Please make reservations by 7:00 pm on Thur., Mar.16th! A MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD by John Carbonello Over 100 people attended the February Red & White Dance. Mr Jonathan played some great dancing music and Ray Huard of Paper Moon taught a graceful Waltz pattern with the help of one his students. Paper Moon also provided some great showcases which included: An energetic Youth Hustle Formation Team (choreographed by Maria Huard). Pirates of the Caribbean Viennese Waltz performed by NHABDA President Eileen Morin and her husband Mike (choreographed by Maria). An elegant Foxtrot Formation Team (choreographed by Ray Huard). Ninja & Samurai Tango Formation Team (choreographed by Maria). According to board member Diane Nine: The Viennese Waltz was a very ambitious dance with a few Paso Doble moves and a lift! The formation teams were also very creative, especially the Tango team who enacted a sword fight choreographed as part of the dance. Thank you to all who participated in the 50/ 50 raffle with proceeds to benefit the NHABDA scholarship fund. Last month the Outreach group performed at Ridgewood Center, Bedford NH. They are on tour at Ledgewood Bay, Milford (Sunday March 12) and have been invited to dance at the Bektash Shrine Center in Concord for the second annual EGGstravaganza (April 8 or 9). Next month on Saturday, March 18th NHABDA presents the Emerald Ball. The music will be provided by The Dave Burbank Orchestra. Black (or green) tie optional. The Hepcats are coming! Below is some information about the Hepcats provided by Jamison Couture, president of the group. The UNH Hepcats Swing Club started back in 2001 but recently had a revival in We are a student-run organization at UNH so our teachers and coaches are students who have found a love for swing dancing through our group. We are 40 members strong, mainly consisting of UNH students. We have a following in the surrounding community who also attend our events; as our events are always open to the public. The Hepcats hold weekly lessons and social dances on Tuesday nights and either rehearsals or free dances on Sunday afternoons. The Hepcats focus on exposing first-time dancers to the world of swing dancing by teaching East Coast, Charleston, Lindy Hop, and West Coast. We organize a number of large social dances at UNH with live bands during the year. In the past couple of years, the Hepcats have also discovered an enjoyment for showcases and have been choreographing a few numbers a year. NHABDA held a successful West Coast Swing Intensive at the end of January taught by Mr. Jonathan. On Saturday, April 1, Norman Thibeault of Fred Astaire Dance Studio will return to teach an Intermediate Quickstep and Intermediate to Advanced East Coast Swing Seminar. See enclosed flyer for details. The board thanks Betty and Eileen for coordinating these seminars. Dance Etiquette Reminder (from DanceSport) Dance travel around the floor always follows a counter-clockwise direction. This is to reduce, if not eliminate, your chances of colliding with another couple. If you do happen to collide with another couple, offer a smile and a sincere apology.
