3 FROM JIM AND PATTI BURR CHAPTER DIRECTORS Greeting everyone July is here, and heat is on. We got some exciting stuff going on with the chapter this month and August is gearing up to be a busy one as well. First and foremost, we hope all of you will have a Happy 4 th of July with family and friends. We be spending it with some friends here call the Davish 10. There a group neighbors who pretty much met in the first 6 weeks, when we all moved in. We have been having BBQ s and get togethers throughout the spring and summer for the last 4 years. Two of them ride the other brand (Harley). I get ribbed all the time, but I ride much more that they do, and we know whose bike is better looking as well. Enjoy the day and have lots of fun in whatever you do. Just be safe Don t forget the first of each months Flag Maintenance at Fort Indiantown Gap. As Mike stated at the Gathering, if you have never taken part or haven t been to the cemetery, it is a moving experience. If interested, please get in contact with Mike Yavor. I have ordered the last round of Chapter Tee shirts. Will let you know when they arrive. All Chapter East is just over 4 weeks away. As stated at our last chapter Gathering we have 17 chapters represented and 117-chapter members across Pennsylvania and Maryland attending. We have 37 campers as of this writing. Deadline to Register for All Chapter East is July 14 th. We will not be able to take any reservations after that date. So, if you have not registered and sent in to Connie, please don t wait. The date will quickly arrive. Lancaster Honda, our sponsor for this event, has added Demo rides on a 2018 DCT Goldwing at All Chapter East. They have a tech session schedule for Saturday. They will be available the entire event to talk shop. They will handle demo ride sign up s so if you are interested in riding the new bike here s your opportunity. As you know we have a Dinner ride schedule for July 14 th. It was originally scheduled for Miller s in Lancaster. It has been changed. We will be going to Belly BBQ in East Petersburg. Look for more information and a sign up on our Web page. We have scheduled an open date for a ride on July 21 st. Have a suggestion for a ride, please get of hold of one of the rider coordinators. They can assist you in getting in planned and we can get it to Don for the web site. That is the only open date we have in July. August is shaping up to have 4 rides including a dinner ride. Saturday August 4 th we will be going to St Michael s Md for lunch and check out the small shops in the area. This ride will be an entire day. I will be leading this ride. Check the web site as I will have more information forthcoming. Friday/Sunday August 10 th to 12 th Backroads of PA. Jim Duff will be leading this ride. Look for his article and more information. Saturday August 18 th George and Kathy have another Dinner Ride planned. Saturday August 25 th after Gathering Brandywine Battlefield. This was the ride that was postpone after our June Gathering. Jim will be leading so look for this article and more information in his newsletter article. Please sign up as soon as rides are on the web site. Should be an enjoyable time and some great riding.

With All Chapters East coming up July it promises to be a busy and rewarding few days as Chapter B will come together to showcase Lancaster County and our hospitality. I know we will do a great job as we always do. Thank You to all who have committed time and or resources great or small to this great event! As Summer rolls along some are riding on two wheels or traveling in cars many places so please ride safe. When you are home again, keep an eye on the calendar and join the fun when possible. Ride Safe, Ron & Sandy SPRING FLING RECIPES By Sandy Spence Cake & Sauce Bake 1 Package yellow or Devil s Food cake mix or pudding included cake mix 2 Cups Water 1 package Chocolate Jell-o Instant pudding ( 4 or 6 servings) 1 1/2 Cups Milk 1/3 Cup sugar 1/4 to 1/2 tsp Cinnamon Prepare cake mix as directed on package. Pour batter into greased 9x13 pan. Set aside. Pour water & milk into a mixing bowl. Add pudding mix, sugar & cinnamon. Beat slowly until well blended. 