series victory vs. Clemson. Nine different Gamecock position players had at least one RBI over the weekend. Greiner, Bright and Vergason all had two hits apiece to lead the Gamecocks at the plate. Bright went 2-for-3 with a two-run double with Greiner 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a RBI and Vergason 2-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored.

8 8 MONTGOMERY WITH A CONVINCING START Jordan Montgomery opened the Clemson series with eight scoreless innings of work in the 6-0 win over the Tigers. Montgomery did not allow a runner to reach third base as he limited the Tigers to three hits and two walks in the victory. Montgomery tied a career-high with eight innings pitched for the third time in his career and struck out a career-high nine batters in the victory. Montgomery was named the Tom Price Award winner at the conclusion of the series, the award given to the Gamecocks MVP for the season series against the Tigers. Montgomery is only the third Gamecock pitcher to earn the award that has been given since Also earning the award was right-handers Aaron Rawl (2003) and Nick Godwin (2008). MORE ON DANTZLER Dantzler tied three Carolina Stadium records for a three-game series with 17 total bases, nine hits and six runs scored in the Alabany series. It is the most hits in a threegame series at Carolina Stadium since Jackie Bradley Jr. tallied nine in a three-game series vs. Vanderbilt (May 1-3, 2009). It s the most total bases since Nick Ebert finished with 17 vs. Georgia (May 14-16, 2009) and the most runs since Jackie Bradley Jr. had six vs. Mississippi State (April 2-4, 2010). A NO-NO The 14-1 victory over Albany featured a combined no-hitter by Colby Holmes, Forrest Koumas and Josh Knab. It is the first no-hitter by a Gamecock team in 38 years since March 26, 1975 when Ray Lavigne hurled a no-hitter in an 8-0 win over George Mason. It is the seventh no-hitter in school history and the first combined no-hitter as well. Holmes opened the outing with six innings of work allowing just one walk and an unearned run. He struck out three batters. Koumas followed with two scoreless innings in which he walked three and struck out one. Knab closed out the no-hitter with a perfect ninth inning inducing three consecutive groundouts. NINE TO FIVE Carolina s nine-run total in the bottom of the 5th inning vs. Albany was the most runs in an inning by the Gamecocks since 10 on March 9, 2010 in the bottom of the third of a 12-4 win over Valparaiso GAMECOCKS HONORED Before last Saturday s game vs. Albany, the Gamecocks honored members of the 1977 National Runner-Up squad. June Raines first club was recognized for their achievements and presented College World Series rings. Former players that returned were: William Allen, Jamie Chakales, Ronnie Crapps, John Hinkel, Hal Hutchens, Mark Kish, Randy Martz, Chuck McLean, Richard Ness, Robbie Parrish, Don Repsher, David Small, Michael Toalson and Mookie Wilson. Steve King s daughter also accepted her father s ring. Athletic trainer Daryl Driggers, assistant coach Johnny Hunton and June Raines attended as well. WHAT A RALLY The seven-run rally for the Gamecocks in the 8-7 victory over Liberty was the largest comeback from a deficit since Carolina rallied from an eight-run deficit in a win at Tennessee on May 9, A FIRST For the first time in school history, South Carolina opened a season with three consecutive one-run games. Last year, the Gamecocks opened the year with two one-run victories vs. VMI. OPENING DAY South Carolina is now on Opening Day. The Gamecocks have won 15 consecutive Opening Day games. The win also marked head coach Chad Holbrook s first career victory as a head coach in collegiate baseball. South Carolina is 9-3 on Opening Day in one-run games dating back to TANNER S JERSEY RETIRED Before the season opener, former head coach and current athletics director Ray Tanner was honored for his 16 years as a head coach for the Gamecocks. The pregame ceremony was topped off by the retiring of his No. 1 jersey, the first jersey to be retired in South Carolina baseball history. Tanner served as head coach of the baseball program for 16 seasons from Tanner led South Carolina to back-to-back NCAA Division I Baseball Championships in 2010 and 2011 as well as a pair of national runner-up finishes, six College World Series appearances, three SEC championships, six SEC Eastern division titles, a SEC tournament crown. He went to 10 NCAA Super Regionals in 14 NCAA Tournament appearances as well. Under the direction of Tanner, South Carolina s postseason success from is arguably the greatest run in collegiate baseball history. In the three-year span, the Gamecocks established NCAA records with 22 consecutive postseason wins and 12 consecutive wins in the College World Series. The Gamecocks won the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship in 2010 and 2011 with a national runner-up finish in Tanner went , his winning percentage for the Gamecocks was.700, the second highest winning percentage in SEC history. PRESEASON ALL-AMERICA HONORS Sophomore catcher Grayson Greiner, senior left-handed pitcher Tyler Webb, senior right-handed pitcher Colby Holmes and sophomore left-handed pitcher Jordan Montgomery all earned Preseason All-America honors. All four were named to the 2013 Louisville Slugger Preseason All-America team as announced by Collegiate Baseball. Greiner was a second-team selection with Holmes, Montgomery and Webb named to the third team. Greiner returns after earning Freshman All-America honors last season by Collegiate Baseball. He was a SEC All-Freshman selection and hit six homers with 32 RBI with 13 doubles as well. Webb, who garnered second-team Preseason All-America honors earlier in the month from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, went 6-1 with a 1.56 ERA last year in 39 relief appearances. Montgomery and Holmes both were starters last season. Montgomery went 6-1 with a 3.62 ERA in 74.2 innings with Holmes going 7-2 with a 3.05 ERA in 79.2 innings. Montgomery also earned Freshman All-America honors last year.

