The FCCLA students have several entries in the Household Arts division, and the FFA students are entering the stew contest this year. The Household Arts Contest entries will be on display in the SSHS Conference Center 1:00-5:00PM today and 9:00AM-2:00PM on Saturday. The stew tickets go on sale at Buford Park, the site of the contest at 9:00AM Saturday. Pictured right is Travis Allan, FFA officer, with the sign he built. 4 The Hopkins County 4-H is hosting Junior Rodeo Tomorrow at Fall Festival in Civic Center Top Arena You don't have to be in 4-H to participate. There are stick horse events for those who don't ride a horse and riding events for those who do. The rodeo sign up is at 8:00 am and events start at 9:00 am. Dress in your best rodeo attire. Lots of prizes 1st thru 3rd and ribbons to every contestant. 5 Harred Meets Lovato Dillon Harred won the opportunity to meet personally with one of his favorite pop stars, Demi Lovato, at her concert last weekend in Dallas. Lovato plays Mitchie in the Disney Channel original movies Camp Rock I and II. She also has her own TV show on Disney. Her latest album is called Here We Go Again. Dillon went to Sound Check before the concert began and was seated front row, right by the catwalk. Then he was welcomed into the private offstage area for a Meet and Greet with Lovato. He also met Anna Maria Perez de Tagle and Mdot who star along with Lovato in the Camp Rock movies and Demi s guitarist. Dillon entered a contest on the singer s official website. His assignment was to come up with the most creative ways to promote the website, He put out fliers in a mall in Dallas, at area schools, and at a Green Day concert at the Super Pages Center. His grandma also agreed to give $3 off tanning at her salon if the client joined the fan club. His grandma is Brenda Hallmark who owns and operates Country Village Salon in Sulphur Springs. He also created a fan page on Facebook where fans can stay updated on all news Demi Lovato. Dillon said, I met Demi Lovato before at the Stonebriar Mall in Frisco this summer. I ve been a fan of hers for a long time. The singer is from the Dallas area. Dillon went to the Jonas Brothers baseball team, Dillon with Anna Maria Perez de Tagle Demi Lovato Road Dogs, game right before the concert. The Jonas Brothers also performed at the concert. He sent in a video showing all of his promotional activities. He made his video with Windows Movie Maker. Dillon loves music and playing his guitar. His family is musically inclined. His grandma sings, and his grandpa plays and sells guitars. They are friends with country singer Vince Gill. His cousin, Kandace Austin, who attended SBISD for many years, is also interested in singing. Dillon enjoys using video software and doing photo editing. He has thought about going into movie production and/ or photography. He has photographs entered in this year s Hopkins County Fall Festival. His sister, senior Jessi Nichols, is a subject of some of his photo entries. He has won several blue ribbons for his photography. He has done acting auditions also. Dillon who is a sophomore says that he is definitely going to college. He wants to find a college that can help him hone his video and photography skills. They are Ashton Sharp, Sarah Williams, Halie Waid, Kaci Powers, Meagan Coberley, Katelyn McDonald, Cheyenne Bryant. Game Scores- 1st Game - 23/25 2nd Game - 25 /22 3rd Game - 20/25 Match - Lost Serves made were Sharp-5, Waid-15, Powers-1, Coberley- 1, McDonald-4, Bryant-11. The JV battled hard to the end but just could not pull it off tonight. We failed to get the serves over that we should have, and two of our best hitters were really off tonight. So hopefully we can come back strong and battle back when we see NH on our floor. Great effort, Lady Bears!! In non-district play, for the 3rd time this year the Bears play the Dodd City Hornets and for the 3rd time this season the Bears go down in 3 games. Sulphur Bluff "B" vs James Bowie "B" Team Ist game - 25/23 2nd game- 21/25 3rd game- 23/25 Match- A Loss Points: Greer-2, Dorner-3, Swanson-8, Fite-3, Wolf-1, Hurley-1, Calhoun-15. Sulphur Bluff "A" Team vs James Bowie "A" Ist game - 25/12 2nd game- 25/9 3rd game- Match - A Win!!!! Points Harred-2, Alvarez-24, Hurley-5, Calhoun-3. The "B "Team played really hard but just could not pull it out tonight. Although they moved well and hustled to get the ball.they will for sure get it next. "A" Team was on tonight. Angie Alvarez served the ball extremely well. James Bowie just could not seem to break it. Everybody on the floor served and received the ball great. Very proud of them getting the win with two game wins back to back. Great Job Lady Bears!! Keep It Up!! Next game is Monday, September 20, North Hopkins. 5:00pm with "B" Team first, following with "A" Team. Sulphur Bluff 15, Harts Bluff 4 JH Bears Win in Baseball Against Harts Bluff JH Baseball Results Sulphur Bluff played really good at the plate against Harts Bluff. Sulphur Bluff totaled 19 hits in the ballgame. Leading the way at the plate for the Bears was pitcher/first baseman Justin Goldsmith who hit a 2-run homerun over the left center wall in the first inning to set the tone for the rest of the game. Justin finished with 3 hits total. Hunter Powers, Dakota Emerson, Hudson Northcutt and Jaden Goldsmith also had 3 hits each. Taylor Josey had 2 hits, Kaleb Brown had 1 hit, and Thomas Coberley had 1 hit to round out the hitting for the Bears. Once again for the second game in a row Justin Goldsmith pitched the win throwing 4 innings and striking out 8 and Dakota Emerson closed the game out pitching the last 3 innings and striking out 9. This win puts the Bears at 3-0 for the season. The next game will be Monday at home against Avery at 4:00. Page 8

10 The sixth grade was given an assignment to "Define Freedom: What Freedom Means to Me" to celebrate Freedom Week. They wrote poems, made a power point, painted a picture, made a shadow box and collage and Jaden Goldsmith brought his great grandfather's navy uniform along with his great grandfather's picture. They also had to memorize and recite part of the pre-amble of the constitution in honor of Constitution day today.
