Fullerton needs just one victory in the threegame series to earn a share of the Big West title, which happened in Two Titans victories would clinch the title outright for Fullerton. If the Dirtbags sweep the series, they would earn the conference championship outright for their first Big West title since 2008 and first solo title since Two wins for the Dirtbags would also secure Long Beach State the conference s automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament since they would own the tiebreaker over the Titans by winning the head-to-head conference series. POLL POSITION: The Titans are ranked No. 23 in this week s Baseball America top-25 poll and No. 25 in D1Baseball.com s poll. Fullerton is ranked No. 20 in Collegiate Baseball s top-30 rankings while coming in at No. 25 in the USA Today Coaches Poll. The Titans are receiving votes in the NCBWA poll. RPI WATCH: The Titans checked in at No. 53 in Wednesday s NCAA RPI ratings after dropping a 2-1 decision to USC on Tuesday night and losing three of their last five contests.. It was the 13th time the teams had met in a non-conference three-game set during the season and just the fourth time Fullerton dropped it to Long Beach State. The Titans lost the series in consecutive seasons in and also dropped the series last season. In conference play, the Titans swept the series against Long Beach State last season after dropping two of three to the Dirtbags at Blair Field in FEELING PRESIDENTIAL: For the fourth straight presidential election year, the Titans and Dirtbags will square off in the final weekend of the season at Blair Field with the conference title on the line. The hits have not stopped for Pavletich as he is in the midst of a 13-game hitting streak, having appeared in 14 games for the Titans this season including 11 straight starts at third base. The only game where he didn t register a hit came on April 22 against UNLV when he entered solely as a defensive substitution at first base and he did not register an at-bat. Pavletich is currently batting.386 (17-for-44) and has seven RBIs in 14 games, 11 of them starts. He has three multi-hit games including his first career three-hit game on May 14 at UC Santa Barbara, where he recorded his first multi-rbi game by driving in two in the Titans lopsided 18-2 win against the Gauchos. HOLDING DOWN THE FORT: Freshman Hank LoForte has started to find his stride for the Titans lately, particularly in conference play. LoForte has played in 32 games this season, making 23 starts overall. He has hits in 10 of the last 13 games he has played including three multi-hit games. Fullerton is also ranked first in the nation with a 1.04 WHIP, third in strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.44) and seventh in walks allowed per nine innings (2.50). YOU DON T SCORE UNTIL YOU SCORE: This season, the Titans are just 3-13 when scoring two runs or less in a game. However, the Titans have lost nine times when holding opponents to score two runs or less including Tuesday s 2-1 loss to USC at Goodwin Field. GOING, GOING, GONE: The Titans have blasted 25 home runs in 53 games this season after belting 20 in 64 games all of last year. They hit three home runs on May 8 against UC Riverside, marking the first time the Titans hit three in a game since Overall, Timmy Richards leads the way this season with nine homers. Dalton Blaser has four homers while Chris Hudgins has gone yard three times along with freshman Ruben Cardenas. Josh Vargas has belted a pair of homers along with Tanner Pinkston. Niko Pacheco and Jerrod Bravo each have one. Of the 25 homers, 19 have been hit at Goodwin Field. The Titans are 16-4 this year when hitting at least one home run in a game and are 10-7 when the opponent hits at least one homer. THOSE WHO FALL BEHIND, GET LEFT BEHIND: The Titans have been nearly unbeatable when holding a lead late in a game. Fullerton is 29-1 when leading after six innings, 30-2 when ahead after seven innings and 31-1 when leading after eight innings. PLAYING ALL THE HITS: Fullerton has out-hit its opponent on 32 occasions this season and holds a 30-2 record when that happens.