1-2 minutes Pour over cake batter Bake at 350 for 1 hour or 325 for glass container until cake tester inserted in center of cake comes out clean Serve warm. July will be a Busy Month We still have two very special events left this year: (1) Chapter B is hosting this year s PA District s All Chapters East July 27 th to the 29th, much more to come on this super special event check the chapter website and (2) GWRRA s Annual Wing Ding in Knoxville August 28 th to September 1st, plan to attend, this is large rally in great riding country, information is available for this event on our website. No new members reported in June, however we have recently met Carl and Bonnie Esbenshade, they have been to several chapter events and have joined GWRRA as of this writing. Our Chapter B Family continues to grow. We are fortunate to have an active chapter and many willing volunteers. If you know a motorcyclist, any brand, invite them to a gathering, a chapter function or a chapter ride. That is the only way they can get a good look at us. We welcome all riders/co-riders to come enjoy our events and we promise a good time. In July, besides our Tuesdays for ice cream, there is a dinner ride on July 14 th and of course All Chapters East. Check the website for details. Our Roll for Dough participation is off to a very good start toward free chapter dues, which require 20 points. We are stalled at 19 points, and although it is not a competition, we are in first place and well ahead of 2 nd place (Chapter T has 13 points). We only need five members attending to get the point. We are getting more folks enjoying the fun of visiting other chapters and other districts,which is great. The more the merrier. Keep up the good work. Again, I would like to thank everyone for wearing their colors more frequently; I have been to several functions where the increase is noticeable. Chapter Pride is important when we are out as a group. We want everyone to know who we are so they can appreciate our safe riding and good behavior. Finally, I wish each of you a healthy, happy and safe riding season. Attend as many of our planned events for your Fun, Safety and Knowledge as you can. 6 UPCOMING RIDE JIM DUFF-RIDE COORDINATOR Do you love to ride those two lane Pennsylvania back roads in central and northern PA. Well this August is your chance to do just that. Following are the details of three days of riding I have planned for that weekend: Day 1 - Leaving from the Mt Joy Sheetz at Esbenshade Rd and East Main St at 9:30am. Travelling through Colebrook and Annville, and west on PA 443 and US 322 to Sheetz at 54 Benvenue Rd, Reed, PA for a stop (about 1 hr 20 min). We may add some riders at this stop. Next we will head north on 11&15 and take PA 104N to PA 192W where we will stop for lunch (about 1 hr). The lunch stop is a local bar that Larry Greathouse discovered when he broke down after the May 11th Stag Ride. No breakdowns this trip. From there we will head west on PA 192 to Center Hall and go north on PA 144 to Snow Shoe for a stop (about 1 hr 20 min). Final leg for day 1 is north on PA 144, 879W, 555W, 255S, 153S, I-80E for 8.7 miles to the Clearfield exit 120 (about 1hr 30min). Here we will stay at the Super 8, Clearfield Shawville Hwy, Clearfield, PA for the night. Day 1 is 229 miles and 5.25 hours of riding. We should be at the motel around 5pm and can make plans for dinner in the area. Day 2 - Leaving Super 8 at 8am heading west on I80 for 9 miles to exit 111, PA 153N, 255N, 555E to the Winslow Hill Elk Viewing Area (about 1 hr). Hopefully see some elk. Next stop is the Elk County Visitor Center in Benezette. Following this stop we will head west on PA 555 and 255N through St Marys to 219N and US 6E to Kinzua Bridge State Park and Skywalk (about 1 hr 20min). The next leg of the trip takes us over US 6E to the PA Grand Canyon at Wellsboro, PA (about 1hr 45min plus a lunch stop in Port Allegany on the way). After exploring the PA Grand Canyon area we will travel US 6E, PA 365E and 660E to the Microtel Inn & Suites at 90 Dorsett Heights, Mansfield, PA for the night (about 45 min). Day 2 is 192 miles and 4.5 hours of riding. Day 3 - Leaving around 8am, head east on US 6to PA 14S, 15/501S, I80 E exit 224, 54E, 487S, 61S, 125S, 209S, 325W, 443W, 934S to Funck s Restaurant near Indiantown Gap National Cemetery (158 miles about 4 hrs plus stops). Stops yet to be determined. Group may split to head home after lunch. Please make your own motel reservations and sign up on the website as soon as you know you plan to go. 16 DISTRICT NEWS By Harold and Diane Jackson PA District Directors Many of us have been wondering where is summer? I guess summer is here; as I write this article the temperature is 90 degrees. And guess