1 Tiger Times Dupo High School 600 Louisa Avenue Dupo, IL Former Student is Now Our Teacher By: Xavier Griffin Ms. Kristine Williams was hired to be the new Special Education Teacher at Dupo High School. She teaches Special Ed Math and Science for grades She is also the Sponsor of Drama Club. Ms. Williams grew up in Cahokia and moved to Dupo when she was in 3rd grade. She then went to SIUE from , and majored in Special Education. She was also involved in a sorority in college. Even though she became a teacher, growing up she always wanted to be a brain surgeon. Before Ms. Williams came to Dupo High School she taught 7th & 8th grade for a year at Jacksonville Middle School in Jacksonville, IL. Ms. Williams really does enjoy teaching at Dupo High School. She said that she enjoys the community, seeing as she knows the atmosphere since graduating from DHS in Kristine was also asked why she wanted to become a Special Education Teacher, and she responded by saying, I liked school when I understood everything. I wanted to help people who didn t like academics as much as I do. Ms. Williams was then asked why she wanted to be the sponsor of Drama Club? She responded with, It wasn t a planned decision, it's my first experience, and the students are really passionate. I love seeing their hard work when producing a show. Ms. Williams likes being the Drama Club Sponsor and hopes to keep doing it in the future as well as teaching. Volume 6 Issue 5 February 1, 2019 Editors Editor In Chief Alexis Stevens Managing Editor Sarah Ostertag Senior Spotlight Mikayla Outlaw Photography Editor Hannah Vaughan In This Issue Yellow Brick Road By: Waylen Keys Crunch Time By: Kaleb Chism So Far, So Good By: Cameron Foster Three Strikes is a Good Thing By: Andrew McAllister Off to State They Go By: Lexi Swanner Job Year 2019 Page 001 ( ) Master ( ) 02/01/ :01 AM
2 TIGER TIMES Yellow Brick Road By: Waylen Keys Tap your ruby slippers together, open the curtains, and dim the lights because the Dupo Drama Club is hosting The Wizard of Oz as their spring play. The main characters include: Grace Jelinek as Dorothy, Waylen Keys as the Cowardly Lion, Devon Cason as the Tin Woodsman, Zach Beatte as the Scarecrow, Tabitha Rendleman as the Wicked Witch of the West, and Alexis Stevens as the Good Witch of the North and Glenda. See our beautiful (but boring) Kansas farm and Emerald City set built by our creative designers, and enjoy professional acting provided by our very own students. The play will be held April 5th, 6th, and 7th in the high school little gym. They re counting on community support because the Dupo Drama Club knows there s no place like home. Brain Sports By: David Bivins With the new year, comes a new season of Scholar Bowl competitions. So far there are eight members on the team. When asked what the team does, Senior member Mercedes Ramires said, It s essentially like a team version of Jeopardy. We work together to answer trivia questions based on fine arts, math, literature, science, social studies and other miscellaneous types of questions. The team s first match was against Gibault and although they lost, Mercedes says, Gibault is very competitive and we honestly put up a good fight, especially the JV team counting they had never been in a match before. They did earn three wins these past two weeks, so things are on the looking up for them. The team s next match is Friday, February 1st at Marissa. Job Year 2019 Page 002 ( ) Master ( ) 02/01/ :01 AM
3 TIGER TIMES Military Ball By: Kyleigh Williams The Dupo AFJROTC Cadets anxiously await this time of year for the upcoming Military Ball to happen. The Ball was held in O Fallon IL on the Milburn Campus. The Military Ball is much like homecoming with a Military twist to it. Admission is $5 plus a donation of five canned goods, and the canned goods are then donated to the O Fallon food pantry. The Military Ball is a great opportunity for the Dupo and Columbia Cadets to get to know other cadets from other schools in a formal setting, Major Conley noted. So make way for dress blues and sparkles as our Cadets dance the night away. Off to State They Go By: Lexi Swanner At the last dance competition, in Edwardsville, the Dupo Dance Team qualified their pom dance routine with a score of At each competition they have brought up their scores, whether it be by five points or only by.2 points, but every little bit helps move them closer to state and their fellow competitors. So far this season we have improved a ton, but we still have a long way to go. We are excited for state, and are crossing our fingers that we qualify Hip Hop at Highland on the 2nd, says captain Lexie Stevens. The dance team had to drop out of the Marion contest due to the snow, but they competed at Mascoutah for the IHSA competition on January 19th. Their next competition is this weekend at Highland. Wish them luck! 3 Job Year 2019 Page 003 ( ) Master ( ) 02/01/ :01 AM
4 TIGER TIMES Three Strikes is a Good Thing By: Andrew McAllister The boys bowling season has come to an end. The boys last home game was Thursday, January 10 and unfortunately, they lost with a final score of The boys' regionals took place on January 15 at West Park Bowl in Columbia. Only senior Kaleb Chism advanced to sectionals, but came up short. Sectionals was a cool experience and even though it didn t go as planned, I still had a good time getting to know some bowlers that I hadn t really talked to before, said senior Kaleb Chism. The girls bowling season is also nearing an end with only regionals left on the schedule. The ladies most recent match was against the Columbia Eagles but came up short. The girl are ready to put the Columbia loss behind and get ready to put an excellent effort into regionals, says Coach Aldridge. Regionals are Saturday, February 2nd. Good luck ladies! 4 Job Year 2019 Page 004 ( ) Master ( ) 02/01/ :02 AM
