FROM JIM AND PATTI BURR CHAPTER DIRECTORS Hello Everyone August is here, and the rain remains. Hard to enjoy the riding if mother nature wants to rain every day. Well we just finished All Chapters East weekend July 27 th -29 th. Overall 144 reservations from 19 chapters. Chapter B members did an outstanding job of representing who we are and what we have to offer. A big thank you goes out again to the All Chapter East committee who did an outstanding job of planning and communicating. To the visitation team who gave up their weekends to go and visit chapters promoting the event over the 9 months. To the Chapter B membership who contributed and assisted where they could during the event. From cooking that fantastic Friday night Spaghetti dinner to cleaning, trash detail, filling coffee, setting up and closing, made it easier and enjoyable for all. For those Chapter B members who took the time in making the wonderful Baskets, and quilted wall hanging were all success stories. The Covered Bridge ride was well received (28 bikes). The Ride coordinators Jim Duff, Duayne Keen, and Rob Simmons did a great job of planning and making sure the ride was fun and enjoyable for everyone. To Pat Simmons for making the lunch for the riders. To our vendors Burnt Cabins for the delicious Saturday morning breakfast and Enck s Catering for the wonderful Saturday night dinner. We appreciated their involvement and support. Kevin & Jeff from Lancaster Honda for giving of their time, energy and expertise. To Dave (Owner) of Lancaster Honda (Sponsorship) a heart felt thank you for all you provided and assisted with. Patti and I truly congratulate, appreciate and thank all of you (Chapter B membership) for your hard work in making All Chapters East 2018 a great success. If you have photos, please share them with Linda Clavier for the Scrapbook WingDing in Knoxville is up next for 33 Chapter members. We will be putting out an to all of you next week, so we can finalize the plans. Some of us are camping and others have hotels. Some of us are riding, some are driving. Some are leaving on Saturday after the Gathering and others are leaving on Monday. My goal is to get everyone together to make sure we all know what is happening and where we can meet once we there. We also will need to plan a photo opportunity while there. That s it for now Be safe Jim & Patti
FROM RON AND SANDY SPENCE ASSISTANT CHAPTER DIRECTORS All Chapters East is over and what a great chapter we had! Thanks you to all who helped. Whenever a task needed to be done, it was. The weather broke and gave us a couple really nice days. We had a large number of bikes go out on the Covered Bridge ride. A special thanks to East Lampeter Township police for safe traffic control. Now all things WingDing! As most of you know I m having trouble with my 1500, but not many know of my new 2012 wing. I ll be picking it up sometime next week, getting it ready for WingDing. About 33 chapter members are going. What a great time we are looking forward to. Seeing old friends and meeting new. That s what chapter life is about. Oh and a dash of fun too. See you soon. 5 FROM JOHN PARKER M.E.C. August Riding is good, many trips planned First, I would like to personally thank Jim and Patti Burr for accepting the invitation from District to host this year s All Chapters East (ACE), what a fantastic event! If you were not among the 40+ chapter members that participated you missed a really great time. The ACE Team coordinated a really good time for all. The sponsorship and participation by Lancaster Honda provided a unique opportunity to meet Dave and Diane Moore, to have a 2018 Gold Wing tech session with Kevin and Jeff and Wings with a couple used for demo rides for anyone who wished to try them out. Our Bike(r) Blessing and Covered Bridge Ride was a great success, a special thankyou to the Pastor Mike Sigman and the East Lampeter Township Police Department. Our meals were exceptional, starting with a spaghetti dinner prepared by our great cooks in the chapter on Friday evening; breakfast on Saturday morning was catered by Dawn Harnish, owner of the Burnt Cabins Grist Mill, pancakes, sausage, baked egg dish and much more and then Saturday dinner catered by Enck s Catering, chicken, brisket, vegetables, etc. And of course, Turkey Hill ice cream all weekend (even as a midnight snack). Again, many thanks to all the chapter members who helped to make it happen, without everyone s help it would not be possible. I think it was one of the best events during my time riding with Chapter B. On July 7 th, we had 6 Chapter B members doing Flag Maintenance at Indiantown National Gap Cemetery, Mike and John Yavor, John and Faye Oberholser, Ron Armstrong and John Parker. Now that July is over we still have many rides planned, check the website calendar. Of course the big one is Knoxville for GWRRA s Annual Wing Ding in August 28 th to September 1st, plan to attend, this is large rally in great riding country, and information is available for this event on our website. GWRRA finally caught up with Carl and Bonnie Esbenshade, they had been to several chapter events and joined GWRRA. We also have a new member from York, Cheryl Feher who has been to Chapter B ice cream with Tedd Pounds. Our Chapter B Family continues to grow, we are fortunate to have an active chapter and many willing volunteers. If you know a motorcyclist, any brand, invite them to a gathering, a chapter function or a chapter ride, that is the only way they can get a good look at us. We welcome all riders/co-riders to come enjoy our events, we promise a good time.
