At the Rural Provincials and Provincials, school team champions will be determined in three (3) categories: - A/2A schools - 3A schools - 4A schools Each school will select its ten (10) highest finishing wrestlers and combine placement points to determine the top school in each category. 18 Appeal Process If a coach decides to appeal a decision, a written form must be filled out and brought to the tournament chairman. The form must be accompanied with $100 cash or it will not be considered. Forms will be available at time of registration. The committee will be convened by Tournament Chairman (Helen Colbourne or Keith Daye) and will include: Head Referee and (two) coaches from either Edmonton Calgary Rurals dependent upon zone wrestler origin. Wrestling Commissioner (George Grant) will chair the meeting. Grievance Committee The grievance committee s key function is to deal with matters that occur during competition, typically discipline/conduct issues and also to handle any other matters that arise that require dispute resolution (eg. Anything that falls outside the boundaries of the competition) In case of any grievances, there will be a committee in place to hear the situation. Members of the grievance committee will include at least one of the tournament chairpersons, the wrestling commissioner, and one coach from each of the three zones. These members will be decided once the coaching list is submitted and the names will be included at the time of registration. Hospitality We have a hospitality area for all coaches / officials available in the Café off the main Cafeteria. Limited snacks are provided for Official Coaches Only. House Rules and Details of the Facility Lanyards There will be designated areas where athletes can leave their belongings. At the time of registration, athletes and coaches will be given a lanyard to wear at all times. This lanyard is your ticket to these secured rooms and to the gyms. If you are not wearing your lanyard you will not be permitted to enter these rooms and you may be asked to pay to enter the gym. The lanyard will have your name and information on it so please keep it with you at all times. There are areas in the school where ONLY athletes and official coaches will be allowed. If you lose your lanyard you will not be permitted in these areas. During the tournament, we will be using our main gym and auxiliary (red) gym for wrestling. There is limited viewing area in the Red gym so we will be rotating athletes from one day to the next. i.e. On Friday, mats A and B will be in the Red Gym and on Saturday, mats A and B will be in the Main Gym. On Friday, mats C and D will be in the Main Gym and on Saturday, mats C and D will be in the Red Gym. Page 18 of 20

19 We are doing this so athletes can have their turn wrestling in front of their family, friends and spectators. As stated above, viewing will be very limited in the red gym. All Gold Medal matches will be done in the Main Gym in front of the crowd! Forest Lawn High School is very proud to be hosting this year s provincial championship. Please be respectful of this building and help keep it clean. There are garbage and recycle bins around the school, please use them. There is a no smoking policy on school grounds. Parking is available at the school as well as the surrounding community buildings. Please try to avoid parking on the street in front of the homes across from the school. Locker Rooms No lockers will be available to wrestlers. Please use the designated classrooms to store your valuables and ensure you have your lanyard for access. Miscellaneous Items Four (4) wrestling mats will be used. Warm-up area will be in the weight room. Athletes must be accompanied by an official coach. The Tournament Centre (Announcements, Paging, etc.) will be in the Main Office and manned by Sylvia Hayward and Michelle Wagler. The Announcer Dale Zielke will be in the main gym and will announce matches and winners in the gym. Four (4) electronic weight scales will be used for the weigh-ins. All competitors and officials are requested to bring their own towels (none will be supplied). Coaches / Wrestlers are responsible for their own valuables. Photography Sessions During the tournament, student photographers will be taking candid/action shots of as many matches as possible. We ask that if an athlete has their picture taken, they fill in the information sheet carried by the photographer. We need to keep track of the athletes and their information so we can identify the athletes later. Some of these pictures may be used on the ASAA website. Page 19 of 20

20 Coaches, please ensure that all athletes have filled in the appropriate Media Release Forms from your school board. Any athlete not wishing to have their photos taken and possibly published, please let us know at time of registration. As well, formal pictures will be taken of the Bronze, Silver and Gold medalists and their bouts. Please be patient and allow our photographer to take these pictures. Team winners will have their picture taken as they receive their plaques. Zone award winner pictures will be taken at the end of the tournament. Please stay to hear the results and have your pictures taken. Thanks. Practice Area for Athletes Our school has 3 gymnasiums and only 2 will be used for tournament wrestling. The third gym will be designated for practice. There is one wrestling mat in that gym, cardio equipment and fitness equipment. Athletes will only be allowed to enter and use this equipment if they are accompanied by an official coach. Your lanyard (which will be provided during registration) must be worn at all times and this will be the identification needed to access this practice area. Please note: 1. Parents and spectators will not be allowed to enter this room. 2. There may be more than 200 athletes that will be wanting to spend time practicing and using this equipment T-Shirts Gimmics will be onsite to sell souvenir apparel in the foyer. Cash only please.
