V.S.D.A. President's Report Hi all. Well the State Convention and A.G.M. is now days away and the convention sub -committee have everything in place for what will be a fun filled weekend of dancing and getting together with fellow friends. I am hearing that there is no dress set parade being held in Horsham - this is not true, there is one taking place. If you still like to be added to the parade just give the convenor a call A.S.A.P. Beginner's classes have or are about to start and we wish all clubs do well in gaining new dancers to continue on what we love so much. I would like to say a very big thank you to Betty McClean who has stood down as our friendship officer. She did an outstanding job over a period of 10 years making sure if any of you needed a card for any reason they got to you. No matter what part of Australia she was in she had all her cards with her just in case - thanks again Betty. I will not be nominating for the position of President at this year's A.G.M. but will continue on the general committee to assist the new executive should they need guidance going forward. It was a hard choice to make, as i feel I have completed only a couple of the goals I set myself when I first took on the role as president. As this is my last report as President, I would like to thank all those who have either supported or helped me out during my time as president and still believe and always will that if we all get together we can make Square Dancing bigger and better. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as your president I have met some wonderful people along the way. Please, when driving to the state convention, take care. See you all then. Mark Kelly President V.S.D.A. Do you know a member who could be cheered up or encouraged by receiving an appropriate card? If so, please contact the V.S.D.A. 4 Victorian Callers Association Many of our members are looking forward to providing an entertaining programnle at the State Convention. We are looking forward to our Skills sessions this year. Round Dance Association of Victoria This month has been extremely busy with meetings and our first social dance for the year. On Saturday 10 th February the RDAV held a "Valentine's Day" social dance. This was very well attended and enjoyed by all. Thank you to everybody who attended and that you all dressed in something red to add to the concept. There certainly was a lot of "love in the air" and plenty of food as per usual. Our 2nd social dance will be in May so keep an eye out for details of "Colours of Autumn" in Surrey Hills. All levels and many rhythms of rounds as usual to enjoy. Horsham State Convention is nearly here. We look forward to catching up with many of our round dance friends over the long weekend. For more information on round dancing please contact RDAV Secretary Robyn Bousie or myself on Coral Wegmann RDAV President 2018 Look into our recently updated websitewww.rounddanceassociationvictoria.org.au 2 Squares Around Victoria - March 2018

ACEY SQUARES Naracoorte, SA 5271 Club News Contacts: Chris & Alan Hall Horsham in March is fast approaching and probably past by the time you read this report. We are busy sewing in readiness for a national event in Perth. It will be lovely to so many dress sets again on parade. Appears as though there are lots registered already. Our start to the new year has been a slow one with lots of other events happening each week as well as dancing. The trick is somehow to be consistent, not always an easy thing to do. Country music festivals are on the go at present, Lake Charlegrark with Lee Kernaghan as feature was a lovely weekend of relaxation and catching up with friends you haven't seen for 12 months. Nice to see some first timers take in the culture and experience too. I am certain they had a terrific time as there have been many facebook posts to tell the world about their fun. Frances folk festival is next, followed by a huge event at Port Fairy in March. Both events always extremely popular. Safe travels to all. Enjoy another year ahead. See you on the dance floor somewhere in this great land of ours. The Two Arnigos ACTlV-ATES Frankston, Vic 3910 Caller: Paula Wright We are back in full swing again. A few are still away on holidays, a few sickies on the list so get well soon everyone including Astrid, Molly and myself. A few ops happening, too, but we will get there. Not sure if the club will be running on the Thurs prior to the State Convention so please ring if you are visiting. Well the convention is not far away and the numbers are looking good. We will have a great time no matter what - always do. Colin will be taking care of the club over convention time, and will be there with mainstream and some plus. You're sure to have a good dance. So see y'all soon ALLABOUT SQUARES Mt Gambier, SA 5290 Caller: Andrea Braun A very happy New Year to all! Hope everyone had a safe Christmas and New Year and had a chance to recharge their batteries. Not long until club resumes on 1 February which looks like will be a large group in attendance! Our heartfelt condolences to Stuart & Bernadette on the recent loss of Stuart's brother and his partner in a tragic accident in WA. Also, extremely sorry to hear of the passing of Brad, Joyce and Tony who will all be sadly missed. Our condolences to all families. Plans are well underway for our upcoming birthday, please refer to ad with all relevant information, hope you can join us for this exciting week-end. The Two Amigos Squares Around Victoria - March

