The contest is co-sponsored by the 4-H Teen Club. They contribute huge beautiful rosettes and they pay a cash prize to the contest winners. Results were: Erinn McCullick was 1st and won $30, Nicole Gustin was 2nd and won $20 and Heather Brinks was 3rd with a prize of $10. Prizes are in addition to the regular premium paid.

6 Happenings 6 2. Judges: All judges must be at least 18 years of age. Photo Winner! Congratulations to Erinn It is recommended that judges not be related to the McCullick who had one of her photos selected to be participants in the show. one of 12 photos for the 2008 Michigan Week Photo Experienced 4-H members who are 17 may Contest. Senior 15, 16, 17, 18 & 19 Check out their winning ways! 4. Eligibility: The first showmanship contest that a Tyler Armock member wins is THE species the member must show Togg. Yearling Milker 1 st in supers. No passing down the first animal to the Togg. 2 year old milker 2 nd second winner (unless the member is not going Togg. 3 year old milker 1 st & Gr. Champion to compete in the contest at all). The second species of Togg. 5 year old milker 1 st showmanship that a member wins in must be passed & Res. Champion Togg Best Udder 1 st down to the second winner. (and passed to the Togg. Junior doe kid 1 st third if the second winner has already qualified) In order to compete in Supershowmanship you MUST Togg. Intermediate doe kid 1 st have won a placing ribbon in showmanship at that fair. Togg. Senior doe kid 1 st No spot in Supershowmanship may be passed down to Togg. Senior Yearling 1 st someone who has not won a placing ribbon. Togg. Dam & Daughter 1 st 5. Questions: Questions asked during the event are to be Togg. Get-of-Sire 1 st general knowledge, easy for members to find and age Boer Market Wether 3 rd appropriate. Judges must ask the same question(s) of Showmanship 6 th each member in an age group. 6. Sportsmanship: All 4-H rules of conduct will apply Jessica Armock including those of sportsmanship before, during and Nigerian Dwarf Yearling Milder 1 st after the contest.. Nigerian Dwarf Junior Doe Kid 1 st & Res. Ch. 7. Animals: Animals for supershowmanship should be Crossbred 5 Year Old Milker 1 st & Res. Ch. manageable and easily shown. Safety of members is Togg. Intermediate Doe Kid 2 nd of primary consideration. Project coordinator will Togg. Market Wether 6 th have the final decision on animals. Animals should Showmanship 2 nd not be switched during a class but rather should be switched between classes. 8. Appearance: No sandals, canvas shoes, no open toes Ottawa County 4-H or open heels. No bare mid drifts or halter tops. Only the first judge will give a score for appearance. Supershowmanship Rules 9 Ability with animal: Interaction of the member and Effective February 2007 the animal and the member s ability to read the animal, and approach it so that it can be worked with. Score sheet: The score sheet will have a scale of five for (Interaction and control of the animal) This item is each category, except ability of exhibitor and show worth ten points technique which will have ten points each. See sample 10. Show technique: Knowledge of correct show attached. 7 Happenings 7 4-H Visual Arts and Crafts Workshop Dates to Remember November 1-2, Kettunen Center The H Visual Arts and Crafts Workshop is August 13 Teen Club Luau offering the following sessions: Basket Making; August 15 Hudsonville Still Exhibits & Notebooks Judged Fabulous Felting (jewelry and wall art from wool August 16 State 4-H Dog Show fibers); Fused Glass Jewelry (pendent and earrings); August 18 to 23 Hudsonville Fair Chinese Brush Painting (classical Chinese art using August 22, 23 & 24 State 4-H Horse Show rice paper and bamboo brushes); Crazy Sock September 4 4-H Council Meeting Creatures (wacky sock dolls); Scrapbooking September 11 Teen Club Meeting (memorable scrapbook pages made from your photos and memorabilia); Wood Peace Bowls (wood burned and hand painted 10 wood bowls); Stained Glass (unique hand cut and soldered glass decorative art); Mosaic Making (12 plate decorated with old china chips, colored glass, stones and more); Rag Rugs; Beginning Digital Photography; Composition in Digital Photography; Advanced Digital Photography; and Building Youth Leadership Skills through Arts and Crafts. For adults and teens 13 and up by January 1, Registration deadline is October 17, State 4-H Horse Show Delegates The Ottawa County 4-H State Horse Show delegates were announced at the Berlin Fair. Congratulations to the 18 and the alternate who will represent us. Upcoming Kettunen Center Workshops Connecting Youth to the World: 4-H Global & Cultural Education Workshop September 27-28, Kettunen Center Connect youth to the world by learning about successful county 4-H activities including, spending the night at a Global Village in Howell, Michigan; organizing an international dinner to raise money for global projects; documenting and preserving local barn and farmstead history; and participating in a Global Camp. Encourage world view thinking through the following sessions: Your Carbon Footprint How You Can Make a Difference on the Environment; Michigan 4-H International Exchange Opportunities in Japan, Poland, Belize and Around the World; Unlocking Your Family History Genealogy 101; AIDS Orphans in Uganda Service Learning Project; Pakistani Culture; and German Food Traditions. Learn how counties have used Que Rico! (How Rich!) the Latino Culture Curriculum in exploring the history and culture of Latin America through the arts. This workshop is for adults and teens aged 13 and up by January 1, Registration deadline is September 12, Demonstrations Any member 9 and up may enter the demonstration contest. To do so, pre register for the demonstration class on your premium sheet and mail it to the fair office. Then SIGN UP for a time slot during the time that judging for still exhibits takes. Then it is your responsibility to arrive at the demonstration location on time and ready to present your demonstration. The Teen Club provides rosettes and cash prizes which are in addition to the premium paid by the fair board. The cash prizes are : $30 first, $20 second, $10 third. Demonstrations may be on any topic but you may not use live animals. (Use a stuffed animal model) Call the 4-H office to get a copy of the score sheet. This is a fun and easy 4-H project and a terrific practice for future job interviews! A projector is available by request if you wish to use presentation software and a computer. Demonstrations will be Friday, August 22 at 10:00 a.m. in the Ladies Building Lost and Found Did you leave something at the fair? 9 Happenings 9 Put on your grass skirts, your coconut jewelry and your swim suit! The 4-H Teen club invites all teens to their beach party! Wednesday August 13th 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Kirk Park Lodge (off Lakeshore Drive 2 miles south of M-45) Bring pop to share. Teen Club will provide hotdogs, hamburgers, buns, potato salad, s mores, chips and condiments. We have a pavilion reserved and the grill will be hot and waiting. There is a $3 parking fee per car for Ottawa residents. RSVP with names to so we know how many to plan for! Donations gladly accepted to help offset costs, but this event is FREE for 4-H members. Adult chaperones welcome too. Bring your Frisbees and volley balls, swim suits and towels.
