11 11 Course News: Putting green maintenance We have resurfaced half of the putting green with Mini-Verde Bermuda grass, using a sprigging process that we plan to utilize for the future resurfacing of greens complexes on the golf course. This will provide us with first-hand knowledge and much useful information, such as: 1. Expected time frame for resurfacing from the beginning of the project, to the point when we can expect to open the green back up for use. 2. The expected condition of the greens surface that Mini-Verde grass will provide once grow in occurs. 3. Expectations of how Mini-Verde grass will thrive in our soil and in our specific environment, prior to resurfacing all greens on the golf course. The resurfacing of the putting green consisted of stripping the sod on half of the green, applying chemicals to the soil for sterilization (which resulted in the closing of the entire putting green for approximately 1 week), refloating the contours of the green with approximately 4 inches of USGA specified greens soil mix and sprigging the surface with Mini-Verde bermuda grass for grow-in. The green will now be heavily watered until the growin is complete, so please be aware that the sprinklers may come on as they are set on timers. It is very important that we keep people off of the resurfaced side of the putting green until we reopen it for play. The expectation is to reopen the entire putting green in late August. cart path bridges repair We will also begin a maintenance project to repair the cart path bridges located on holes #17 and #18. Over the 20 years since the course was built, the timbers on these two bridges have deteriorated due to their direct exposure to the elements. Our plan is to remove the old, damaged wood and replaced them with new, treated lumber. The project is planned for early morning hours to minimize the effect to regular play. However, we may have to re-route or close portions of those holes during the project. We appreciate your cooperation and apologize for any inconvenience. Gordon Williams Golf Course Superintendant coosaw creek country club Walking/riding Policy reminder 1. All walkers are expected to walk the entire golf course. Walkers who are found standing on the back of a cart or riding in the cart at anytime during their round will be charged a cart fee for their round. 2. Members will be required to use a golf cart for all tournament rounds (except Club Championship & Senior Club Championship). coosaw creek country club Pace of Play Policy In an effort to improve the enjoyment of the round for all of our members and guests, please make sure to follow our pace of play policy. 1.Any groups playing with 2 players or singles on weekends and holidays until 10am, will be paired up with other groups when possible. This may require a delay to the start of play from the reserved tee-time. At the discretion of the golf shop staff and based on availability, groups with 2 players or less may be allowed to play but are expected to hold their position on the golf course, directly behind the group in front of them. 2.The expected pace of play at Coosaw Creek is 4 hours and 15 minutes. All play starting before 10am on weekends and holidays is expected to maintain this pace of play. A group out of position will be notified that they are out of position. If that group fails to regain their position on the course, the group will be directed to skip forward to regain their position. Any groups who fail to finish their round of golf within the expected pace of play will not be permitted to play in the members only teetime block on weekends and holidays. We hope that these policies will help increase the life and reduce the maintenance needs of our golf cars, as well as improve the pace of play and enjoyment of the round during our peak play times.

12 12 The format will be a 9-hole modified stableford. We will be pro-rating handicaps and then adjusting the points up or down each week as the summer progresses. Since we are playing on Wednesdays, the bar will remain open for beverages after play. So plan now, get your $5 ready and come out to enjoy the beautiful Charleston evenings. For more information contact Dick Shaw ( ) or the golf shop. LEagUE PLaY Coosaw Creek will be hosting outside league play every Tuesday and Thursday beginning at 3pm. Please make a note of the increased course usage on these days as tee-times will become more difficult to obtain. madison S instructional corner One of the most common mistakes I see players make today is having too much hand action with their pitch shots around the green. When you over utilize your hands and wrists you will lose feel and control of the club. If you can minimize hand and wrist action in the short game, you will see more consistency with ball flight providing you with the necessary distance control required to score well. The key to focus on is feeling your body rotating around your left leg, and making sure to rotate your chest toward the target, allowing the rotation of your torso to pull your arms and club through to the target. A good drill to help you with this feeling is to place a towel under your armpits and make sure it stays there throughout the whole swing. This will keep your arms out of the shot and force you to make a swing with the core and body instead of with your hands. If you want to change the loft or spin of your pitch shots, you simply need to adjust the clubface and ball position. VaNdaLiSm WiThiN ThE community COOSAW CREEK IS A ZERO TOLERANCE COMMUNITY WITH REGARD TO ACTS OF VANDALISM. ANYONE FOUND VANDALIZING PROPERTY WITHIN COOSAW CREEK WILL BE PROSECUTED TO THE FULLEST EXTENT OF THE LAW, WITHOUT REGARD TO THEIR AGE. Due to the increase of occurrences of vandalism within the community and the Club during summer months, the Club and HOA will be working together to increase security patrols by staff, off duty police officers and North Charleston Police. Specific areas that will have increased monitoring and surveillance include the playground, pool, tennis & basketballs courts and Club house, as well as routine golf course patrols. New web based surveillance cameras have also been installed at the pool and the playground to help identify anyone involved in suspicious and/or illegal activity at the Club. ALL PLAYERS MUST REGISTER IN THE GOLF SHOP PRIOR TO STARTING PLAY. Anyone found on the course, playing or practicing without checking in will be charged the full golf rate for a first offense. Second offenses will result in prosecution for trespassing. Please help us by notifying the North Charleston Police if any suspicious activity is witnessed within the community or on Club property.

I am a junior in college attending the University of Mississippi and pursuing a degree in biology and classical studies. I have been playing tennis for almost eight years now and I love the sport. I have had the pleasure of playing under coach Heinz Maurer (former Coosaw Creek Tennis Instructor) at Pinewood Prep for 4 years, winning one state championship and making it to playoffs yearly. I also took 3 years of private lessons with coach Heinz, developing my game to the point it is at now. While in high school I played both varsity tennis as well as USTA tournaments, securing a state ranking. I now teach clinics and private lessons during the school year at the University of Mississippi, as well as playing for the Ole Miss club tennis team. I also recently attended a USPTA convention in Mt. Pleasant, learning new teaching skills and techniques.
