Thoughts from your President The lights have been taken down, and the decorations and tree have been put away. We bid farewell to 2014 and rang in and celebrated a new year. As we roll into the new year, our club rolls in with some new officers, like me, your new club president aka the new guy. So, who is the new guy? My name is Alan Fenstermacher and I am one of the clubs newest members. I am retired from the U.S. Navy where I served my country for 21 years as a jet engine mechanic. Presently I work as a production technician at Mack Trucks. I am 60 years old and have been happily married to my wife Carol for 27 years. We have two grown children, Lysa and Jonathan, and two grandchildren, Anthony and Sophia. My interests, primarily are centered around the automobile, whether it be car shows, car museums, automotive memorabilia, die-cast, automotive art. I just love cars. (continued next page)
4 This position in the club is new to me, so please be patient with me and support me as I am learning the ins and outs of this job. I am looking forward to a great season of club activities and events, and I am going to be relying on your support and participation in getting things done. If we are going to have a successful year we all have to work at it. We also need to grow the club, so if you know or see someone with a classic car or meet someone who has an interest in the car hobby invite them to a meeting or a cruise just promise you won t elect them to office at their first meeting. Just kidding. Here s to a great year; let s have some fun. Alan Fenstermacher FYI! - Check out our web site Would you like to write an article about your car? Or do you have anything of interest for this spot, if so send it to: mjpokojni@rcn.com or mail to Mary Jane Pokojni 37 Ridgewood Rd. Easton, PA 25 years ago In 1990 Dairy Farmer Bob Frey (a long time member and story writer for this newsletter) was featured in the express/times newspaper. Last week January 21, in the almanac section of the paper the article and his picture was reprinted. 25 years ago: Farm living is the life for me: There is no sidewalk leading from the driveway to the barn on Bob Frey s Pohatcong Township dairy farm. If you stop by for a visit, there s a good chance you ll leave with muddy shoes. But that s farming. In addition to 120 milk cows, Bob raises an assortment of crops on his 350 acre farm, He says a wall has risen between some residential neighborhoods and nearby farms. He says he can t understand how people can live in the rush-hour world of the cities. said Frey, People like to move out into the country, but they don t like tractor noise or flies, adding, the closer to the ground you live, the longer you live.

8 BEHIND THE MOTOMETER PEASANT PRIDE I m not proud and never have been. Well, maybe I d better hedge that a bit. When at the age of 68 I first became a grandfather. I was pretty proud. But, in general I don t think I ve been pompous and proud. If it runs and gets the job done, that s just fine with me. I don t bleed green and rave about my John Deere stuff and my red blood has nothing to do with CNH International red paint. I ve owned perhaps a dozen canines and I am a bit partial to my red heeler. Over the years I acquired Ford, Chevy, GMC and Dodge trucks; some good and some not so good. A few were dogs. Probably my worst vehicle was a Dodge four wheel drive pick-up truck built in the mid 1970 s. It was not a power wagon. With its oxidized orange paint we called it the pumpkin wagon. Perhaps you recall the bird bath hoods. The stylists made the top of the hood concaved and so after every rain the water puddled in the center of the hood until it evaporated or somebody moved the thing. That Dodge did manage to get the job done, but just barely. The only thing good about the vehicle was its dash. The same brilliant industrial designer who dreamed up the hood made the entire area above the gauges into a shelf the full width of the cab. It measured at least eighteen inches from the edge to the windshield and it held my life s possessions close at hand which included but not limited to: penknife, calculator, gloves, seed corn notebook, seed corn hat, nose lead, ballpoint pen magic marker, cow marking crayon, sun glasses, can opener, vise grips, thermometer, o b chains, ear tags, welding rods, exacto knife, loc-tite, fence tester, dog biscuits, cough drops, flashlight, screw driver, duct tape and earplugs. The best part was that the whole shelf sloped 45 degrees toward the windshield, so that none of my possessions ever bounced off even when chasing calves uphill out of the meadow on a 16 degree slope with all four wheels spinning. My stuff just laid there and jiggled around. I do have a restored 1917 Model T Ford Touring and I must admit I m a bit proud of it. I had to do some work on it and got it running one warm February day and decided to take the grandkids for their very first ride in it. I left the Model T running, puggidy, puggidy, puggidy spark retarded and went into the house. I got my daughter-in-law s permission, found sneakers and parkas, stuffed the kids into them, went back outside and loaded the kids into the back seat. I got in myself, pushed in on the left (low gear) pedal and stalled it. I got out and cranked. My daughter-in-law took pictures. I cranked some more. Nothing, not even a pop with good compression and me getting short of breath, I had to admit defeat. Everybody out of the Car I said a bit disappointed. Five year old Caleb, who was just learning to read, looked down at the Ford script embossed in the Model T running board and said Humph...it s a Ford. You know, I must confess it kind of hurt my pride. REPRINTED FROM February 2006 BOB FREY
