2 Dear Parents and Players, Hello to all our families and welcome to another season of Winter netball. We are into our season and all teams have settled into into training and match play. The Committee and I are thrilled to have 20 teams registered with JNA this year. This is a record for CNC (INC) We have introduced Aline Dresses for our U17 s. The design was a work in progress, ensuring we kept our history in the colours. The girls look very smart in them.

3 We thank all Coaches and Managers for volunteering their time. We appreciate the time you put into session plans and game days. CNC recently paid for 6 coaches to do the Foundation Coaching Course. For our athletes to develop we have to invest in our Coaches. Our new coaching shirts have been distributed and you are all looking fantastic in them. Thank you to Paula Miller (Ex CNC President and Coach) for volunteering her time to run back to the basics development sessions with our U8 s-u12 s. Our Pizza / Movie night was held on Saturday 24th May, a great night was had by all. Thank you to Currambine Primary School for allowing us to hold this event in their undercover area. & Decadance are holding a ladies only night on Friday 1st August A number of our CNC families have been affected by cancer, so part proceeds will be going to the Cancer Council WA. We would love to see all the ladies of CNC attend.

4 Congratulations Congratulations to the following Athletes who were selected to represent Joondalup Netball Association at the Smarter Than Smoking Association Carnival over the WA Day long weekend: Aleisha Hillier, Daney Bezhidenhout, Bianca Shepherd, Mia Smit, Kayla Walker, Sydney McMurdo, Zoe Hunt, Emily Scott, Georgia Shepherd, Taylor Smith, Chelsea-Rose Knott, Simone Brandsch, Tercia Deverneuil, Kelsey Harris, Nicola Sing, Holly Hunter, Olivia Hunter, Caitlin Smith JNA held their award night and we are proud to announce and congratulate the following CNC athletes: Aleish Hillier on winning JNA s Encouragement Award & Best Team Player - 12A Bianca Shepherd Coaches Award -12C Zoe Hunt Best Team Player - 14C Emily Scott Coaches Award 14B Holly Hunter Best Team Player 17A Caitlin Smith Best Team Player 17B CNC also took out Club Champion and the winner of that was Holly Hunter Big Congrats to coach Warren Deverneuil who coached JNA s 15A s, they won their grand final and were named JNA s Team of the year.

5 Team Updates Glory U8 s: The girls in Glory U8 s are really enjoying their first ever season of netball. They started the season with some tough competition, giving them a quick insight into the game. They held their head high after a couple of defeats and, with the guidance of our wonderful coach Nikki, went on to win their third game by an astonishing 18 goals. They are working well as a team, and most importantly having fun and making great friends. Best of luck for the season, Go Glory! Sonic U8 s: The girls have started the season with tremendous enthusiasm and dedication. Although the score sheet is not necessarily reflecting their improvement, it is obvious to all that a win is within our reach! Each girl has shown enormous improvement and together with Coach Leesa are working hard on the necessary skills to guarantee future success. We are all proud of the super SONIC effort they are displaying at both training sessions and at the games each Saturday. Vixens U9 s: Just wanted to say that our VIXENS are very excited to be involved in a great sport and enjoying playing as a team and making new friends. The girls have come a long way in a very short time and are looking forward to the rest of their netball journey. GO VIXENS... Mystics U9 s: This is the Mystics second year of netball with an unchanged team this year. The Mystics are a group of 9 girls who love the game and have learnt so much in a short space of time under the guidance of Coach Danielle Gilsenan and Assistant Coach Chelsea-Rose Knott two dedicated Coaches who both teach and inspire the girls. What a different start to the 2014 season they have had compared to last year when they went weeks without scoring a goal!!! The girls have won all of their games this year but what is most impressive is their passion for the game and watching all that they have learnt come together. They are a very well rounded team who have gained a true understanding not only of the game, but of the importance of teamwork. This is just the start of great things to come from this team. Watch out for the Mystics!!

