We had about 125 members and guests in attendance. It was a night filled with food, music and great dancing. This month we will celebrate Halloween on the 25 th with our always popular best costumes contest and some spooky music! I want to give a special thanks to Jim Barger for making available discounted tickets and reserved tables for our club at the Frankenmuth Auto Fest Dance. This year is going by so quickly. Some of our club members will be leaving soon for their winter homes. I hope those with property in Florida didn t experience any damage due to this year s hurricane season. Please travel safely and I look forward to seeing you next spring. I want to thank the club membership for their continued support. I work very hard to make the club the best it can be. Our financial information is carefully reviewed and discussed at each board meeting to insure we are able to meet all our financial responsibilities for current and future needs. If anyone has concerns, please bring them to me personally and I will be happy to take time to answer your questions. The club s administration is transparent, without secrets - all board meetings are open to the membership, we welcome anyone interested in attending. The next board meeting is scheduled for October 2 7pm Ernie Callard s home, 5109 Bloss Dr., Swartz Creek. This year s calendar allows us to dance every Wednesday (barring a snow day) until the end of the year which means we will dance Thanksgiving Eve, as well as the Wednesday before and after Christmas. Our New Year s Eve party will be at Rollhaven in Flushing. October s dance lesson is West Coast Swing taught by Joann Podleski. Here s the DJ lineup: Angela, Joann, Joann and Dave. 3 Why Does Your Brain Love It When You Dance? It Is Deeply Connected With Happiness Like so many other aspects of human behavior, say laughter and happiness or handwriting and personality, dancing and happiness are connected at the hip. It doesn t matter what comes first. They both stimulate each other. If you are happy, you feel like dancing. That s why 2 year old babies do those cute impromptu jigs when they are happy. Reciprocally, if you dance, you start feeling happy. Dancing lifts our mood, makes us feel positive. We are just wired that way. Happiness comes from a feeling of security and freedom. When you are secure, your brain s defense mechanisms can take a break. When you don t have a care in the world, your body language tends to be different. You are willing to stand up, make some noise and jump about, show yourself to the world perhaps this behavior goes back to our hunting behavioral roots. This sense of security and random abandon is further amplified when we are part of a group. When you feel safe, secure, perhaps invincible to some extent you feel like dancing. And indeed, when you dance, you feel on top of the world. CureJoy Editorial

New Shirt Supplier Higher Quality More Choices See Terry Council DANCE ETIQUETTE: Group Dance Lessons While taking a group class, the instructor deserves your utmost attention at all times. This is not social time, it is instruction that other people and the instructor are trying to concentrate on. While in class it is assumed you will attempt to do whatever the instructor asks of the group. If you are not getting it, the instructor has a responsibility to the group to keep things going, not to stop everyone until you get it (it may take you two or three different lessons before you get some things. Asking questions is a good thing, however, excessive question asking is selfish and hogs a lot of time away from the group. If you have excessive questions, wait until after class (the instructor does not have to take the time to help you after class, although most will give you five minutes or so, but don't abuse this) or better yet, schedule a private lesson with them.
