A MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD by John Carbonello Nothing like a mild January Saturday night, a day before the Patriots AFC Conference Championship game, to attend our Winter Wonderland Dance. Alpha Beats provided wonderful music all night. Dance instructor and choreographer Theo Martinez started the evening with a mambo lesson. During the break Theo and his partner Kelly Wain performed a three-dance showcase which included a sizzling cha-cha, romantic rumba and an amazing mambo. Our next event is on Saturday, February 18th at Pinkerton. It will be a Valentines theme dance so break out your red & white attire. Music will be provided by Mr. Jonathan, DJ and there will be a waltz lesson and extensive showcase by Paper Moon Dance Studio from Merrimack, NH. (During the showcase, look for a familiar face from the NHABDA board performing the Viennese waltz!) We will also be conducting a 50/50 raffle to benefit the NHABDA Scholarship Fund. 6:45 7:30 pm Waltz Lesson by Papermoon Dance Center 8:45 Showcase by Papermoon Dance Center 7:30 11:00 pm General Dancing to Mr. Jonathan, DJ Bottled water available. Admission: $12. for current NHABDA members $17. for non-members (Annual dues are only $20.) Late reservations and admissions at the door: $2.00 additional. Spotlight on Outreach: Once a month, ten times per year, the NHABDA Outreach program performs dance demonstrations at New Hampshire nursing homes and healthcare facilities. The group has traveled as far north as Tilton, south to Nashua and Windham, east to Hampton and west to Jaffrey. NHABDA Board Member Joyce Wilson has led this effort for the past ten years. She schedules the events, coordinates the dancers, checks the facilities as it relates to the dance demonstration and informs NHABDA of the success. Outreach is booked many months in advance. The group contains 18 dance couples with about 12 regular performers. Each couple performs one solo dance and participates in the group dances. The dancers may bring their own music and/or dress according to the music. This past December one couple dressed as Mr. & Mrs. Santa Claus. The group always strives to entertain and rarely disappoints. They even succeed in getting residents, staff and continued on pg. 2

Joyce often receives requests from facilities who have heard about them through word of mouth and they continually receive requests to return to facilities to perform again. On January 8 the group danced at St. Theresa Rehabilitation Center and Nursing Home in Manchester. Shortly afterwards she received a thank you note which read: Dear Joyce and all the wonderful ballroom dancers. Thank you so much for your wonderful performance. Everyone loved it! The tenants and residents were still talking about it midweek. You are amazing. The next Outreach will be on Sunday, February 12 at Ridgewood Center, Bedford. Last but not least, we received the following note after our November food drive, which was delivered by Virgie Beacom: Dear Friends at NHABDA, Thank you so much for collecting food to help the NH Food Bank serve those in need. The total weight of the food you donated was 176 pounds, which amounts to approximately 147 meals for the hungry. I cannot express in words the impact this gift will have on our community thank you for sharing your blessings with others.
