Caring ~ Considerate ~ Cooperative ~ Courteous ~ Conscientious Langtoft Primary School Newsletter #120 Term 4/Friday 9 March 2018 THIS MONTH S FEATURED RIGHT: Article 19 You have the right to be protected from being hurt and mistreated, in body or mind. Dear Parents/Carers Thank you for attending Parent Consultation appointments this week. I trust that you found the time with your child/children s teacher to be informative. Please remember that you can approach your child/children s teacher (or me) whenever you need to: you do not have to wait for the next round of appointments. NEW ANTI-BULLYING POLICY The School Council have been reviewing the school s policy for anti-bullying with me. As part of the review, I asked them to find out which of the Articles from the UN Convention on Rights of the Child best matched our aim to have no bullying in our school. They agreed that Article 19 (at the top of this Newsletter) was the most appropriate. The School Council agreed on this definition for bullying: Bullying is the repeated physical or verbal harm to another person. It is not just a squabble or a fall-out. The School Council understands that bullying includes cyberbullying. The School Council agreed that is sometimes difficult for us (the school community) to know the difference between bullying and banter ; however, if an individual is upset by someone else s action, we should help to sort it out. Following a couple of incidents recently, I should like to draw your attention to this addition to the Anti-bullying Policy: Parents/carers should not accost a child/children in an attempt to deal with the issue. This is based on our aim to make school a safe and secure environment where children are free from harm. Parents/carers who do accost children on the playground may be denied access to the school site in the future. Our revised Anti-bullying Policy is now on our website. Follow this link.

NEW WORLD BOOK DAY It was great to see so creations in school yesterday for World Book Day. The children must have woken up really early that morning to be ready in time. Each class teacher had the difficult task of shortlisting just three from their class and then having to choose just one winner. I am glad I did not have to decide! Our final winners are pictured above. Thank you to the F.O.L.S. for donating a 5 book token to each winner. NEW Y3 MAHARANI S RESTAURANT VISIT As part of their curriculum learning about India and its culture, Y3 enjoyed a lunchtime visit to Maharani s Restaurant in Deeping St James. The children spent time in the restaurant s kitchen, making curries and naan bread. Each child made their own naan (which they were keen to eat as soon as they could) and helped to prepare three different curry dishes. Thank you to Muhammad Yaseen, Manager of the restaurant for inviting the children to his restaurant.

Mrs Howard presented a cheque on behalf of the Group to the School Council in assembly. We have agreed that the donation will be used to provide the children with a musical experience in school. NEW LANGTOFT FUN RUN 2018 Langtoft s Fun Run Secretary, Sue Archer writes: As you may be aware, the Langtoft Fun Run will take place on Sunday 6 May We'd like to thank Langtoft Primary School for its support of the School Team Challenge for many years; the only Primary School, we believe, to have entered teams every year that this part of the event has existed. This year we have decided to make some changes and regret

that there will no longer be a School Team Challenge. We are however introducing 6 new prizes as follows: 1st female Langtoft resident aged 4-7 years 1st male Langtoft resident aged 4-7 years 1st female Langtoft resident aged 8-11 years 1st male Langtoft resident aged 8-11 years 1st female Langtoft resident aged years 1st male Langtoft resident aged years We hope to see many Langtoft boys and girls taking part. If you wish for your child to be entered as an individual, please go to the Langtoft Fun Run website for further details and entry form: request DEADLINES AND NAMES We ask that reply slips and payments are returned by the deadline given on the letter. When returning slips and payments, please write on the front of the envelope your child s name and the event, for example, Y1 Tattershall Visit, Kick Off Soccer. Even if you have paid online, we still need the reply slip returning to school. This will really help the office staff provide as an efficient service as possible. Thank you. new CASHLESS FROM SEPTEMBER From September 2018 (the start of the new school year) we will only accept online payments and cheques as payment for school visits and events. We are also looking into ways in which you can give permission online without the need to complete and return a reply slip. This will really help with the issues arising in deadlines and names above. WELL DONE! Y3 CLASS ASSEMBLY Thank you to Y3 who presented an energetic and educational class assembly yesterday on the topic of India. The parents/carers in the audience were treated to snacks on arrival before being entertained with Bollywood-style dance routines. The A to Z of India was a great way to share with everyone the facts about the country they had learnt. Well done, Y3. Great job!