JOHN PARKER cont In August, besides our Tuesdays for ice cream, we will again be doing Flag Maintenance at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery on August 4 th, there is a Back Roads Ride from August 10 th to August 12 th, a dinner ride on August 18 th, our chapter gathering on August 25 th and starting on August 28 th it is Wing Ding in Knoxville TN. Check the Chapter B website for details. Our Roll for Dough participation cruising along, we have enough points for free chapter dues, after ACE we will have 23 points. Although it is not a competition, we are in first place and well ahead of 2 nd place (Chapter T and Chapter V each have 13 points). We only need five members attending to get the point but we are getting more folks enjoying the fun of visiting other chapters and other districts, that is great, the more the merrier, keep up the good work. Again, I would like to thank everyone for wearing their colors more frequently; I have been to several functions where the increase is noticeable. Chapter Pride, is important when we are out as a group; we want everyone to know who we are, so that they can appreciate our safe riding and good behavior. Finally, I wish each of you a continued healthy, happy and safe riding season, attend as many of our planned events for your Fun, Safety and Knowledge, as you can. 9 DINNER RIDE July 14, 2018 What a great time with the dinner ride on Saturday, July 14th. Jim Burr led the ride from Sheetz on the Oregon Pike and got lost (at least he tried). So our new members, Carl and Bonnie Esbenshade led a nice ride through the countryside. Sixteen members attended Bellys BBQ & Burritos in East Petersburg. After the meal we walked (except Richard) across the street for a sweet treat of ice cream at Sons Ice Cream. Ruth Ann Greathouse

DISTRICT NEWS By Harold and Diane Jackson PA District Directors Last month we were wondering; where is summer? Well, we have had very hot weather and now many of us are getting more rain than the ground can handle. I hope everyone is safe and has been able to enjoy a ride between the rain drops. Chapters please be careful about cancelling rides. I know sometimes the weather forecast is 80% chance of rain or it is to be 89 degrees with 91% humidity and we need to think of our membership and do what is safe. But, sometimes we need to consider going on 4-wheels when possible due to bad weather conditions. Many times when a chapter starts cancelling too many events then membership will find non-gwrra functions to fill their calendar and get out of the habit of attending Chapter events. The Chapter will notice a decline in participation and the Chapter will need to reach out to their membership and encourage them to participate with the Chapter. Talk about an event that many people were concerned about due to the weather, All Chapters East was this weekend and we just walked into our home from attending. The weather was great. Our host was PA-B and we thank you for a weekend that was filled with a great ride, good food and FUN! Most of the chapters in PA were in attendance; thank you for participating. I am amazed and proud of PA District; it is great to see how many people have signed up to attend Wing Ding 40. Thank you to the volunteers that have signed up to sell tickets on Wednesday, August 29 th and thank you to the volunteers that are helping other Districts fill time slots. Hopefully, you have been reading your Wing World magazine and looking at the Wing Ding website to see all the rides, events, classes and vendors and take some time to participate. There have been additions to the PA District events calendar. Have you taken a look? Pies, Pies, Pies the District is having a ride-in to Dean s Diner in Blairsville, PA on Saturday, September 8 th at 2 pm for pie. The pies are homemade and they make 25 different kinds daily. So, please plan on riding to Blairsville and join us for pie. We will be there early to have lunch and enjoy a piece of pie with you. There are no reservations necessary however, if you or your chapter plan on attending, please let us know. Then we can give the diner an idea as to how many will be participating. The District Team had their fist planning for the 2019 PA District Rally, Ride of the Roses in York, PA on May 16-18, The Wyndham Garden York is taking reservations by calling press 0 for reservations in York and use code GWRRA. If you have any ideas or suggestions for the rally please let us know. Thank you for updating the events calendar on the district website. We knew there were events happening in the district that other chapters were unaware. Please keep it up and post your chapter events to the website. This is the best way to let everyone know what is happening in your chapter and getting people to come and join in the FUN! Remember to always ride safe! Harold and Diane Jackson Your PA District Directors
PA DISTRICT EDUCATOR CHUCK STONE Hi Folks: Summer is quickly coming to an end now and fall will soon be upon us, and the leaves will soon be starting to change color in our area. This brings with it both beauty and an added element of danger for the late season rider. We have all heard the standard warnings of WET LEAVES affecting traction. What appears to be missing is a recommendation on what to do if you encounter this situation. The second thing we will encounter this time of the year is RAIN. Haul out the raingear you ve stowed in a handy spot. Make sure your rain gloves and rain boots fit properly. Poorly fitted ones can lessen your ability to brake and shift. Be most cautious when it first starts to rain. That is when the water goes into all the dimples in the road, and the oil residue from passing vehicles floats to the top. That gets slippery! A wise motorcyclist will stop for a cup of coffee when it starts to rain; who knows, it could be all over in 15 minutes, and you won t even have to put on the rain suit. After a while the oil will be washed off to the side of the road. However, traction on a wet surface may not be as good as on a dry road. Be careful. The third thing we will encounter this time of the year is FOG. Cool mornings and evenings, after a warm day, tend to produce fog in what is referred to as low-lying areas. If you think you may have a chance of riding into a fog area, carry a small towel or soft water absorbing cloth in your jacket pocket where it is easy to get to. You may have to clean your windshield to see well. Slow down and if you think you are traveling too slow, run your hazard flashers. I have found that the lower running lights are a big plus for driving in fog.
CHUCK STONE cont In any of the above low traction situations, (sand, black ice, wet pavement, slippery leaves, etc.) the best advice is avoidance. Barring that, use a method of identification, prediction, and reaction to prepare for and successfully overcome obstacles such as those mentioned above. As your Chapter takes its last scheduled rides of the season, let us all think SAFETY, keeping the situations mentioned above in mind, and ending our riding season on a safe note. Ride Safe and Ride Proud. Chuck & Evelyn Stone PA DISTRICT EDUCATORS
