1 First State Mini Club Newsletter---February 2017 January 2017 MEETING DATE is Thursday February 16, at 7 PM at the New Castle Senior Center, 400 South Street, New Castle DE President s Message Where did January go? Now that we re already into February, we hope that your club project is coming along well. Or perhaps if you re like Wanda you ve had some roadblocks in creating what you envision and so ditched a couple of ideas and are working on another for the corner room/entry. She finds if she s stuck on how to make something from scratch or which materials or tools to use, she just walks away for a while and returns with new energy and approaches. Does that work for you? And because she couldn t decide on which of FSMC s two projects to do, she s committed to both as are several other members. And once she gets her Christmas tree taken down (yes, it s still up), there will be a whole lot of mini-ing going on at her house! Meanwhile, Connie is doing very well rehabbing her knee replacement and has a wonderful caregiverneighbor to help with whatever she needs. That kind of friendship is hard to find. Wanda is encouraging her to do the club project, but, understandably, Connie s focus is elsewhere right now. Now, we re hoping that we ll be able to have our club meetings, the show classes, and show without snow interfering. And speaking of classes, if you would like to take one, do know that people from our multi-state area are signing up and space is limited in each. Registrations are being taken in the order in which they re received. Thanks to all who attended, all the show post cards were labeled and stamped at January s club meeting, and we got a head start on tote bag favors for this summer s NAME convention. The club s gift of mini mugs is providing opportunities for many of us to learn some new skills making tea/coffee from resin, and perhaps applying decals. And plans for our 40 th anniversary celebration are moving, slowly, but moving along. More about that exciting time next month. Co-presidents Connie Gorman and Wanda Simons Hospitality for the rest of the year: Connie Gorman, chair February Grace Hayford, George Hoffman, Lucile Hoffman, Katheryn Mayberry March Mary Ellen Raun, Leslie Shaffner, Kitch Sproat, Connie Gorman April Lois Weyer, Rose Gambacorta, Diane Scheuer, Joan Hoyt May all bring, sign up with Connie FACEBOOK Please send me pictures of our mini world to put on Facebook. 4 Anyone planning to go to THIS SUMMER S NATIONAL CONVENTION Come to the Circus in Alexandria, VA needs to get their reservation form in the mail POSTMARKED BEFORE JANUARY 27. As of February 7, by webinar with the committee, the convention is half full, partly due to costs of Washington and partly the political protesting problems. But, Alexandria is not Washington and a variety of things are being planned. So, you still have time to enter. It should be loads of fun with both 1 and ¼ possibilities for souvenirs, favors and classes. The convention classes are now on the NAME website. Start saving for your registration to go to the first houseparty (small convention) since 2011 in our M-1 region of Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is the theme with many, mini possibilities for Halloween and the well-known tale of the headless horseman and other scary stories. Registration for this September small-scale event (½, ¼, 1/144 th inch scales and smaller ) in Scranton, PA, will open this spring. Wanda is chairing the exhibit room and will hope to see our FSMC small scale people in attendance and/or exhibiting. We have more tiny components donated so we will do them again next year please collect any 1-2 items like tiny trees, cars, animals, sleds, fireplaces, save even broken items since we can hide things behind packages, etc. It was really wonderful how happily the Hospice workers greeted our trees and globes.
