1 Our Vision: Engaged and self-managing learners who interact positively in our community and have a desire to achieve excellence Newsletter 1st September 2017 E matahi ana e mataara Principal s message: Kia ora nga matua me nga whanau Open Night Firstly, I would like to thank the families of the 150 students who supported our school s very successful Open night on Tuesday, August 22. This evening had the largest attendance that I have seen at MIS and they seemed to really enjoy the 26 activities that were available for them to view. We really appreciated you dropping off and collecting your child at the correct times, especially if you had to park a long distance away from our school. We hope to have most of our enrolments for 2018 in by the end of this term which is Friday, September 29. Super Sport Soccer Our boys team claimed the Super Sport Soccer title (Dave Dale - the banner says Soccer ) on Wednesday, August 23 for the second year in a row with a comprehensive 6-nil win the final against Palmerston North Intermediate Normal. The team scored 22 goals and conceded only two in what was one of the most convincing performances since the Super Sport competition started in Chess Champions On the same day our chess team was also victorious, gaining first and second places in the teams section of the Wairarapa Chess Power Tournament at Opaki School as well as taking out 1st place (Jade Alves) and 2nd place (Bailey Crellin) and 3rd place (Marcin Bednarek) in the individual section. The team now qualifies for the Champions Trophy National Tournament in Hamilton at the end of October. Super Arts Culture On Wednesday, August 30, 70 students represented our school at the inaugural Super Arts Culture competition held at Ross Intermediate in Palmerston North. We performed 2 Samoan and 4 Maori items in our ten-minute bracket which was delivered with great energy and pride. It was also a very proud moment when the announcement was made that Masterton were the winners by two points. I would like to acknowledge the brilliant display from Pano Alataua who wowed the three judges with his presentation. In the WOW factor section (out of 10 marks) we received 9, 10 and 10. A fantastic effort and result for MIS.
2 Careers Expo The assistance that we received for our two-day Careers Expo next week on August 17 and 18 was also outstanding and a list of those businesses and individuals who contributed is included in this newsletter. I would like to extend my personal thanks to all of you. Tena koutou e tautoko mai nga akonga o te kura taka waenga nei.
