2 JIM GANTT Head Coach Jim Gantt enters his thirteenth season as head coach of the Catawba College baseball program. Under Gantt, Catawba has posted ten 30+ win seasons and an overall mark of Gantt was honored as South Atlantic Conference Coach of the Year for the fourth time in Last season, the Indians earned a SAC Championship and advanced to the NCAA II South Region Championship game, posting a mark. He was named the 2006 SAC Coach of the Year after the Tribe went Catawba won both the SAC regular season and tournament titles and advanced to the NCAA II South Region Champion- ship game.the Indians were ranked as high as #2 in the nation. Gantt also earned SAC Coach of the Year honors in 2004 after guiding the Indians to a then school record 42 wins, including its first-ever berth in the NCAA II Regionals. In 2005, Catawba won the SAC title and went The 1997 squad, his first as head coach, equaled a then second most win total with 32. Gantt also led the Indians to the 2002 SAC Tournament title and was named SAC Coach of the Year for the first time in As an assistant for seven seasons, Gantt was a key part of Catawba s five straight seasons with at least 27 wins from ). The Indians won back-to-back South Atlantic Conference championships in and was a perfect 21-0 in league games in 1992 (38-7 overall). He has also served for the past two seasons as the coach of Rowan County s successful American Legion team. Gantt was named the North Carolina Amateur Coach of the Year in 2002 after guiding Rowan to a 43-2 record and a state championship. As an assistant, he helped the legion team to the 1996 Southeast Regional Championship, advancing to the World Series in Roseburg, Oregon. Gantt, who graduated from Catawba in May 1989, with a bachelor s degree in sports management, had an outstanding four-year career as a player for the Indians. He compiled a.297 career batting average. A third baseman, Gantt enjoyed his best season in 1988, as the Indians went 27-8 and won the Carolinas Conference championship. He was named to the allconference team after hitting.322, with a.482 onbase percentage. Always a good contact hitter, Gantt struck out only 28 times in 330 career at-bats,while walking 47 times. He started 97 of 105 games, compiling 98 hits and 42 RBI. An all-conference player at Newton-Conover (N.C.) High School before graduating in 1984, Gantt was a.439 career hitter for the Red Devils. Gantt resides in Salisbury with his wife, Adrian. Adrian is the Catawba head field hockey coach.

3 ASSISTANT COACHES PETE KULD Assistant Coach Pete Kuld is in his third year as an assistant with the Catawba College baseball program. In 1987,he was drafted in the 13th round by the Cleveland Indians. Kuld was drafted out of Pepperdine as a catcher and spent 11 seasons in professional baseball. He finished playing in the Northern League, where he was a two-time home run champion. Kuld set a league record with 77 career home runs with Thunder Bay. STEVEN SAWYER Assistant Coach Steven Sawyer enters his second season as an assistant coach with the Catawba baseball program. He serves as the Tribe s outfield and base running coach as well as assisting with the hitters. He is also head coach for the developmental team. In addition to his duties on the field, Sawyer is the recruiting coordinator and camp director. Sawyer came to Catawba from Key West, Florida, where he served as a Key West High School assistant varsity coach since 2003 as well as the head JV coach since He helped his alma mater to a Florida state record 11th State Championship in Sawyer was also an outfielder on State Championship teams in 1995 and 1996 for Key West while they were ranked as high as #1 in the country. Sawyer is a 1999 graduate of the University of Tampa where he earned a degree in accounting. He began his coaching career at Wharton High School in Tampa, Florida, immediately after his playing career ended at UT. As an assistant at Wharton,he helped lead them to a state playoff appearance in only their second season of existence. Sawyer resides in Salisbury. MICHAEL LOWMAN Assistant Coach Michael Lowman will be in his fourth year as an assistant for the Catawba baseball team, returning after a stint as an assistant at High Point. Lowman previously served as an assistant with the Tribe from Lowman graduated from High Point in 2002 with a degree in sports management and received a Master of Science degree in sports studies from High Point in He served as a graduate assistant for two seasons with the Panthers while pursuing his masters. A four-year starter at High Point,Lowman earned first team All-Big South honors at second base in He was a two-time all-conference performer at East Rowan High School and helped Rowan County to the 1996 American Legion World Series. In 1998, Lowman was named the Area III Player of the Year after hitting.392 with 12 home runs and 70 RBI. He resides in Salisbury with his wife, Kelly. 1

11 NEWMAN PARK Newman Park has been home to the Catawba College Indians since 1926, with the grandstand being erected in The picturesque ballpark, which seats approximately 2,500 fans, is the third oldest in the state of North Carolina that is still in operation. In 2001, Catawba led NCAA II in attendance with an average of 435 fans per home date. Catawba has posted a record at home, a winning percentage of 66.7%. Recent improvements at the park, include the new press box and concession stand that was erected in That summer, the ballpark was the site of the American Legion Southeast Regional. After the 2001 season, a new covered batting cage was constructed and the slope along the right field foul area was removed and a wall was erected. Prior to the start of the 2003 season, the slope along the left field was removed. In 2004, a new 18-foot outfield wall was erected. Newman Park has been the host for the South Atlantic Conference Tournament on seven occasions. Rowan County s successful American Legion program also plays its home games at Newman Park, hosting the 2002 North Carolina State Tournament. 9