Sophomore shortstop Joey Pankake was rated the No. 9 best prospect in the SEC for the 2014 Draft as well as the No. 35 sophomore in the country. Pankake was also selected as the infielder with the Best Arm in the SEC. Sophomore catcher Grayson Greiner was right behind Pankake and rated the No. 10 best prospect in the SEC for the 2014 draft as well as the No. 44 best sophomore. Greiner was also recognized as the catcher with the Best Arm in the SEC. Freshman infielder Max Schrock is rated the No. 6 best newcomer in the SEC and the No. 19 best freshman in college baseball with sophomore outfielder Tanner English named as the Fastest Runner in the SEC and the No. 48 best sophomore. Several Gamecock seniors are recognized with left-hander Tyler Webb rated the No. 12 best senior, infielder LB Dantzler the No. 30 best senior and right-handed pitcher Colby Holmes the No. 47 best senior in the nation. OH CAPTAIN - MY CAPTAIN Senior left-handed pitcher Nolan Belcher, senior infielder LB Dantzler and senior right-handed pitcher Patrick Sullivan have been named captains for the season. They earned the honor after a vote by their teammates. GAMECOCKS SELECTED TO FINISH THIRD IN EASTERN DIVISION IN SEC COACHES POLL South Carolina was selected to finish in third place in the Eastern Division in the 2013 SEC Preseason Coaches Poll that was released on Tuesday, Feb. 12. Both the Gamecocks and Kentucky shared a tie for third place in the poll. The Gamecocks won the SEC East in 2012 and tied for first place and the SEC championship in Carolina has finished in the top three places of the SEC Eastern Division 16 of 21 seasons since joining the league. Arkansas is the choice to win the 2013 SEC championship with Vanderbilt the choice to win the East. 42 42 Head Coach Chad Holbrook Chad Holbrook was named head baseball coach for the University of South Carolina on July 16, Holbrook was promoted to the top spot by athletics director Ray Tanner after serving four seasons as associate head coach and recruiting coordinator for the Gamecocks. Coach Holbrook is a man of tremendous character and experience, said Tanner. He will successfully lead our Gamecocks for years to come. This job as South Carolina s head baseball coach could have attracted many across the country, but the best man for this job was already here. Coach Holbrook s a great recruiter and evaluator of talent. He will be a great ambassador for the University of South Carolina. Holbrook came to South Carolina in July 2008 as associate head coach. Along with his recruiting coordinator duties, he served as hitting instructor, overseeing the Gamecock offense, including base running and the short game and was the third base coach. He also worked with the outfielders. Holbrook came to the Gamecock program after serving 15 seasons as a member of the University of North Carolina coaching staff. Holbrook was recently honored as the 2011 ABCA/Baseball America Assistant Coach of the Year. A tremendous evaluator of talent, Holbrook recently was named the No. 10 best recruiter in all of college sports by ESPNU & ESPN The Magazine in the publication s 2011 January edition. The list was put together in conjunction with three-dozen experts who were asked the question: Who are the top 20 recruiters in college sports? Holbrook was the only baseball coach on the list. Holbrook s offensive prowess has made an immediate impact on the South Carolina baseball program in his first four seasons. His guidance was instrumental in helping the Gamecocks to back-to-back national championships in 2010 and 2011 at the College World Series as well as a national runner-up finish in Holbrook helped in the development of two-time All-America Christian Walker, who led the Gamecocks in all three Triple Crown categories the last two years. He finished 2012 hitting.321 (77-for-240) with 11 homers and 55 RBI as well as a.450 on-base percentage and a.525 slugging percentage. Walker was a fourth round selection by the Baltimore Orioles in the 2012 MLB Draft. Walker was named to the CWS All-Tournament team for a third time. He tied a CWS record for hits also in a career as he notched 28 that put him alongside Dustin Ackley of North Carolina ( ), ironically also a player that Holbrook recruited and coached in Chapel Hill. Holbrook helped bridge together a new