PRESIDENT S MESSAGE Greetings friends of NHABDA Hope everyone is having a great summer. So far, it seems to be flying by. I can t believe we are approaching August already. As it happens, my birthday is in August. (Although I refuse to mention which birthday it is.) As an early birthday gift, my daughters presented me with two VIP tickets to see Move - Live on Tour, starring Derek & Julianne Hough from Dancing with the Stars. The show, which was in Boston for only one night, was fantastic and full of nonstop energy. As part of the show, Derek brought 6:45 7:30 pm Cha Cha Lesson by Joe Butera 8:45 Showcase by Joe Butera Dance 7:30 11:00 pm General Dancing to Joe Butera, DJ Bottled water available. Complimentary ice, coffee and desserts.you may bring your own alcoholic beverages and snacks, however smoking is not allowed. WOOD FLOOR! up on stage Adrianne Haslet-Davis, the dance teacher from Arthur Murray who lost her foot in the Boston Marathon bombing. It was so inspiring to see them dance together. As a VIP we got preferred seating and got to meet (briefly) and take pictures with Derek & Julianne. We really felt special and all I can say is that they are even better in person. So much talent in one family! We had a great time at the Summer Under the Stars dance in July. At the pre-dance lesson, Betty Ashooh from Getin-Step taught a fun Mambo pattern. Later in the evening, we were treated to a showcase arranged by Natalie Mavor Miles of Newport Ballroom. The two thirteen year old performers, Isaiah Stephens and Jadin Archambeault, blew us away with continued on pg. 2

Many of you may know Beth & Ron Blankenstein. Ron, now retired, taught dance lessons at Let s Dance, Queen City Ballroom and Concord Community Education. I was pleasantly surprised to see them at the July dance. They are here for the summer escaping the South Carolina heat. We also welcomed a new DJ, Chris Ulbrich from Alpha Beats. He and his helper Devon, kept us entertained with an awesome variety of dance music. As usual, many thanks to all who helped, brought door prizes and brought food to share. Our next dance is on Saturday, August 15th at the NH Institute of Art. The theme will be Luau so break out those Hawaiian shirts and join us for a fun evening. Joe Butera will be our DJ. He will be teaching a cha-cha lesson before the dance and also providing the showcase. Please make your reservations early as space is limited at the NHIA Application for NHABDA Membership New Hampshire Amateur Ballroom Dancers Association I wish to be a member of NHABDA. I am an amateur dancer and receive no income from ballroom dance shows, lessons, or competitions. NAME (1) On July 19th, the Outreach group danced at Aurora Senior Living in Derry as a special request from their activities staff. It was very well attended, which limited the already small dance floor space. Many of the residents danced with our performers at the end, including the father of Lana Stewart, one of our group s dancers. On August 16th the Outreach committee will take a break and enjoy a BBQ at Cheryl & Joe Hannaford s compound. We have had a couple of people who have expressed an interest but we still need more volunteers to join us on the Board of Directors or on a committee. If you don t want to make the commitment because you think it may be too time consuming and/or don t want to attend every dance, consider job sharing with someone. The more people that help, the less work it will be for everyone involved. When I went out at lunch, the thermometer on my car said 94. Stay cool and hope to see you soon.
