Evan Lattimer & Alex Jost (A) 6-2, 6-4 Yesterday the Cardinal boys tennis team traveled to Sartell to play Brainerd indoors. With the rain in the morning and the outlook for more rain in the afternoon we set up a date to make up our rain out with Brainerd and get our home match with them all in one outing. Turns out we had no rain in the afternoon and we could have played the matches at home on the AAHS courts. Brainerd defeated the cards in the first match 6-1. Our lone win came from Wade Smith at fourth singles where he had to play three hard sets, winning the first set 6-2, losing the second set 2-6, and then coming back to get the rubber set 6-2. Our second and third doubles teams lost close matches with Hunter & Zach losing in three sets, two of them in breakers. AJ & Jacob lost in two close sets. The second match was not close as we took one on the chin losing 0-7. We played some good points and games but the Warriors are a very good team and you have to earn every point, and they are not easy to come by. Evan Lattimer and Alex Jost played the third doubles spot, and even though the result was the same as everyone else, they played some good tennis and challenged their opponents all the way through. This was an important match in terms of the conference and the north sub-section, so with these results the Cardinals look to be the 3rd seed in the north. We fall to 9-10 overall, and will travel to Apollo Thursday. BASEBALL VARSITY Alexandria 10 Sauk Rapids 0 Carter Stockert recorded 9 strikes outs in his 5 inning win against Sauk Rapids in game 1 on Tuesday evening at Knute Nelson. Carter limited to Storm to only 3 hits and walked 0 batters. Defensively we played well behind Carter supporting his effort on the mound. 7 hits were recorded by the Cardinals with Blake Anderson leading the way with 3 hits, of which 2 were doubles. He recorded 2 more rbi's and also plated 2 runs himself. Connor Busse, Brock Anderson, Jake Drew, and Braiden Reisdorf were the other hitters to add to the column.
3 Alexandria 18 Sauk Rapids 8 Offensively we were able to record 17 hits in the night cap leading to an 18-8 victory to wrap up the double header. Connor Busse and Jake Drew eachrecorded 3 hits with Busse also able to racking up 5 rbi's. Blake Anderson followed behind with 2 hits himself giving him 5 total on the night. Many other hitters added to the column as we were able to put the ball all over the park last night. Blake Anderson picked up the pitching win going 3 innings giving up 6 earned runs on 7 hits. He walked just 1 batter and struck out 2. Calvin Waage worked an inning giving up 1 earned run on 1 hit and a walk. Jason Tikkanen pitched the final 3 frames giving up 1 earned run on 4 hits. Jason struck out 1 and walked 3. We head to Fergus Falls Thursday night for a key section match up heading into the end of the year. We end the week traveling to Willmar to face the Cardinals. BASEBALL JV Alex 5 Sauk Rapids-Rice 0 Alex 7 Sauk Rapids-Rice 6 Game one Alexandria cruised to a shutout victory behind the 3 hit pitching of Luke LeVassuer. Errorless ball & timely hitting was the formula. A complete team effort as everyone played a part in the W. Luke s sac bunt set up 2 runs & an Isaac Sanow s squeeze bunt to perfection capped off the victory. A rock solid performance by the Jr. Cards Game 2 saw the Cards jump out to a 2 run lead & then held a 2 run lead 4-2, before an inning of kicking the ball around where they came up w/4 runs to take a 6-4 lead into the 7 th. A huge over the head of the rightfielder ringing double by Ben Doherty lead to a 3 run 7 th to take the lead 7-6 where Adam Hoeper closed out the victory w/the tie-ing run 2 nd base Wyatt Blahosky had done his job over 5 & 2/3 innings of solid pitching giving up only 1 earned run during the outing & reaching the max 85 pitches. Jario Lopez had a clutch 2 out RBI single in game 2. Good W s guys! Cards are now BASEBALL 9 TH Game 1 Alex 5 Sauk Rapids 0 Game 2 Sauk Rapids 5 Alex 4 Alexandria's 9th grade baseball team traveled to Sauk Rapids Tuesday and split a twin bill with the Storm, winning 5-0 and losing 5-4. In the opener the Cardinals once again got outstanding pitching from multiple arms to record their 5th shutout of the season. Playing without their ace Matthew Carlsen, who sprained his ankle in practice Monday, Dominic Schmidt started and got his team off the field defensively quickly with two low pitch count shutout innings. Drew Revering, Josh Ballou and Blake Hoelscher followed suit with shut out innings of their own. Totally the staff gave up 4 hits, 3 walks and struck out 6 Storm hitters. Hoelscher led the offense with two clutch hits, scoring twice and driving in another. Tate Breitkreutz and Matthew Zick collected the other Cardinal hits. In game two the host team rallied from a 4-1 deficit and defeated the Cards 5-4 in walk off fashion. With the game tied 4-4 in the bottom of the last inning, the Storm used a 1 out walk, an Alex error and a coverage mental error at second base on a potential double play ball to send Alex home with a split. Riley Simonson, making his first pitching appearance of the season, was the tough luck loser on the hill for the Cards. Mark Urman started on the mound for Alex and gave way to Eriq Velaquez, who was followed by Simonson. The Cardinals only managed to get three hits in the contest with Urman, Cody Richardson and Isaac Siegel getting one apiece. The Freshmen team is back in action again tomorrow (Thursday) hosting the Otters from Fergus Falls at AAHS Field with the first pitch scheduled for 4:30. SOFTBALL VARSITY Alexandria 2 Sauk Rapids 6 Alexandria 4 Sauk Rapids 7
4 Alexandria traveled to Sauk Rapids last night in a CLC double header. Sauk Rapids played better in the field and offensively than the Cardinals last night. They especially got a great pitching performance from their pitcher Sam Patton in both games. In game one Alexandria collected hits from Emma Ziegler, Ellie Ronning (2), Kendra Hardy, and Taylor Breitkreutz. Sophomore Kendra hardy got the start and took the loss for the Cardinals. In Game two, Alexandria out hit the Storm but could not collect the big hit with runners on. Emma Ziegler, Ellie Ronning (2), Calley Richardson (2), McKenzie Revering, Kendra Hardy (2), Taylor Breitkreutz, Jamie Lanoue, and Jazmin Steidl all collected hits.. Freshman Ally Albers got the start and took the loss for the Cardinals. Alexandria will host the Willmar Cardinals Friday night in Alexandria and will be celebrating Senior Night. SOFTBALL JV Alexandria 11 - Sauk Rapids-Rice 0 Alexandria 15 - Sauk Rapids-Rice 5 The Alexandria JV fastpitch team traveled to Sauk Rapids for a Double header on Tuesday night. Carly Burns took to the mound and pitched a shutout while Taylor Wagner was her batterymate. Burns scattered 3 hits, striking out 1, and walking a season low 1 batter. Great defense played behind her as the young Cards had their best game of the season by not committing any errors. Autumn Botz and Georgia Lussenhop were kept busy at shortstop and 3 rd base respectively. Singles Botz, Taylor Sayre (2),Paige Honkomp, and Nikki Botzet Doubles, Botz, and Courtney Gould Burns took to the mound once again to pick up her second win off the night giving up 6 hits, striking out 3, and walking 2. Sidney Drew and Kyli Merzewski shared the duties behind the plate. The girls took advantage of 10 walks and 3 HBP to score 15 runs. The Cards broke the game open early scoring 10 runs in the first inning. Singles Autumn Botz, Jackie Niska, Courtney Gould, Tasha Hacker (2), Sidney Ellis Doubles Paige Honkomp, and Taylor Sayre Next up for the Cardinals is their final game of the year against Willmar at AAHS on Friday.
