In those 65 years, there were leagues in every community surrounding East Conemaugh. Franklin, Daisytown, East Suburban (Frankstown Field), and East Conemaugh were leagues that coexisted within the current Conemaugh Valley School District boundary saw those leagues combine into one, Conemaugh Valley Youth League, with the main playing field in East Conemaugh. CVYL has a collection of pictures and information from the early years on our website. We are looking for more pictures and information that will help us have a more complete history of our storied beginnings of a league. If you have any pictures or information that you would like to share with us, please send it to contactcvyl@gmail.com BULLDOGS CVYL is looking for pictures and information of the leagues, fields and teams of: East Conemaugh Little League Franklin Little League Daisytown Little League Conemaugh Valley Youth League Please include the date, league, and team name with all pictures. to: contactcvyl@gmail.com 1968 DOLANS HARDWARE Important CVYL Dates (January - May) January : 2017 Sigh-ups 9am-12pm 8: CVYL Monthly Meeting 7 pm 21: Sub & Pizza Pickup 8:30 am 9:30am February : 2017 Sign-ups 9 am 12 pm 12: CVYL Monthly Meeting 7 pm 18: Sub & Pizza Pickup 8:30 am 9:30am March : Annual Gun Raffle This Is It, 5:00pm 12: CVYL Monthly Meeting 7 pm 18: Sub and Pizza Pickup 8:30 am 9:30am April : Uniform Pickup CVHS Cafeteria, 6:00pm 9: CVYL Monthly Meeting 7 pm 21-22: Opening Weekend CVYL Main Field, All Day May : CVYL Monthly Meeting 7 pm 27-29: Memorial Day Break NO GAMES SCHEDULED
4 CVYL NEWSLETTER January 2017 Issue 1 Becoming a Volunteer at CVYL CVYL will be accepting advertising sign donations for our outfield fences. If you own a business and would like to advertise with us, visit our website at and under announcements click The cost is $135 for a new banner sign and it will be displayed from April through October. Coach/Volunteer Clearances CVYL will be requiring all managers, coaches, umpires, and volunteers to submit and provide a copy of the clearances that are required by Pennsylvania Law. If you have lived in Pennsylvania for the past 10 years, the following clearances will be required. Child Abuse Clearance State Police Criminal History Clearance These clearances are free for all volunteers and must be completed prior to contact with any youth that participate with programs provided by CVYL. If you have any questions please contact any league officer at: ges/officers.aspx. Why Should I Become a Volunteer? Little League Baseball and Softball is an organization designed to build good citizens. It is a program of leadership, preparing today's youth to be tomorrow's leaders. CVYL relies on a devoted group of adult volunteers to help ensure that the organization remains structured and runs smoothly. We are always looking for responsible and enthusiastic individuals to support and coordinate league events and activities. As a volunteer, you should have a keen interest in the safety, well-being, and overall development of children. By reading further, you will discover that the benefits of volunteering are endless. You will also gain a better understanding of why you should become involved, who volunteers are, what you can do, and how you can sign up. Who Can Volunteer? Anyone can apply to become a volunteer. Whatever talents or skills you have, we can use them! Across the country, volunteers are grandparents, siblings, aunts and uncles, retirees, community leaders, former Little Leaguers, friends, neighbors, and more. Any community member who wishes to become a volunteer may apply. All parents of children involved in Little League Baseball and Softball are strongly encouraged to volunteer. As a parent, volunteer, you have the opportunity to spend quality time with your child in a safe, fun-filled environment. Oftentimes, parent and child social lives parallel each other. Volunteering allows your life and your child's life to intersect on common ground, with shared interests and goals. How Do I Become A Volunteer? Parents, take a minute to fill out the volunteer form while registering your child. If you are not a parent and would like to volunteer, take a minute to fill out the form while visiting registration.
5 CVYL NEWSLETTER Issue 1 5 When you apply to become a volunteer, you give the local Little League organization the right to conduct necessary background checks. What Can I Volunteer To Do? No experience is required to become a volunteer. Most of the volunteer opportunities require little or no training. CVYL representatives will provide you with any necessary training (as well as support and encouragement), as they deem necessary. The best volunteers are those who are able to bring added enjoyment to the game simply be being themselves. What you see during Little League games is a mere fraction of what you can do as a volunteer. You can volunteer to help in virtually any aspect of Little League Baseball or Softball League Fundraisers Sub and Pizza Sales CVYL will hold three sub and pizza sales in January, February, and March. 6 CVYL NEWSLETTER Issue 1 6 Little League Bat Information CVYL Tournaments With the Little League International Board of Directors formally adopting USA Baseball s new standard for bat performance testing, Little League International fully supports this program. For more than seventy-five years, Little League has used improvements in science, engineering, and technology to take the sport of baseball to higher levels. By utilizing the most current advancements available, manufacturers can now develop bats with a wood-like performance, which is important for the long-term success of the game. Developed by a USA Baseball committee of scientific experts, Little League Baseball has decided to adopt the new bat standard for mandated use effective January 1, All national members of USA Baseball, including Little League, are encouraged to adopt this new standard. Little League-approved bats can be used through December 31, 2017, and our current bat regulations will be in effect until then. That includes the moratorium prohibiting the use of all 2 ¼ inch barrel baseball bats constructed with composite material in the barrel, unless approved. A complete approved 2017 bat list can be found on our website Please note that as of January 1, 2018, the new USA Baseball Bat Standard will be implemented. Little League-approved baseball bats that are approved for use for the 2017 season will no longer be acceptable for use in any Little League game or activity starting on January 1, Each season, CVYL hosts 4 tournaments at our field in Conemaugh during July;. Ages Baseball, 9-10 Baseball, 12U Softball, and 10U Softball. The tournaments are always a special time of year for CVYL.
