Grant Storm and Eli Simonsson lost the first set in 1st doubles but won a tie breaker in the second set and a thrilling 10-8 win in the super tie breaker. In the East Grand Forks match the doubles team took care of business with all straight set wins. Matt Vogel at third singles started slow but won a super tie breaker 10-8 to win his match. The match of the entire day was JJ Foster and #1 ranked section player Ben Kern. JJ dominated the first set 6-3 but Kern came back with a 6-2 win in the second set. The super tie breaker went back and forth with Beck pulling off a 10-8 win. Derek Berning and Wade Smith played great tennis and also had straight set wins at 2nd and 4th singles. Wade Smith, Derek Berning, and AJ Bollman all collected 3 wins for the day. Evan Lattimore and Alex Jost recorded their first varsity wins for the year. The whole team competed tremendously all day playing 6 matches in the last 3 days. A day of rest and then road matches at Brainerd Monday and Willmar Tuesday. This team is showing a lot of heart up and down the line up. The young Cards played to a close game, but came up a little short. Leading the hitting attack was Georgia Lussenhop with a Double and a single. Taylor Sayre banged out a long triple along with a bunt single. Paige Honkomp had a double and Courtney Gould punched a single up the middle to round out the hitting. Carly Burns was on the mound with Sidney Drew doing the catching. Burns finished the night giving up 4 runs on 10 hits, walking 3 and striking out 1 batter. We had our opportunities in this game as we left the bases loaded twice. The little things in the game of fastpitch are crucial to success. We are still trying to take care of the little things and when we reduce our errors the girls will see more success. Alexandria 5 Sartell 8 Sartell came to AAHS on Friday for a double header. A well played game by both teams in the first game netted the Sabres a win. 3b---- Autumn Botz, and Paige Honkomp 2b---- Honkomp, Sidney Drew, and Courtney Gould 1b---- Taylor Sayre, Sidney Drew (2) Carly Burns took to the mound with Sidney Drew taking care of the catching duties. 12 hits 5 BB

5 1K Alexandria 5 Sartell 8 (2 nd Game) Same score as the first game as Nikki Botzett took to the mound for her first game of the year. 2b--- Autumn Botz, and Sidney Drew 1b--- Taylor Sayre, Kelsea Haugen, Jackie Niska, Jordyn Marshall, and Calista Bergquist. Nikki Botzet was on the mound with Paige Honkomp and Taylor Wagner doing the catching. 10 hits 8 BB 0 k s Home tournament on Saturday Alexandria 20 Eden-Valley Watkins 9 On a beautiful Saturday afternoon EVW came to town for our annual home tournament. The bats came alive as we were able to bang out 19 hits in this game. The Fireworks started as our leadoff hitter Freshman Autumun Botz hit a bomb over the left centerfield fence for a homerun to start off the scoring. Not to be outdone Freshmen Sidney Drew matched Botz in the first inning hitting her own homerun over the Centerfield fence and the scoring kept on for the game. Botz finished the game with 4 doubles and a homerun. Drew finished the game with a homerun, double, and 2 singles. 1B Drew (2), Honkomp (2), Calista Bergquist, Carly Burns, Kelsea Haugen (2), Kyli Merzweski 2B Botz (4), Taylor Sayre, Sidney Drew, and Paige Honkomp (2) 3B Nikki Botzet HR Botz, and Drew It was fun to see the excitement in the dugout and the field during this game. Improvements continue to show in their play each game. The varsity plays St. Cloud Tech on Tuesday, but they don t have a JV team. SOFTBALL 9 TH GRADE Alexandria 12 Sartell 10 Alexandria 7 Sartell 11 On Friday, the A team clinched their first win against Sartell with a walk-off hit by Joria Downing! The girls battled back from an early deficit. Down by 2 at the bottom of the 5th inning, we scored on a passed ball to

6 put us within 1. With a few unsuccessful at-bats, we had bases loaded with two outs. Joria Downing got it down for us by placing a nice blooper behind the first baseman scoring 3 runs to win the game for us! After a rollercoaster first game, the girls fought hard but just couldn't get the job done in the second game. BASEBALL JV Alexandria 6 vs Fergus Falls 6 Last Thursday after a super come back the JV Cards ended up tying the Otters due to time restraints - playing prior to the Varsity game we only had so much time to complete our game and thanks to Isaac Peterson s 2 clutch doubles we came away w/a tie. Alexandria 8 Pequot Lakes 0 Behind the 8 strike out and only 2 walk performance from Jack Allen the Cards evened their season record to The JV Cards pounded the ball all over the park lead by Luke LeVasseur & Isaac Sanow s 2 hit s each everyone was in on the action and Ham Johnson s pinch hit single powered the Cards to victory a good team effort & the defense was flawless! A very challenging week ahead w/a double dip in St. Cloud Tech Tuesday, host Rocori on Thurs & finish the week w/a B. home to get some revenge! Support Cardinal baseball. Congratulations Blake! SENIORS ACTIVITY ACHIEVEMENT AWARD Applications are available in the activities office for any senior wishing to apply for the Cardinal Activity Achievement Award. Students who are involved in multiple activities throughout their senior year in high school, but who do not qualify for the Tri-Sport Athlete Award may be eligible to receive the Cardinal Activity Achievement Award. The deadline to apply is Wednesday May 10 th. Three sport athletes do not need to apply for this award. SENIOR GRAD PARTY TICKETS 2017 Senior Graduation Party Date: June 11th Time: 10:30pm - 5:00am Place: Runestone Community Center Cost: $20 (after June 2nd $25) Tickets will be on sale May 19th, May 26th and June 2nd during all lunch periods in the commons at AAHS.
