Die twee oorde word nie genoem om hulle te adverteer nie, maar bloot omdat hulle as voorbeelde gebruik word van goeie, gesonde bestuur.

Sommige hengeloorde is egter meer gewild as ander en dit moet om n sekere rede wees. Stywe Lyne se medewerker, Danie Engelbrecht, het n paar hengeloorde besoek en hy lig vandeesmaand twee van hulle uit (sien Volgens Danie sal hy hierdie twee oorde met vrymoedigheid dikwels weer besoek. Die twee oorde word nie genoem om hulle te adverteer nie, maar bloot omdat hulle as voorbeelde gebruik word van goeie, gesonde bestuur. Albei oorde word mooi versorg en daar is baie moeite gedoen om booswigte uit te hou. Die gras word kort gesny, hiasinte gereeld uitgehaal, daar is beheerde toegang en die ablusiegeriewe is netjies en skoon. Danie fokus dan ook omvattend in sy artikel op die taak van die oewereienaar. Hy noem egter ook in dieselfde asem dat hengelaars op hul beurt moet sorg dat hulle nie die terrein bemors nie. Onthou dat dit n voorreg is om op n ander mens se eiendom te mag hengel. Wedersydse respek sal dit vir almal makliker maak. Danie dink ook dit is hengelaars se plig om oordeienaars in te lig oor wat verkeerd is en waar hulle kan verbeter, en eienaars behoort na regverdige kritiek te luister. Hoe meer aanvaarbaar n oord is, hoe meer hengelaars sal dit lok. Hoe meer hengelaars, hoe groter die oord se inkomste. Dit is so eenvoudig soos dit Hou daardie lyne styf! Both resorts are well maintained and the owners have gone to a lot of trouble to keep intruders at bay. The grass is cut short, water hyacinth is removed regularly, there is access control and the ablution facilities are tidy and clean. In his article, Danie focuses on the role of the resort owner. However, he also emphasises that from their side, anglers should take care not to litter when visiting there. Remember, it is a privilege to be allowed to fish on someone else s property. Mutual respect will make things easier for all involved. Danie also believes that anglers have an obligation to inform resort owners about shortcomings and suggest improvements, and that owners should take note of fair criticism. The more acceptable a resort is, the more anglers it will draw. More anglers mean a bigger income. It is as simple as that Keep those lines tight! No surprise it s on over 600 issues already! Over the past year, I have tried numerous baits to catch barbel and carp in the Western Cape. The three most successful out-of-the-ordinary baits that have yielded the best results are: Sunlight soap bar: Due to its hard consistency and strong smell this bait is a formidable opponent for any unsuspecting catfish. The bait itself is very hard-wearing and in fact just a small piece of one bar is good enough for more than a three-hour session before re-baiting. You can cheat and pour a little Sunlight liquid onto the tired piece on the hook to enhance the flavour once more in the same way you would dip your bomb in FX or Bunspice for carp. The best part of this bait is that it is very cheap, easy to pack and lasts for ages. An added plus is that your tackle box will smell much better than the standard baits for the species, such as chicken livers or day-old chicks; something my wife loves while on our camping trips. Rye bread soaked in peanut oil: Catfish love peanut oil and would never suspect that the very same bait that gets them hooked will be used later to cook them with! The rye bread should be almost stale and should be soaked in the peanut oil for about six hours. Fresh bread will be too soft and will not bind well. Measurement will depend on how long you are going to fish for and water temperature. Normally, I add about four slices of bread to about 250 ml of peanut oil and about 100 ml of warm water. The bread should then be removed from the mix and kept in a sandwich bag in the fridge for the next day to let it keep. In winter I use about 400 ml of the peanut oil to make the flavour a bit stronger. As we all know, the stronger flavours work best in the winter months and the sweeter ones better in summer. This bait is very versatile and easy to rig. I have caught kurper, carp and catfish on it. winning letter WENBRIEF Chickpeas: This bait must not be underestimated! Straight out of the can, this is one of the best baits out there. Again it is cheap and easy to find. Big river carp and barbel like those found in the Breede and Berg River in the Cape cannot resist them! Here are some pictures of the results. The 2014 show was well a ended and this year saw many new exci ng products! C1 D2 Tackle Traders (Halco South Africa) was fortunate enough to have Tim Carter, the Marke ng and Product Development Manager from Halco Australia, there to launch the exci ng new Halco C-Gar weighted s ck bait. Tim enjoyed the show immensely and had the following to say, The South African market is extremely important to Halco. We have seen many of our major clients here at the show and the new C-Gar has been well received by all who have seen it. South Africa is blessed with many varied fishing opportunities, which will allow us to continue to develop our market here for many years to come. We also have a number of exciting new products on the drawing board, so just watch this space! The Halco C-Gar was one of the highlights of the 2014 SAFTAD show. Already voted Best Hard-bodied Lure at this year s Australian trade show, the C-Gar was bound to stir up much attention. Weighing 40 g and measuring 120 mm in length, this is a very versatile lure. The list of saltwater species that the C-Gar can tame is endless and includes tuna, couta, dorado, kingfish and garrick. This lure has also found a place in the tigerfish market. Catching tigerfish on the surface is relatively new. The C-Gar can be fished on the surface as well as subsurface. Another product that attracted attention at the C1 D2 Tackle Traders stand was the Decoy range of hooks. Decoy is becoming a well-known international brand. This year saw Decoy expand their range in South Africa. The original Japanese manufactured Js-1 in-line hook from Decoy is now available in sizes 1/0 through to 8/0. The hook s light weight and in-line design makes it the ideal hook for replacing trebles on lures.
