The dragon pictured above led students into the Japan room. The dragon was made from silk. Mrs. V said that she had much of the fabric stored. Casey Gore did the construction of the dragon in only three days. See succeeding pages to see the other worlds into which the students were transported.

3 World of Reading is Theme for Read Across the Bluff FCCLA members entertained the Pre-K-3rd graders with reading on Friday morning. This year marks the thirteenth year for FCCLA to carry out the Read Across the Bluff project. Senior FCCLA members recall that they were kindergarteners the year that FCCLA instigated the reading project. The chapter officers head up the project with each officer responsible for choosing other team members. The teams plan, organize, and carry out a theme for each room. The room themes depicted places around the world for the elementary students to visit, including the North Pole, The Jungle, Japan, Fairy Tale Land, and even The Moon. Team members were responsible for room props, decorations, and costumes. They set up the rooms on Thursday after school with 24 members participating. FCCLA is a student-led leadership organization whose members focus on taking responsibility, learning cooperation, developing leadership, and giving service to others. Pictured lower left are the senior FCCLA students. L-R they are McKenna Duncan, Katelyn McDonald, Kaci Powers, Haley Waid, Sarah Williams, Cheyenne Bryant, Casey Gore. Sarah Williams said, It s my favorite event, and I m so sad it s my last year. I love reading, and I love kids. Haley Waid said, It felt really good to see kids enjoy reading. I m so glad I could influence them in a positive way. Cheyenne Bryant said, It was great getting to read to the kids, and I hope this inspires them to read more. Katelyn McDonald said, I m going to miss Read Across the Bluff. I grew up with it. Once, I don t remember what grade I was in, but they did a Candyland Room where we actually got a piece of bubble gum or a Hershey s Kiss. The decorations in the rooms actually makes you feel like you re in the jungle or whatever. Then the setting in turn makes the story come alive. 10 In Celebration of Pi Definition of the number Pi (approx 3.142)... Pi (π). Definition: Pi is a number - approximately It is the circumference of any circle divided by its diameter. The value is the same regardless of the size of the circle. For the last week, Mrs. Lena Moore s 8th grade junior high class has been studying pi. Today they all brought circular objects that they could measure and determine values for the circumference and/or diameter. The items they brought were mainly PIES and some cakes and some cinnamon rolls and some mini cheesecakes! What a fun way to study! It has been said that this might become a tradition.