what; summer is on time. The first day of summer is June 21 st. Happy 4 th of July to everyone! The 4 th of July is a celebration and often referred to as Independence Day. Thank you to our military and first responders that keep us safe so, we can enjoy our independence and freedom. We just attended All Chapters West. Thank you, PA-P, for hosting the event and for a job well done. The weekend had a great ride, good food and FUN! Those that attend had time for socializing and were able to sit around campfires. The weather cooperated and we had a dry weekend. For those that did not attend, hopefully, you will consider attending next year s All Chapters West or go to All Chapters East this year. If you are not signed up to attend All Chapters East, July th at the Old Mill Stream Campground, Lancaster, PA please contact Jim Burr payellowtrike@gmail.com. Our host chapter PA-B has a great weekend planned. Have you made plans to attend Wing Ding 40? It is the National Rally being held in Knoxville, TN. The last couple of years Wing Ding has been on the western half of the USA. Knoxville is a great area to visit, is a great area to ride and it is practically in our backyard. Pennsylvania has been selected to sell tickets on Wednesday, August 29 th at Wing Ding. We need a few more volunteers to fill time slots. There are many great rides and events listed; you and your chapter should consider attending an event that is listed. We have noticed there are not many events listed on the events calendar as there were at the beginning of the year. We know many chapters have FUN events and outings planned. Let s get your chapter events listed so everyone is aware as to what is happening in the district. It is important for all of us to remember that riding and socializing are an important part of chapter life. So, let s go ride! Remember to always ride safe! 17 PA DISTRICT EDUCATOR DOUG MOTTER Hi Everyone, I would like to change the topic this month. I recently encountered something that I have been teaching in CPR/First Aid courses. I want to share an experience about emotional consideration. I was at work recently and was called on my two-way radio to go to the main office for a medical emergency. As I started to enter the building, an individual came rushing out the door calling out that we needed an AED. I looked at him and told him that we have none. He claimed we did. So, I told him to check the building s lower level for one mounted on the wall. Meanwhile, I continued up a flight of stairs to the dispatch office. Upon entering, I found a number of people arguing about want to do for the gentleman lying on the floor. I interrupted the bickering and asked if anyone called 911. Then I started to check on the person on the floor. It was someone I had known for years. He looked up at me and said, Hi Doug. I asked for the room to be cleared so that he could be properly checked for a medical problem; I proceeded to evaluate his condition. While talking with him having him answer questions I realized that he was having a stroke. This is when I started to feel a little helpless. Here I am someone who has had many years of training and all I could do is sit beside him and comfort him until EMS arrived. After my co-worker was taken to the hospital, I started to feel sick and very disturbed. Realizing what was happening to me, I found one of the supervisors and asked him if we could talk. He was also feeling very emotional; he was the first one to arrive at the office to help. As one of my former CPR/First Aid students, he understood and shared my sense of powerlessness. We talked and it helped! Emotions are something that should not be ignored. Negative emotional responses may include: Feeling abandoned or helpless Recalling the event over and over Self-doubt or a feeling that you have not done something correctly Having difficulty concentrating Experiencing heaviness in the chest Suffering with an upset stomach Having difficulties sleeping or having nightmares

18 PA DISTRICT EDUCATOR DOUG MOTTER con t If you experience these or similar problems, you need to share your feelings. Talk to someone you can trust to listen without judgement. Get back to a normal routine as soon as possible. If the problems persist you may want to seek professional help. It is important to recognize - and properly react to - the emotions that may result following an emergency situation. Remember to be seen and have FUN getting there!
