Broderick Nelson & JJ Foster (A) 6-4, 7-5 #3 doubles: Thomas Connolly & Eddie Hamilton (S) def. Grant Storm & Wade Smith (A) 6-2, 7-5 The Cardinal boys tennis team lost a hard fought match to Sartell last night 2-5. Our two wins came from Devin Crowe at first singles, and Devlin Van Gaal at third singles. Devin dominated his opponent surrendering just two games. Devin was under control and never let his opponent get on track in the match. Devlin had to come back from a first set loss to claim the next two sets for his win. Devlin got his opponent off balance time and time again and then put shots away in good order. Matt Vogel lost a tough match at fourth singles in three long sets as they were the last ones off the courts. We had two close matches in the doubles lineup with Broderick & JJ at second doubles where they held leads in both sets, but were unable to win either.

2 Grant & Wade led the entire second set and looked to close it out with a 5-4 lead but were also unable to get over the hump. I felt the guys gave a really good effort and just a break here or there and we could have easily won this match. No rest for the guys as we host Fergus Falls Friday and a home quad Saturday. They upped their season record to 8-2 & for this team it is not as much the W s & L s as much as how they are jelling as teammates. The winning pitcher Jason Tikkanen, he allowed only 2 earned runs over 5 innings w/brady Burgau finishing up the last 2 innings. Our flawless defensive perilous hit a couple road bumps last night The 18 hit parade lead to a 20-6 Cardinal (Alex) win. BASEBALL 9 TH GRADE Game 1 Alexandria 3 and Willmar 2 Game 2 Alexandria 7 and Willlmar 0 Taylor Jendro had a solid performance tonight as he allowed only 4 hits in 5 innings, walked just two and struck out 3. The difference in the game is the defense behind Taylor was perfect as they had zero errors as Willmar committed 3 costly miscues. In game 2 Caden Scheunert not only pitched well but also played very athletic defense to support his own cause by fielding ground balls and covering first base on multiple occasions. Other outstanding plays were made by Connor Hittle and Nolan Rusland to help secure the shutout win. Our next game is home this Saturday against Becker at 12:30 GIRLS GOLF VARSITY The Varsity Girls Golf Team traveled to Fergus Falls to play in the 5th CLC meet of the season. The meet was held at Pebble Lake Golf Club in very favorable weather conditions. It is amazing what a difference a week in Minnesota weather can bring. We were concerned about frost bite last week, and sun burn and dehydration this week! The Cardinals brought their "A" game to the golf course, as they shot a very fine team score of 325. This was 17 shots better than their previous low of the season, which came on Tuesday. Our team score was 29 shots better than runner-up St. Cloud Tech. Bridget Amundson continued her good conference play with a career best even par round of 72. Macyn Hagen, Elise Stockmoe, Onna O'Connor, and Alli Prestby all had season best rounds. We had 3 players finish in the top 4 places individually. We also accomplished another short term season goal by having 4 players shoot under 90. Team Scores: Alexandria 325, Tech 354, Sartell 360, Willmar 364, Brainerd 372, Fergus Falls 384, Rocori 393, Apollo 397, and Sauk Rapids - Rice 411. Standings with 3 meets to play: Alexandria 45, Sartell 37, Tech 33, Brainerd 31, Willmar 28, Rocori 13, Apollo 13, and Sauk Rapids - Rice 7. Alexandria Individuals: Bridget Amundson = 72 (1st) Elise Stockmoe = 81 (T 2nd) Lauren Stockmoe = 84 (4th) Macyn Hagen = 88 (T 10th)

