1 First State Mini Club Newsletter---March 2017 March 2017 MEETING DATE is Thursday March 16, at 7 PM at the New Castle Senior Center, 400 South Street, New Castle DE Presidents Message March is always a changeable month of contrasts for many reasons the weather, our clothes, our interest in getting outdoors to do chores, and staying in to finish club projects for our show! We hope you all are moving along on the latter, especially, and are aware of a number of dates. First, March 21 is the deadline for getting information about your exhibits to Marnie King (2017 club project, historical pieces [see elsewhere] and minis you ve made lately). Space needs to be allocated and signage made, so please respect her deadline. Second, EVERYONE should sign up to work several hours at our March 26 show. Some members have been working for months (all year) behind the scenes, while others of us are only able to do a few hours on the day of...yes, there are some sitting-down jobs for those who need them. To make the show a success, we need and value everyone s help. Also, dues for will be collected at the April and May club meetings with a May 25 deadline. Please contact Angie Phillips if you have questions. There will be a renewal form in the next newsletters. Our group project needs to be mentioned. The Clown Bedroom will be donated to NAME as a raffle item that earns funds for our national organization (officially called, a houseparty helper from back in the days when our current convention was called a houseparty ). We thank Bonnie Kinkaid and Susan Ross for heading up that project where a number of members have made charming furniture and accessories for the room, and we still need a few more toys to finish it up. NAME asks us to submit a form with photo of the project no later than May 1, so our April meeting will be the last opportunity to add items, but it would be nice to see it on display nearly finished, if not completely, at our show this month. So, bring items that might be used to the March club meeting. AND FINALLY, be sure to have Saturday, April 29, 10 a.m. 3:00 p.m., on your calendar for our 40th anniversary bash. We hope that most, if not all, members will be able to come, at no cost to you, to Winterthur Museum for special educational tours of its miniatures and gardens, the new dollhouse, treats, memories, and lunch. There may be a few places available at the last minute for guests, so we ll keep a list. Winterthur is wheel-chair accessible and has several available if we reserve them in advance. (And if you will have a guest/non-member as your pusher, please be prepared to pay for their lunch and tour.) If you are unable to come for the morning program, perhaps you can join us for lunch or for the specially- arranged tour of miniatures in the afternoon. See elsewhere in the newsletter for the tentative schedule. So, it s a busy, exciting time for FSMC and you. We almost need a special calendar to keep track of it all! 3 NATIONAL CONVENTION 2017 Come to the Circus in Alexandria, VA -- get your reservation form in the mail! The convention is partly full, partly due to costs of Washington and partly the political protesting problems in DC. FSMC Annual Project for Bring prototypes, pictures of ideas for club to consider and vote. 1. We have frames 3 x4 with inside of frame measuring 2 x3. We could do the small room 1/144 scale in the wall of a 1 scale box. Small scalers could do just the frame. The idea is from Brooke Tucker. See Miniature Collector, Jan/Feb The inside box is ¾ deep, cut from mat board. Inside could be closer to the frame s inside border by using foam core.
