1 BAKEWELL MARKET MONDAY 20 th AUGUST 2018 B&W Steers in the Store Section New Dual Purpose Pens in operation A busier day in advance of the Bank holiday next week, requiring the new dual purpose pens being pressed into use. Stock and buyers out in force with 757 Cattle and 2384 Sheep on offer. Ground conditions little changed and promised rain never quite as wet as anticipated. Nevertheless, fields are looking greener, the straw situation appears to not be as dire as it once looked and trade in the market is holding up well. In the Store and Breeding Cattle section 403 head looked very well sold, with new buyers operating and a good solid demand with notable highlights for the best Steers reached 1,190, Heifers 1,100 and Feeding Bulls 840. Anyone contemplating selling Store Cattle should take comfort from the level of trade at Bakewell. Things looked good in the Finished Cattle section with top figures of 230p and 1,624. A mixed sample of 51 Steers averaged 189.3p which gives a flavour of the trade. In the OTM and Feeding Cow department top figures were 176 pence and 1,624. The average pence which would be satisfactory bearing in mind the mixed quality of the entry. A good crop of 113 Calves with general comments that they were very dear, top figures Bulls 390 and Heifers 270. Turning to the Sheep section here were 1824 finished Lambs selling to 220p and per head. As far as averages are concerned the SQQ figure was 180.3p and somewhat unusually the overall was 181.3p, making one think hard about all the dire warnings of producing Lambs out of spec, a Look at last years statistics indicates that this week we are about 3 or 4 pence in front. Finally 538 Cull Sheep with Ewes to 114 and an average of
