1 Jitterbug Jive Dedicated to the Bop, Shag and Swing Dance Styles Volume 30* ISSUE 4* September 2018 Please note: Our DJ s are enjoying themselves at SOS in North Myrtle Beach, so there will be no dancing in Maxwell s Lounge on Saturday, September 15 th. This article as an important part of my job as President of the Music City Bop Club, as this gives me the means to talk to each and every one of you. One major way to keep our club functioning is to communicate with all of you through this electronic newsletter, and I thank Sue Kestner for the countless hours she (and Jackie) spends on this newsletter. By the way, this is an open newsletter, in that anyone can contribute an article, or if you want something put in our newsletter, see Sue. Let me introduce you to our Music City Bop Club. The Music City Bop Club is an organization with an open membership, meaning that you, our members, elect our officers, and we hold monthly meetings where we discuss the new and upcoming events, dance lessons, and special events. Your Officers for 2018 are: Me as President Michal Ann Scudder is our Vice President, Ron Cherry is our Treasurer, Sandy Webster is our Secretary, and Diane Thurston is our Trustee (and chief photographer). We officers do everything we can to make sure that our members have a great time, but we still need your input to make sure that you are happy, and want to come out every Saturday night. We continue to try new things, and new events that will help a charity, or add to our enjoyment. Let s talk about our Millennium Maxwell House Hotel Maxwell s Lounge. Remember that we are there because we provide revenue to the Millennium Maxwell House Hotel they are a business, after all. Buy some dinner, a drink, coffee, or a bottle of water, and remember we need to keep our bar staff happy, so a tip would be appreciated. What do they do for us? For over twenty years we have had a place to meet, dance, and listen to great music. We have a great dance floor that is large enough to dance on, and friendly people like Willem, George, Becca, Carl, and many others that look out for us, walk us to our cars when it s dark, and provide a safe place to have a great time. Our web site is In addition to our monthly newsletter calendar, upcoming events are listed on our web site. Our web site contains our old newsletter archives, and our bylaws as well. Be sure to check out the links to other dance clubs and their dance events. We have added literally hundreds of photographs over the last several years, so while you are in our web site, check out the photographs. Sue Kestner has a new picture web site that you can easily get into from our web page, and print out (for money of course) photographs of you or your friends at our various dance events. What an Animal Kingdom party we had! Thanks to the dancers in attendance at this party, YOU contributed $768.00! The Music City Bop Club threw in another $500.00, for a total of $1, to help our animals in need. Peggy Ivie, Bobby Green, and Kathy Fuller decorated, collected money, and with Peggy s help we gave out prizes! Thank you!! So.. On to Saturday, September 22nd. This is our Red, White and Blue party. This is the party where we gather gifts for our service men and woman. They are scattered across the globe on our behalf, and we owe them recognition for what they do for us. I have been
2 talking about this for several weeks, and we have put flyers out describing what we have been told is needed. Still not sure what to buy? Look in this newsletter and you will find the list. Of course there are shipping costs, and other items to be purchased, so if you want to give cash, feel free to do so. THANK YOU to Rhonda Walker for putting these packages together and mailing them out to our service men and women! What is the Music City Bop Club contributing? We have spent $500 for items on the list, plus will donate $250 for postage, AND for our members we are providing a FREE All-American buffet meal in the Hotel Restaurant for you, running from 6 PM until 8 PM. The buffet is hamburgers, hot dogs, French fries, salad, potato salad, baked beans, ice tea, and desert. YES... this is birthday night as well, so you not only have desert with your meal, you have birthday cake! There will be no monthly membership meeting on September 22nd - we ll put that off until October. I have been asked about Halloween, and yes, we will have a Halloween party on October 27 th, in the Lounge. More on that subject in next month s newsletter. Last items, as long as we are talking about upcoming parties. We will have our annual Christmas party on Sunday, December 2nd. Most of you know about this fantastic party virtually free for members. We will have a guest DJ as always, so even our DJ s can enjoy our celebration. All this is in the Crowne Ballroom, on the 10 th floor. THEN, we have our New Year s Eve party same Crowne Ballroom, open to everyone - the price to be determined. A free Champagne toast at midnight is included, as is a full buffet breakfast after midnight, plus party hats and noise makers. We have set a limit of 150 guests, and have just a few rooms in a room block at the Millennium Maxwell House Hotel, for $119 per night, plus Halloween Party tax. We are partnering with our sister club in Nashville the Nashville Dance Club, and we are not out for a profit just somewhere to dance on New Year s Eve. There will be fireworks in Nashville at midnight, and you will have a perfect viewing spot from the top floor of the hotel. Last item - We continue to work with the management at the Millennium Maxwell House Hotel, and they have listened to our needs. There is now a third speaker on the restaurant wall in Maxwell s Lounge, which gives us better sound and depth to our music, so we can dance better! OR. hear better and dance more! The discount on drink and food prices has improved as well from the current 12% to 20% off on all food prices and drinks for Music City Bop Club members. See you Saturday night! Randy Mark your calender Halloween Party with the Music City Bop Club Oct. 27, 2018 Prizes for best Halloween Costume More Info in next months newsletter