crop of Gamecocks in the 2012 season as he molded newcomers Tanner English, Grayson Greiner and Joey Pankake into SEC All-Freshman honorees. All three would factor into Carolina s successful season. The group of newcomers was also rated the top recruiting class in the country in 2011 by Collegiate Baseball and No. 6 in the nation by Baseball America. Holbrook played a key role in 2011 MLB supplemental draft selection Jackie Bradley Jr. s Gamecock career. In 2010 Bradley was a 2010 All-SEC selection and College World Series Most Outstanding Player. That season, Holbrook helped to oversee an offense that peaked in the postseason with a.309 batting average in 12 postseason contests. Evan Marzilli was the team s top postseason hitter with a.419 average (18-for-43) with Walker right behind him at.389 (21-for-54) and Bradley hitting.348 with four HR and 17 RBI. Carolina finished the season with a.300 team batting average as well as a.392 on-base percentage. The squad s 734 hits were second highest in the conference with the team also tallying 298 walks, 14th highest in the country. In 2009, Holbrook s first season, the Gamecocks finished with a team batting average of.310 on the year, the highest average in the last nine seasons, along with an improved on-base percentage of.394 and a.528 slugging percentage. Carolina was fifth in the nation with 109 home runs. Among the players he tutored that first year were Freshman All-America Jackie Bradley Jr. and 2009 All-SEC selections, Justin Dalles, Nick Ebert, Bobby Haney and DeAngelo Mack. Prior to joining the Gamecock program, Holbrook worked for 15 seasons on the North Carolina coaching staff. While at UNC, the Tar Heels made 11 NCAA Tournament appearances including four NCAA Super Regionals and three trips to the College World Series. The 2007 squad captured an ACC championship, the first at UNC since 1990 when Holbrook was a freshman. At UNC, Holbrook mentored several top players including 2008 second-team All-America outfielder Tim Fedroff, third-team All-America first baseman Dustin Ackley and third-team All- America second baseman Kyle Seager. Ackley also earned third-team All-America honors in 2007 and was both Baseball America & Collegiate Baseball s Freshman of the Year. Ackley was drafted No. 2 overall in the 2009 MLB Draft by the Seattle Mariners. In addition, Holbrook was instrumental in recruiting current Major League Baseball players Daniel Bard, Matt Harvey, Chris Iannetta, Andrew Miller, Seager and Ackley to UNC. As recruiting coordinator for the North Carolina program, Holbrook put together consecutive top 10 recruiting classes that helped the Tar Heels in making three consecutive College World Series appearances. From , North Carolina led the nation in wins with 54 in 2006, 57 in 2007 and 54 in PG Cross Checker ranked his last UNC recruiting class No. 3 in the nation. Holbrook s 2007 class ranked fourth in the nation by Baseball America with his 2006 class selected eighth in the country. Baseball America also ranked his 2004 class 11th in the nation with the publication naming the Tar Heels recruiting class of 2003 as the No. 1 group in the country. That 2003 class tied for first in Collegiate Baseball s recruiting rankings with South Carolina. Under Holbrook s eye, UNC batted.324 as a team in the 2008 season and posted six of the top seven hitting seasons in Tar Heel history. The Tar Heels led the nation in hits in 2007 as well with 820 to finish the year. The school record for batting average in Chapel Hill was also set under Holbrook s direction in 2002 when the Tar Heels finished with a.325 mark. Holbrook served as undergraduate assistant coach in 1994 and was promoted to full-time assistant in the fall of Holbrook served as assistant coach up to 2007 when he earned a promotion to associate head coach. Holbrook worked one summer in the Cape Cod League as head coach of the Harwich Mariners in 1997 where he led them to the Eastern Division championship. Before joining the North Carolina staff, Holbrook played for the Tar Heels from He was a second-team All-ACC selection as a senior when he hit.353 at the plate. He also earned all-tournament team honors in 1993 at the NCAA Central I Regional in College Station, Texas, where he hit.565 (13-for-23) with three doubles and two triples in five games.
