Highlight of an Officer Vice-President, Leah Doyle Mississippi Clogging Council Volume 2, Issue 2 March 2014 Inside this issue: Encore Competition 2 Workshops 2 Cue sheet of the Quarter 3 Scholarship 4 Clogging for a cause 4 Membership Info 5 Step Highlight 5 I currently live in Amory, MS. I have been married since 2007 to Adam Doyle. We have 2 daughters, Reese, 4 years old this March, and Ava Claire who was born January 31, I work full time as a Dental Assistant and teach clogging one night a week. I began clogging when I was 8 years old when I lived in Mobile, AL with the One Step Ahead studio under the instruction of Sherry Cook. The team I was on own, won at the Showstompers dance championship. I also competed in other clogging competitions. After moving to Amory there wasn't an outlet for me to continue clogging until many years later when someone from my town decided to try out opening a studio. In August of 2012 Dana Langely opened Country Cloggers and I immediately began teaching clogging to our 2 students. Since then we have grown to 11 students and they are hard workers and truly have a love for clogging. Aside from my family, watching our students learn brings me one of life's greatest joys. Knowing that I am a part of extending the life of a dying dance art form is very fulfilling. I was nominated Vice President of the MCC in August of 2013 and I hope to see the MCC grow and excel in the clogging world.
2 Page 2 Keeping the Beat Mississippi shines at Encore Mississippi was represented at the Smokey Mountain Encore competition and workshop in Gatelinburg, TN on March 6 7 & 8 th! Kay Miles, Judy Walker along with Brandy Baygents and Haley Hopkins from Dynamic Edition Cloggers in Waynesboro, MS. Brandy wanted to let everyone know that her and Haley Hopkins both entered in solo Accapella and won several awards! Haley Hopkins won 2nd place in Accapella and I won 1st place! After the awards ceremony Brandy had to compete against all the first place winners in different age categories to determine who would win over all grand champion accapella! Mississippi is proud to announce that she won the dance off and took the title of over all grand champion accapella at the Smoky Mountain Encore competition! Mississippi is very proud to have Haley and Brandy be the only cloggers in the competition that represented Mississippi! Mississippi Workshops Every year, area teams host mini workshops along with a council meeting. The March was held via conference call. Officers and representatives discussed and finalized details for the extravaganza!! 2014 Workshops: May 3, Meridian, MS Hosted by Lauderdale County Country Cloggers July 12, Amory, MS Hosted by Country Cloggers August 22-23, MS Clogging Extravaganza Brookhave, MS

Clogging for a Cause Sue s Southern Cloggers from Liberty, MS are working with the ALS foundation. Their former instructor passed away from ALS, so they gathered together again to help raise awareness through clogging. They got to go to Gulfport and perform at the ALS Awareness Walk on March 15, Pictured form left to right: John Dequeant, Ellie Whittington, Kara Mckey, Jenna Sullivan, Hayley Dickerson, Erica Sullivan, and Wendy Dequeant. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Eventually, people with ALS lose the ability to initiate and control muscle movement, which often leads to total paralysis and death within two to five years of diagnosis. There is no cure.
