Julia Iverson-Allison Bruhn,WILLMAR 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (5) The Cardinal girls tennis team suffered a heart breaking loss at Willmar yesterday afternoon and into the evening. It was one of those matches that leaves a hole in your stomach. It was very windy and cool down in Willmar and some of the girls had to play till dark before the match was decided. Willmar took an early lead by winning at 1st, 3rd, and 4th singles all in straight sets with not one of our girls winning more than 3 games in any set. Our doubles teams got us on the board by winning at 1st, and 2nd in straight sets. Our third doubles team of Taylor & Whitly came back from a set down to force a third set. The set would go back and forth and our girls would take a 5-3 lead only to watch the Willmar duo win the next three games. We would fight back and force a breaker where we would win 7-5 and the match would be knotted up at 3-3 with Laura still playing at second singles. Laura lost the first set 4-6, came back from a 1-4 deficit in the second set and won 6-4 and forced a third and deciding set. With the set knotted at 4-4 and daylight running low Laura was a point away from going up 5-4 and would serve for the match, but it wasn't meant to be as she lost the two remaining games. The girls fought hard and it was a tough loss, but we have nothing to hang our heads about. Willmar wanted this win just as badly as we did and they earned it. We fall to 12-6 overall, and 5-3 in the CLC. TENNIS JV Alexandria 3 Willmar 4 1st Singles Megan VanGaal (W) 6-1,0-6,6-0 2nd Singles Kenna Aure (L) 7-5,6-7,10-6 1st Doubles Autumn Botz & Elle Murphy (W) 6-4,6-2 2nd Doubles Grace Reed & Jaycee Spaulding (L) 3-6,6-4,10-8

2 3rd Doubles Anna Doherty & Jaya Hatlestad (L) 7-6,7-7, th Doubles Kelly Minnerath & Cameo Newman (W) 8-5 5th Singles Ashley Andres & Trista Craig (L) 8-2 BOYS SOCCER VARSITY Alexandria 5 Sauk Rapids Rice 1 A cold night filled with winds and rain made for a memorable close for home matches this season. The Cardinals hosted Sauk Rapids-Rice Storm last evening. The Cards were looking forward to this match up since they fell to the Storm at the beginning of the season. To say the level of play was high, would be an understatement. The Cardinals continued to dominate possession and movement throughout the entire match. This excellent play was a frustrating matter for the Storm who previously found their first season victory against the Cardinals earlier this year. The Cardinals came screaming out of the gates with Graham Peterson scoring in the 3rd minute of play, assisted by JJ Foster. JJ Foster then started his hat-trick evening scoring in the 15th, 19th, and 44th minutes of play. Assist of these goals going to Holden Hanson and two to Joshua Kietzmann. Sauk Rapids only goal came in the 44th minute off a penally kick. The final goal came from Jayce Warrey who found his first Varisty goal in the 53rd minute of play, with the assist coming from JJ Foster. This was a great win for the Cardinals and truly boosted the team s spirit moving into the depths of the season. A fantastic match to highlight our senior players with a win at home! The Cardinal Boys Soccer Team is currently 4-10 on the season. The Cardinals will travel to Willmar on Tuesday with a kick off at 5pm. GIRLS SOCCER VARSITY Alex 3 Sauk Rapids 2 (OT) The girls got back on the winning track with an OT win vs Sauk Rapids. Sauk Rapids capitalized on a slow Alex start, which has become all too common. SR finished a corner kick for the only goal of the half, 3 ½ minutes into the game. Alex looked like a different team the second half, going long periods of bottling SR up in their defensive end. Defender Hallee Anderson scored her first varsity goal three minutes into the second half when an Alex corner kick was knocked down but not cleared and the Anderson blast from 30 yds was too much for the SR GK to handle. Seven minutes later, Kaye Paschka beat the SR defenders and ripped a high shot from a very sharp angle that caught the inside of the far post and in for the 2-1 lead. With 6 seconds remaining in the game, a shanked ball from the SR midfield spun and took a strange bounce that the Alex D was not prepared for, and bounced to a running SR attacker who tied it with seconds left. 2 ½ minutes into OT an Ann Zwilling corner kick found Camille Hegstad in the box. Camille s first crack at it hit the crossbar and bounced down. In a scrum for the ball, Camille buried her second attempt. Sophia Vine was solid throughout the game and took control of her penalty area to hold off the SR attack. CROSS COUNTRY Fergus Falls 2018 John Hermes Invitational 60 th Annual The weather was in the high 50 s with a crisp cool wind. A bit windy for the runners and a bit more windy and a bit cold for the spectators at the Pebble Lake Golf course. The Fergus course is not one of the fastest courses of the season with its many turns and hills. This is a great spectator course with many fans that came to watch. Alexandria had runners from 4th -12th grade running in Fergus Falls. So fun to watch all the excitement on the course. Great Day for Alexandria Cross Country. We had many comments after the races on the sportsmanship of our Alexandria teams and how our teams have a sense of pride! BOYS CROSS COUNTRY Our boys varsity and junior varsity raced well and were pleased with the focus and effort of our Senior runners, but also the determination of some of our Junior boys. It was the intelligent races, comments on sportsmanship, cooling down together and our team building a culture of doing the little things right that were noticed today. Our varsity was led by Noah Struck and the team ended up 4th and our JV 2nd with great team performances. The varsity boys top 5 only had a 45 second gap between them, It was fun watching the Varsity Boys build throughout the race. Jacob Kleven and Jack Englund ran strong and had one of their better races of the season, Jack was 16 seconds faster than his season best. Dane Galloway has also shown great effort and

3 ran a good time on this tough course. Great performances on both the Varsity and JV teams. We had 4 guys under 18:00, and 10 guys having Season Bests. The girls had 9 season bests and are learning lots about racing and are gaining confidence! With a huge week of practice it was great to see progress towards our goals. It was great to have these girls giving it their all. Aleah Miller had a 22 second season best along with Julia Brito having a 71 sec season best.