BURRA SQUARES Macleod, Vic 3085 Club News Caller: Neil Wynn We were saddened to hear of the passing of Elaine Steele, one of our dancers from earlier years, also Nancy's Granddaughter. Our condolences & thoughts are with both families. Club is back in full swing now and dancing with good numbers. New air conditioning makes a big difference. Bring a Friend night was good with a few new prospective new dancers. Our first social event of the year went very well, with High Tea & Wine tasting at Yea, even had some impromptu square dancing. (But our skill at darts left a little to be desired) Janette is coming along fine after her knee operation; we hope to see her back at the club soon. Next few weeks will be pretty hectic with visits & demos. Hopefully this will result in an influx of new dancers to join our beginner's classes that will be starting at the end of the month. See you on the dance floor somewhere. CHEMISTRY SETS Deer Park, Vic 3023 Caller: Ralph Weise Co-Caller & Cuer: Adrian Weise Our annual club picnic was an enjoyable day at Lake Wendouree, we managed to get a huge rotunda to gather and cook lunch. Later in the day Huey decided to send it down on us, we even had a visit from a local swan. Some of us went along to Essendon's welcome back dance and had an enjoyable night. Next we helped Token Squares celebrate their 20 th birthday, congratulations to Dave, Pauline, Barry, Pam and dancers. It was nice to catch up with Frank Kennedy and hear him call, he hasn't lost it. Ralph and I made a surprise visit to Adelaide to help Wild Frontier celebrate their 45 th birthday, congratulations to Jeff, Susan and dancers, what an achievement. It was nice to catch up and we thank them for their hospitality and to Adrian for taking care of the club for us. See you all in Horsham, drive safely. The Chemist CROSSROAD SQUARES Werribee, Vic 3030 Caller: Howard Cockburn First night back in February saw most of our regulars return for a fun night. The next week was our Valentine's Day dance where supper consisted of a variety of heart shaped goodies and other '!ove'ly treats. Next up was ice cream night and as always a popular event with a variety of toppings and a choice of a cone or a cup - just like in the shops. It was nice to see Lori back on the dance floor after an extended absence. Don is on the mend slowly and we wish him well with his continued recovery. Many of us are heading to Horsham for the state convention and so there will be no dance on 14 March. Our next 'foodie' night will be Death by Chocolate on 28 th March. Hope to see you on the dance floor somewhere soon. 8 Squares Around Victoria - March 2018

EASTERNB'S Paynesville Vic, 3880 Club News Caller: Max Hodder Hi Everyone. The dance Year is off and running for 2018, many good times ahead. Last week we held our annual midweek get away to Marlo for our members. We are fortunate to be able to hire a good dance venue, the Marlo Fishing Club rooms. Running from Monday to Thursday we are able to get together more informally to share experiences and generally have a good chat over morning coffee or happy hour. The picnic lunch at Cape Conran was ended early with a strong wind blowing up clouds of dust, straight into our food. Dancing a couple of hours each afternoon and then a dance each evening did little to quench the thirst for more dancing, great times were had. As usual the Wednesday evening dance was fancy dress and most folk got into the swing, with an array of costumes and characters to make the evening that little bit special. Our weekly dance continues and we look forward to another good year and welcome visitors. Max is still celebrating his O.B.E. We are also thinking off Beth Harrison who is currently having treatment and all members wish her well. Until next time Cheerio. 1Y1&N ESSENDON SQUARE DANCE CLUB Maribynong, Vic 3032 Caller: Peter Humphries Hosts: John & Ruth Humphrey Hello from Essendon. We hope that everyone has had a good summer break and are now ready to get back into the dancing again, as we all are. Our Welcome Back night was well supported, for which we thank all those who came along to help us to start our year off well. The advertising for new people is now in full swing, so now we wish it is all worth the effort. The first night for new beginners will be on the 1 st of March, and we will continue to take in new ones though March and April. There is always a lag effect with the advertising, sometimes people don't respond straight away although when they do come along quite often they stay. Until the next time, happy dancing. GOLDEN SQUARES Narre Warren, Vic 3805 Hi all, Caller: Graham Jameson Caller: Charmaine Jameson Well we are well and truly back into the swing of things! We have had our Valentine's Day dance! It was a great success plenty of supper and lots of red and white around the hall! We will be soon attending the State convention everyone's getting excited! We look forward to catching up with everyone there! Until then stay safe and have a good trip to Horsham! The Jamos 10 Squares Around Victoria - March 2018