WELL DONE! LANGTOFT S GOT TALENT Our eleventh year of Langtoft s Got Talent was a great success with all of the children involved showing off their talents in front of an audience of over 160 people. Our youngest ever star was Leyla at four years old singing Baa Baa Black Sheep. Next year we would like to invite children who have to yet to be involved in the show, along with the more experienced performers. We look forward to seeing more talent grow through the school. The total raised was The photograph below was placed in the Stamford Mercury, Bourne Living Magazine and Discovering the Deepings magazine. Thank you to the staff (especially Mrs Leadbeater) who helped behind the scenes before, during and after the show and to governors and parents who supported during rehearsals and on the night: Mrs Ferdinand, Mrs Preston, Mrs Knowles and Mrs Goodson. REMINDER CLASS ASSEMBLIES I have pleasure in sharing with you the date of your child s Class Assembly this school year. A Class Assembly is a lovely way for the children to share with you their latest learning so we hope that you will be able to attend.

Each Class Assembly takes place in the school hall and starts at 9:15am (unless otherwise stated). Sadly we have to limit the number of guests per child to two. If you wish to video record your child, you must seek permission for this from the school office on the day of the assembly. Video recordings are for private home use only and should not be shared with others or uploaded onto social media sites. Class Date Y5 Thursday 3 May 2018 Y1 Thursday 7 June 2018 in church at 9.30am FS Thursday 12 July 2018 ROUND UP SPORTING COMPETITIONS AND FESTIVALS DANCE FESTIVAL: WEDNESDAY 7 FEBRUARY The children who attended Dani s Dance after school club were entered into the Agilitas Dance Festival at the South Holland Centre on Wednesday 7 February. The children performed their dance piece entitled The Toy Shop to other local primary schools. The children then enjoyed watching performances from the other schools, including some secondary schools, during the afternoon. Thank you to the Lincolnshire Free Press and Spalding Guardian for the photograph and Dani Allen from ican!dance for her choreography. SPORTSHALL ATHLETICS: TUESDAY 27 FEBRUARY And it s another round of gold medals for Langtoft children in the annual Agilitas Indoor Sportshall Athletics competition! A team of 12 children from Y5 and Y6 competed in two track and two field events each. It really was a team effort because every athlete s performance contributed towards the final score. Well done, Team Langtoft! I would like to thank the many, many children in Y5 and Y6 who came to the after-school club in preparation for the competition. Only one team could be entered so sadly I could not choose everyone. I am hoping that the Y5s that attended will try again next year.

REMINDER Y5 BOURNE GRAMMAR SCHOOL ROADSHOW Mr Maddox, Headteacher from Bourne Grammar School will be visiting our school on Thursday 26 April at 3.15pm to meet with Year 5 parents and children. The session will last approximately half an hour during which Mr Maddox will explain the selection and admission process for Bourne Grammar School. REMINDER STAFF-RUN LUNCHTIME AND AFTER-SCHOOL CLUBS After a delay (snow and parent consultation appointments), the staff-run lunchtime and afterschool clubs have now started for Terms 4 and 5. They will continue through to the end of Term 4, Wednesday 28 March and then continue into Term 5 (Monday 16 April to Friday 25 May). There is a good selection of clubs in this round and I am pleased with how many children are signing up and joining in. REMINDER P.E. KITS Please make sure that your child has their P.E. kit in school every day and that their kit is the correct one: navy blue T-shirt (embroidered with logo), navy blues shorts and trainers or plimsolls (Key Stage 1 only). Key Stage 2 will have P.E. lessons outside whenever possible so we recommend navy blue jogging bottoms and navy blue sweatshirts to provide warmth. Variations of this are unacceptable. Thank you for your help with this matter. THANK YOU SCHOOL UNIFORM Thank you for your positive response to the ParentMail message I sent out a couple of weeks regarding school uniform. Since then we have plain socks, black shoes (no trainers), nail varnish-free fingernails and minimum hair accessories! Wishing you a happy Mother s Day! Yours faithfully Mr J McCullough Headteacher
