After a long, hard and very wet winter, an air of optimisim about with the birds singing and some warmth to the day. Surely, we have turned the corner and cattle can now be turned out. With this in mind a bumper crop of store cattle with 478 on offer and some excellent results. Less cattle in the prime ring with 95 cows and 88 clean cattle with trade as bouyant as ever. 1,931 Sheep on offer today could not match last weeks unbelieveable results with trade back somewhat. Top price came from a run of 10 Blue Heifers (32-33 mnths) from PW & M Locker, Boylestone that topped at 188p ( 1112), 186p ( 1227), 180p ( 1087) etc. Top cow was a Red Limousin from James Bennett, Stockport at 170p ( 1275). 45 Black & White and ex dairy cows average 120.4p A superb trade with the best cows p. A really good seasonal entry in the store shed with purchasers from far and wide. Generally all the bigger/meated over 16 month old cattle a very strong trade regardless of type with several vendors leaving the ring towards 100 per head better off than they had hoped. The wet spring coupled to shortage of fodder in recent days sees the smaller stores a shade easier but no doubt the tide will turn again very quickly and Doctor Green will do his magic.