HARLEQUIN ROUNDS Heatherton, Vic 3202 Club News Cuer & Teachers: Coral & Barry Wegmann February has been a big month for Harlequin dancers. Many of us attended and enjoyed the R.D.A.V. "Valentine's Day" dance and then followed the next Monday night club night with our Graduation of the "Class of 2017". Congratulations to 13 new round dancers after completing a full year of learning to integrate into our main group and start to share their journey of round dancing. They received a club badge and a certificate and for a bit of fun wore graduation hats to honor their achievement. The next event for us is Harlequin Rounds 7th Birthday on the 19 th March. Usually in April, but with Coral in USA for all of April on babysitting duties, we have decided to bring our birthday forward a few weeks. Ella & Barry will still be conducting the club as usual for the 6 weeks Coral will be away. For information on round dance events please check out the RDAV website or call Coral Till next time, see you Round JA YBEE SQUARE WHEELERS Notting Hill, Vic 3168 Caller: Mike Davey Caller: Laurina Collyer Cuer: Pat Saunder Laurina organised for a group of dancers to do a demonstration at Bunnings over the Australia Day weekend. Sadly, it was so hot that not many people ventured out, so it was not as successful as we would have liked. Many thanks to all the people who came along to support us - not just Jaybee club members, but people from other clubs. We really appreciated your support, in particular Andrew, who was there every day with us as well as Sash a, Nathan, Robbie, Joel, Doona and Paula with her family. Next time we will pick a venue that has air conditioning! Australia Day was celebrated in style, with Don and Minnetta buying and cooking a mountain of sausages in bread - yummy! Jaybees held a very successful Family and Friends night at the beginning of February. We had a number of keen new dancers and plenty of club members to make them welcome and help them with the dancing. We are now beginning teaching on Tuesdays from 7pm before club starts. Our pancake night coincided with Valentine's Day so we wore red, danced to love songs and dedications and ate pancakes. It was just delicious! Thanks to our committee who spent a lot of time in the kitchen cooking up a mountain of pancakes which were quickly eaten with lashings of jam and cream. We are now preparing for our AGM in March - we need a few new committee members as some of the current committee are planning on retiring. Any Jaybee member who is interested should see Alan or Chris. KALEIDOSCOPE Heathmont, Vic 3135 Caller: Janice Alexander What a great start to the year! From the Plus at the beginning of the night, the hall was buzzing and everyone was keen to be back dancing. Mark and Ian Charlesworth from Perth were able to dance with us first night back. It was wonderful to have them along. We wished Pat, Betty and Karen a happy birthday. Squares Around Victoria - March

Club News KINTYRE DANCE CLUB Cuer: Carol Simondson Ferntree Gully, Vic 3156 KINTYRE had to delay the first day of dancing for 2018 due to the extreme predicted and achieved temperature. This prompted an introduction to a Heat Policy and further details can be obtained with a quick telephone to Carol or an . Focus on Foxtrot - exactly! We are working through the foxtrot steps from Phase III upwards. This does not mean the other rhythms are not being danced as they are. As Carol will be heading across to the West in April to attend the 59 th ANSDC, the club will be in capable hands. Enquiries - always welcome carol_simo@bigpond.com or kintyredance@gmail.com or the above phone number. CAS MIKE'S PLUS Glen Waverley, Vic 3150 Caller: Mike Davey We have started a new Plus class, which is going well. Unusua liy for square dancing, we seem to have plenty of men wanting to learn and no women, and it has been fun to see some of our more experienced men dance as ladies. They do extremely well, although they should pay a bit more attention to the twirling! We are trying to get the new dancers up to speed in time to go to the Convention in Perth, so the pressure is on for both dancers and Mike. Thanks to Laurina for coming along and helping Mike with the teaching and calling and to the rest of the club for being angels to our new dancers and making them welcome. 17 PHILIP ISLAND SQUARES Club News Caller: Graham Jameson PINE CITY TWIRLERS Mount Gambier, SA 5290 Contact: Heather Telford The club is back dancing now on a regular basis. Hoorah! Basic dancing on Friday nights and mainstream on Mondays. It is good to have some beginners wishing to learn square dancing. Time will tell as to whether they stay the course. Some members of our club showed a demonstration of square dancing to a gathering at Saint Mary's Aged Care Facility here in Mount Gambier on the 9th of February. It was well received and I think there was an invitation to repeat the performance at a later date. Our AGM is to be held on IViarch the 2rd at 7.30 pm in the church hall. This will be followed by an "Old Time" square dance using 78 records with the dancers wearing old fashioned square dance clothes. An "old fashioned supper" will follow. SOUTHERN CROSS PLUS & A Albert Park, Vic 3206 Caller: Howard Cockburn Welcome to 2018! A bumper of a night to start the year off at both SCA and SCPo It was great to get back to dancing with such an enthusiastic group of dancers. Our second club day for the month saw visitors John and Jackie from Phillip Island as well as having Graham Jameson attend and join Janet to give lots of variety in the calling. Both Graham and Janet managed to get a few dances each as well. A few members are preparing to attend the State Convention but it is such a long trip for us all the way to Horsham.
