3 JH Lady Bears Compete with Avery, Harts Bluff JH Girls Basketball- January 11, Sulphur Bluff vs Avery The B team consists of Judy Brown, Lyndsey Calhoun, Shelby Williams, Sarah Williams, Angie Alvarez, Shelbi Hurley, and Halie Waid. When The Bluff played Avery on January 11, we won by a score of In the first quarter SB scored 6 to Avery s 2. In the 3 rd quarter SB scored 10 to Avery s 2. Those were Avery s only points in the entire game. Scorers were Alvarez with 10, Hurley with 1, Waid with 8, Shelby Williams with 4, Calhoun with 2, and Sarah Williams with 4. The A team consists of Ashton Sharp, Maycee Potts, Kaci Powers, Katelyn McDonald, Cheyenne Bryant, and Meagan Coberley. The A team kept the streak alive and also defeated Avery In the 1 st quarter it was SB-6/AV-4; 2 nd quarter SB-8/AV-4; 3 rd quarter SB-4/AV- 3; and 4 th quarter SB8/AV-8. Scorers were Sharp-2, Potts-3, Powers-8, Bryant-4, Coberley-9. JH Girls Basketball January 21, 2010 Sulphur Bluff vs Harts Bluff The teams played against Harts Bluff last night. The B team defeated Harts Bluff Scoring was 5-5, 5-2, 6-2, and 2-4. Scorers were Alvarez with 8, Hurley with 2, and Sarah Williams with 8. The SB A team was defeated SB-HB scoring by quarters was 0-9, 5-7, 6-6, Scorers were Potts-4, Powers-7, Bryant-4, Coberley-2, and McDonald-4. The next game is Monday, January 25 at Yantis. The tentative starting time is 4:30 PM. There will be only 2 games. The junior varsity team consists of Katelyn Brown, Ester Marquez, Stephanie Hogue, Kelsey Dorner, Kaitlyn Hancock. The varsity team consists of Becca Naylor, Mikayla Potts, Hayley Lawson, Ashley Bryant, Ginger Thompson, Karissa Wolf, Jamie Goldsmith, and Brittany Andrews. The junior varsity won Scoring by quarters SB-Boles was 8-4, 14-6, 11-0, and 7-8. Scoring was Hancock-11, Hogue-8, Brown -14, and Marquez-7. The varsity team won Scoring by quarters SB-Boles was 8-11, 19-7, 9-4, Scorers were Lawson-4, Bryant-4, Thompson- 16, Wolf-13, Goldsmith-6, Andrews-4 Offensive rebounds were Wolf- 9, Lawson-3, Bryant-1, Naylor-3. Coach Evans said, Great game! The girls controlled the ball well and ran at their pace. The girls are playing extremely well together as a team and each athlete is playing their role when they step out on the floor. We are hoping that we continue consistently through district play. The next game is tonight, January 20 versus Phoenix Charter with the varsity girls game starting at 6:00 PM Homecoming! FCCLA Community Service Project Go beyond the limits and give the children and teenagers of Scottish Rite Hospital a smile by donating Matchbox or Hot Wheels cars and/or handheld games. 6 Volume 12, Issue 19 New Scoreboard Goes Up in Old Gym-Through donations made by the Little Dribbler s Association and Alliance Bank, a new scoreboard has been installed in the old gym. Although the majority of the school s games will be played in the new gym, the scoreboard will be much appreciated during practices and during tournament play. The Little Dribbler s Association will also get plenty of use out of it. The school appreciates the donations from Alliance and Little Dribblers. Little Dribblers begins their spring season next weekend in Saltillo. 8 Volume 12, Issue 19 Beta Brings Home Wins-Beta competed last week at the state convention in San Antonio. The electronic scrapbook headed up by Minerva Marquez (below left) won first place. The character sketch contest also won first place. This is the first time The Bluff has ever competed in the character sketch and were thrilled to bring home a first place plaque. The sketch actors pictured below L-R arecindy Hatfield, Becca Naylor, Stephanie Hogue, and Dustin Lawson. The entire Beta Club will be traveling to nationals in Louisville, KY, this summer. In order to raise money for that trip they will be having their annual Beta Stew so mark your calendar for Sunday, January 31, at the Sulphur Bluff Community Center. Serving will begin at 11 AM.As always, Don and Katie Patterson will be making the stew as they have done every year since Beta s inception.