6 Rage U10 s: The majority of players in team RAGE are new to the game this season. Most of the girls had never met each other. The girls are all showing potential and are fast developing into a great team. It will be a huge celebration when they win their first game. They play very well together and have made new friends. Jets U11 s: The start of the 2014 winter season for the Currambine Jets has been a quiet but steady one. As such we haven t played any actual matches but have attended three weeks of development training through the Joondalup Netball Association and a further two through. This will be the fourth and sadly last year that the girls have played together, as next year will be the first year of trials that the girls will have to undergo to qualify for a team. There has been a good attendance rate at practice sessions and the girls are significantly improved in the techniques and drills that they are practicing. We are looking forward with enthusiasm to our first match this Saturday and I m sure that the girls will be maturing in their play this season. - Lina - Coach All the girls have enjoyed the development training and they are looking forward to the new season. We have been a team for several years with our lovely coach Lina, who has the tough job of keeping our girls in check. Looking forward to a great season and them working as a team! GO JETS!!! Helen Team Manager Comets U11 s: The Comets season commenced with our first training session on the 27 March We welcomed back Mia, Amber, Grace and Tia, and extend a warm welcome to our new team members Lily, Gabriella, Jipsie, Samille and Ashleigh. It didn t take long for our girls to form a strong bond working together creating a positive environment, encouraging and supporting each other. We had the privilege taking part in JNA development training sessions held at HBF Arena (formerly Joondalup Arena). The training sessions commenced at the start of the Netball Winter Season on the 3 May 2014 and ran for three weeks. CNC also arranged for Paula Miller to lead special development workshops held over 2 training sessions (15 and 22 May 2014) for our U8 to U12. The training sessions were not disappointing; they were full of fun and enthusiasm. The Comets were introduced to new and exciting drills concentrating on footwork and agility as well as consolidating all the skills they had learnt in the weeks leading up to the development sessions. They had a ball. The girls were able to showcase their skills when they finally took to the court for their much anticipated first game on the 24 May Their enthusiasm and love for the game was evident and was reflected in the final score.

7 Later that evening the girls celebrated at the CNC pizza movie night held in Currambine Primary Schools under cover area. The girls had arranged to wear their onesies and had a wonderful time singing along with Elsa and Anna in Frozen. Rubies U11 s: What an amazing bunch of Girls we have in this team, who are not only committed to the game but to their teammates also. They are a pleasure to coach always rock up to training with big smiles and enthusiastic to see what Coach Pip and I have planned for the session. Wishing you all the very best girls for the season ahead, keep up the hard work at training and remember believe in yourselves you can do it! Love Coach Pip and Coach Cate :) :) :) Aces 12 s: The Aces are a newly formed team brought together through the grading process. This was the first year that CNC has graded their Under 12 s and the first year that they have not had to rotate their positions so there have been a lot of changes but the girls are all adapting and coming together as a team. It has been a slow start to the year but things are definitely looking up and the season ahead is looking a lot more positive from here on in. Coach Tracey Gordon has been working closely with the girls and determining their strengths. Under her guidance, the girls have been showing more and more of what they are capable of, individually and as a team, in each game. The Aces are looking forward to the rest of the year and hope to be a force to contend with. Watch this space!! Colts U12 s: The start of season 2014 for the Currambine Colts has been very positive. With the team starting from scratch and some of the girls only meeting each other for the first time this year, it was always going to be a little challenging at first. But to the girls credit they have formed some chemistry very quickly and have tasted success already this season. At this stage we have won two (one was a forfeit but we ll take that) and lost two, with one of those losses being a game we should have possibly won. The team has all the ingredients pace, height and skill to be successful this year, but that will depend on how hard we are willing to work at training. The girls have already demonstrated their commitment to the cause with nearly all girls being at all training sessions this year, even on a couple of evenings when the weather was less than inviting and obviously far too uncomfortable for some of our older Currambine teams Keep up the effort girls and we will have a rewarding and successful season. Force U17 s: Currambine Force: Have had a bad run of the luck for the beginning of this season, losing a few players to injuries, but we can feel our luck changing and hope to get a win under our belts soon!

If you have any Umpiring questions/feedback, please contact Bec Reminder: If you would like to take photo s of your daughter playing netball, you MUST obtain permission from both team coaches and the parents of any children who may be included in the photograph. Once permission is granted, please obtain an official badge from a JNA convener PRIOR to the commencement of the game. Photo s must not be uploaded to Social Media unless, permission is granted from all parties.

9 PHYSIOTHERAPY & NETBALL Physiotherapy and netball are synonymous especially at the start of the winter season. Why this occurs is that the girls partake in pre-season fitness training and of course after the long holiday break it is hard on the knees. Injuries occur most commonly to knees,ankles,fingers and wrists. Causes of injuries are thigh muscle weakness,poor techniques,player collisions,slips on poor surfaces,inadequate/worn shoes,tiredness and lack of proprioception(limb awareness). What can you do to minimise injury? - maintain your fitness in the holidays(eg. jogging) - ensure your shoes are in good condition - pay attention and apply good techniques in training and games - use ankle braces as preventative and proprioceptive guards ( - use strapping - see demo pictures newsletter August seek help sooner rather than later for a niggling injury. - if in doubt ask your local physiotherapist or your club physiotherapist Lina ( ) The integral part of being a star is having the will to win.
