2 Welcome to the Indoor Kickball Season! T he indoor season kicked off in true NAKID fashion last week with plenty of chaos at the games, and drinking, dancing, and flipping at the bar. Thank you to everyone for following the guidelines for the Y and helping ease the congestion around the courts. A special thank you to the captains for organizing your teams, explaining the rules, and allowing the games to run smoothly. Here is a quick reminder about the rules: READ THEM! There are many new, unusual rules designed to make indoor a crazy, fun, fast-paced game, but they also can be very confusing. These rules can help your team s chances if you know how to exploit them, or hurt your team if you don t take advantage. In this week s Ask NAKID section we answer some of the most asked questions in an effort to ease the transition into this wacky game. Captains need to especially make sure they read the rules, because if you argue a call based on outdoor rules, but the ref is clearly correct, everyone is going to laugh at you. Really hard. Also read on for a recap of the Kickoff Party and the games, this week s schedule, and learn what color each team is so you can find them at the Y. See you Thursday, and here s to a great season! 3 ASKNAKID? Each week we will provide the answers to your most burning questions. Best one of the week wins a free pitcher of beer. Please send questions to nakid2006@gmail.com. kicking a ball backward on Court 2 into Court 1. The reason for this rule is so that no one on the other court gets hit directly with a ball that they are not looking for and because we only have 45 minutes for each game. If we allow people to kick the ball into the other field people will try to do it. In short, don t be a douche; just kick the ball and run you should get on base half the time anyway! How should my team get? on and off the field or ready to kick when it s our turn? There are two doorways for each court; each team gets one, genius. Last week a couple of teams tried to squeeze in and out of one opening and that just creates a logjam and problems. We know you want to see the game and we know you want to get out there, but help a brotha out. Court 1 has openings right at the first hallway use them if you are on that court. Court 2 has openings at the second hallway each team should use one. If you want to watch the whole game you could always hang out on the 7th floor at the track and swing down like a pirate on a rope when it s your turn to kick. Wait scratch that we can already see the Xtacles and Monkeywallers planning to actually do it. What is the deal with? kicking the ball into the other court? It can and will happen, and most of the time you d better chase that mother down. Any ball that lands in the other court is considered a live ball unless that ball was kicked directly into the other court. We know, that didn t help you at all. If you are playing on Court 1 and you kick the ball so that it goes directly into Court 2 without hitting a wall, divider, ceiling, etc. it is a strike. The same for Why do I have to leave? my stuff on a different floor instead of just putting it in the hallway? Because that s what the YMCA wants. Happy? Okay, then let s think about it. Based on last year s experience we had roughly people per team per game leaving their junk in the hallways while playing. This led to lots of piles of stuff everywhere, lots of people trying to find their stuff after games while lots of other people playing in the next game were setting their stuff down, and people everywhere with stuff getting lost or left in the process. In short, a mess. This season it s pretty simple: if you have stuff you need to leave it in a locker on the second floor. If you want to watch games before your game you can head to the 7th floor. Just stay off of the 5th floor until game time and for Pete s sake leave your legwarmers and lunchbox in your locker. NAKID - Indoor December 16,

4 What is this thing I hear about catching a ball and kicking it away if someone throws it at me? According to Rule NAKID X Section 2, Subsection b: Fielders may hit players with the ball to tag the out. However, runners may catch the ball to avoid being out. If caught the ball must immediately be kicked away by the runner. If the newly kicked ball is caught in the air, the runner is out. So yes, you can do this. Most people forget about this rule during the game but it is completely legal to do this. The caveat is that the ball has to be thrown at you in an effort to hit you to cause you to be out. If a ball is thrown to a fielder at a base and you intercept it, you are out. If a ball is being thrown at another player and you get in the way and catch it, you are out. This rule is put in to make the game more fun and because there is a limited amount of space the newly kicked ball can travel. Just don t be a douche about it. NAKID - Indoor December 16,

Someone who knows their limits but chooses to ignore them; who ends up with an hilarious story at the end of the night (passing out in front of a police station, e.g.); or who entertains the masses with her drunken antics is in the running for NAKID Lush of the Week! This season LOTWs get not only the coveted NAKID Lush patch to proudly display on their shirt (or anywhere else they want), but they also win 2 passes on the Boomerang Bus! It will cost returning NAKIDs just $39 if you use the same address as last season and sign up within the first week. After the first week it increases to $52. That s $39 for EACH chapter that you sign up for in the first week. We will have chapters Sunday through Thursday, so there are plenty of chances to Play NAKID! NAKID - Indoor December 16,

7 NAKID Indoor Kickoff Party! Some snow, some flip cup, and lots of beer helped to kickoff the NAKID 2008 Indoor season at My Brother s Place. We had more than 200 NAKIDs and friends show up to dance and flip the night away. A few teams like the Xtacles and Monkeywallers had a great turnout but no one beat a team that s not even playing indoor THAT Team, a NAKID stalwart of partying in the fall and spring, had no fewer than 14 members at the party! That s some dedication to the cause (of course when the cause is beer and dancing you can always count on them). As always, lots of hookups were spied on the dance floor, including one couple that seriously needed to get a room. As the night wore on we drew the winner for the Wii congrats to Kelly from Where My Pitches At? and started our usual bar dancing contest. We started with five dancers and as we got down to the final two clothes almost came off but at least both were left wet and panting. Corey of THAT Team came away as the winner, with Chelsey, who plays with Formerly Lookin To Score, taking home second place. All in all it was a great start to the season and we look forward to great times at the bar and a CRAZY mid-season party. NAKID - Indoor December 16,

9 Game RECAPS The Weekly Brew Winter Week 1 The DMGs proved that new teams can take on veteran squads and win as they took down Drinking You Pretty At the same time Weapons of Mass Seduction beat Just the Tip in a squeaker 9-8. The 7:15 games had Jolly Blue Balls winning against an undermanned Jingle Hoos team Our defending champs, Where s Your Beanpot? took it to Too Hungover for a Quickie with the largest win of the night, Where My Pitches At? came back to beat the Xtacles while Kickstart My Heart beat Chaos in a Box 8-5 in a low scoring game for indoor. In the final set of games the Monkeywallers and Frozen Ballers played a great game that came down to the wire with the wallers winning Meantime on Court 2, Chaos in a Box avenged for their earlier loss by crushing Formerly Lookin to Score by a final of This week we will have shirts and just so everyone is aware, a week was added to the end of the season to make up for the first week when we could not play. 10 See in NAKID, it goes like this: #1 Flip Cup; #2 Drunkball. We will do standings if we have more than three teams playing drunkball this week. Otherwise, we will replace them with something else. For rules on drunkball go to TThere are no standings this week, so here are the NAKID rules on official flip cup games: 6v6, no backboards, best of 7, no subs during these games. That s it. 10 v 10 games don t count, so keep those to a minimum. If you lose, you leave the table. If you refuse, your team will be last. In the tournament there will be a no-spillage rule and beer will be measured, so you can play now however you like but keep that in mind. For NAKID veterans: Please keep in mind that flip cup is supposed to be FUN. We know that you play it like it s your job and thus are the best but don t get upset at new people for talking in between rounds or losing focus when drunk. It s a game!
