Game vs. Union Hill Here VB 7:00 Boys Senior Night; Valogram Order Deadline Sarah Williams, Recycle Hero Recycle Hero is the superhero s name. Recycle and Redesign is her game. That is Sarah Williams s Star Event in which she will compete at the FCCLA Region Meet in Waco this month. Sarah is making a superhero s costume out of recycled materials. The predominant materials are comic book pages and other newspaper comics. She has brushed on a glue and water mixture called hodgepodge to give the comics shine and durability. An old t-shirt and skirt act as a lining for the costume. The costume is complete with an old tablecloth with duct tape embellishments as the cape and a pair of old rain boots also decorated with duct tape. She says she is still debating whether or not to make the insignia on the cape the recycle logo or simply RH. The idea sparked with Sarah when she saw a pair of hodgepodged shoes on Pinterest. She took that idea and ran with it to create her recycle/ redesign project. She sees this idea can be extended to many other items, i.e. Christmas card tablecloths and bags, room decorations, and unique fabrics. She says that you just have to keep in mind that these creations are for special occasion items such as a Halloween costume. Sarah says, Paper is fragile. I had to learn the techniques to use to sew on paper. It is a lot different than sewing fabric. I couldn t have done this without Mrs. V. I haven t found anything yet that she can t do. She can cook. She can get stains out of anything. She is an amazing woman. Sarah must also have a billboard with the title of her project as well as highlighting the various sewing techniques she used. She will give an oral presentation speaking of those techniques and other aspects of the project. She will then be asked questions by the judges. If she is judged to be in the top 6, she will go on to state competition. Others who are also participating at the region meet are Kadee Anderson giving an Illustrated Talk on Social Media, Casey Gore doing a Fashion Costruction project, Skylar Evans, Angie Alvarez, and Judy Brown doing LEO (Leadership Enhancement Opportunity) tests, Megan Self as a voting delegate, and Katelyn McDonald as region officer.