4 Onna O'Connor = 90 Alli Prestby = 95 The Cardinals after a short rest, will hit the course at 9:00 am on Friday for the Pre_Section Meet. GIRLS GOLF JV Girls JV Golf at Rocori CLC Invite 5/5/16 River Oaks G.C., Back-9, Par-35 Temp 80, Sunny, Light winds Team scores: 1) Alexandria-198 2) Tech ) Ferg-226 4) Sart-228 5) Will-232 6) Brnd-237 7) Roco-263 It was another glorious day for a stroll down the fairways yesterday, as the Alexandria Girls JV Golf Team won their fourth straight conference invitational title, this time at the River Oaks G.C. in Cold Spring. The Cards enjoyed the warm sunny weather so much that they collectively tallied a season best low team score of 198. Breaking the 200 mark has "not been done in a while", so the Lady Linksters can be very proud of their performance. The team won by a commanding nineteen strokes over runners-up Tech, as all six scoring place finishers fired rounds that were under sixty strokes. Of our eight participating players, there were six season bests. Anna Jenson, the meet medalist, knocked off five strokes from her previous low, blistered the track with a season best 44, and in so doing, notched a birdie on the par three eleventh. Runner-up medalist Ciara O'Connor, also carded a season best total, this time firing a 47, which included three pars out of the nine holes. Sheridan Allen-Opp parred two holes, was seven better, and tallied a 53, Katlyn Ryberg, sliced off five and came in with a 55, Olivia Mikkelson carved out five less shots for a 59, and Hadley Mikkelson was six better with a 65. Rounding out our field was Brynne Pass who continues with consistent scores in the 50's, this time totaled a 56, and Cayla Bitzan, who is on the cusp of finding her desired form, shot a 61. The win continues to distance Alexandria from the rest of the CLC Girls JV contingent in the overall standings, as well. Here are the point totals as of the first five of eight meets: 1) Alex-44 2) Sart-36 Brnd ) Tech-28 5) Will-25 6) Roco ) Ferg-19 The Cards JV are back in action at the invite at Geneva G.C. on Saturday and in Fergus Falls on Monday. SOFTBALL VARSITY Alexandria 7 vs Willmar 4 Alexandria hosted Willmar who came into the game with only one loss on the year in a CLC matchup Thursday night. Alexandria came away with the win in dramatic fashion in the bottom of the 7 th. With the score tied at 4-4 Calley Richardson stepped the plate with two runners on and hit the first pitch offered over the left field fence for the walk off homerun. The Cardinals got another strong pitching performance from starter Caley Haugen who went six strong innings and was relieved by Emma Ziegler who got the win in relief. Elllie Ronning also hit her third homerun the year R H E WLMR ALX Pitching W: Emma Ziegler IP H R ER K BB Caley Haugen Emma Ziegler

It was the Willmar Cardinals that came out on top this time. On the mound for the young Cards with her first start of the year was Sydney Christensen going the first 3 1/3 innings scattering 6 runs on 3 hits, with 2 k s and 8 BB. McKenna Ellingson came in relief in the 4 th to scatter 5 runs on 3 hits, striking out 3, and walking 7 Card batters. The Alex. Cards outhit Willmar 11 to 6. Leading the hitting was Lyndsey Knoll with a single, double, and triple knocking in 6 runs. Kelsey Haugen continues to swing a hot bat with a single and a double. Taylor Breitkreutz, and Ellingson had doubles also. We had multiple opportunities to put this one away as a win, but it wasn t meant to be. Some very nice plays were made in the field in this game. Next up is our home tournament tomorrow playing Little Falls at 10 AM, and finishing up with Eden Valley Watkins at 2:00. SOFTBALL 9 TH GRADE Alex 16-2 Willmar 6-14 Our Cardinals split with the Cardinals from down south on Thursday night in a two game home contest. Although the Cardinals are hurting with some injuries, again, we were able to see an improved performance after the first inning. In game one, Alexandria s Georgia Lussenhhop pick up her third win of the season on the mound. Kylee Merewski came in and picked up the save. The Red Bird Bombers lived to the name when Kennedy Quinn crushed a grand slam to left field in the bottom of the third inning. Until that point in the game, Willmar held a one run lead at the top of each inning; however, we would not look back and capitalized on the momentum. Nikki Botzet had her first triple of the season to bring in two runs. Calista Bergquist had the other extra base hit on the day. We will continue to improve with reading and reacting to situations before the play is in action. Our bats and communication need to stay on track for the conference tourney and good things will happen. Game two saw Kylee Merewski made her first start of the season. She split the two inning game with Nikki Botzet for mound duty. Sydney Ellis and Rachel Schroeder were two players to connect for basehits in game two and help bring in the scarce runs we allocated for game two. A tough lesson in ball, is that when you give extra outs you will pay. And pay we did despite some good pitching. Alex hosts their annual tourney this weekend to take on Little Falls and Osakis, Go Cards!
