Sometimes we get accustomed to these same people and forget how much time and effort they give to our S.J. Retreads organization. Sam Beloff - Ride Leader, Asst. State Representative, Communication Officer and a great sounding board. Jim Doc Dougherty - Membership Coordinator, Updates all Access forms. Andi Wells - Restarted the Sunshine Club duties and puts up with my crap! Ride Leaders - Paul Giunta - also plans our Friday lunch rides. - Stan Ware - Mike Black - Jeff DiStefano - Bob Curley Pearson - Jim Norcross - Ray Gangluff - Master Tail Gunner There are a handful of other ride leaders who put together several great ride destinations, Joe Curley, Tom Murray and new tail gunner Greg Gilbert. Remember, these people not only make our club go, they make our club grow. So, next time you see them, please let them know you appreciate their work. We have a new section in the newsletter called: Motorcycle Tips, Trips, and Trivia. We invite our members to write in any motorcycle related article. Articles can be submitted to njretreads@aol.com Upcoming Events Our Ice Cream Ride-ins continue on into the end of the summer. This will be our final scheduled ice cream runs for the 2017 season. However, our weekly group rides seem to find the time to stop for ice cream.. a lot. Sept. 5 - Cream Valley Sept Purple Penguin Remember we gather at 6:30pm to kick the tires. We had good attendance this year. Next year we may look at pizza and ice cream S.J. 8 Side Roads Motorcycle Tips Trips and Trivia Thanks. Sam Beloff As many of you know, I had surgery to remove a cancerous growth from my nose last year. As a result, I have been religious about applying sunscreen to my exposed skin when I ride and have encouraged others to do so as well. This article isn t to preach about skin care but to discuss one of the side effects that we all experience when sunscreen and sweat combine to leave those awful black rings on our clothes. This is especially problematic with HiViz shirts and jackets. No matter how many time you wash them, the rings persist. In discussing this problem with a friend, Jane Hasson, she explained that her mom would take it as a personal challenge to remove stains from their clothes and Jane is equally driven. So, when she gave me her recommendations, I went out and bought the products she recommended. If you are not using OxyClean, you don t know what you re missing. Her first recommendation is to get the stick/gel version of the product and apply it liberally to all the affected areas The longer you let this stuff work, the better the results. After application, fold the shirt up and leave it alone for 5 days. This is the hardest part of the instructions. After all, we expect everything we do to have an immediate cause and effect and waiting isn t in our DNA. After you ve waited what you feel is the appropriate length of time, throw the pieces in the washer with like clothing and wash as normal. If you don t get the desired effect, repeat the process then use OxyClean powder in the wash. If you have a particularly dirty piece(s), take a bucket and dissolve a scoop of the powder with warm water and then immerse the clothes in the bucket and leave them alone for several days. There are no guarantees but I assure you that the clothes will come out much cleaner and brighter than if you just washed them without the prep. Editor s Note: Believe or not, this subject has come up for as long as I been riding motorcycles. Thanks for addressing the problem and having a solution (literally).
