MARCH 2017 Greetings, A long time member, Joel Carter, enjoyed a round of golf on Friday, the 17th of February in 70 degree weather.

The management team and I have worked together to create the Oakwood Staff Mission Statement listed below.

Oakwood Staff Mission Statement The Oakwood Management Team & Staff will closely work with the Board of Directors and Committees to develop a culture of a high-quality country club experience.

1 MARCH 2017 Greetings, A long time member, Joel Carter, enjoyed a round of golf on Friday, the 17th of February in 70 degree weather. That in itself is remarkable but what makes it even more special is he shared with me the fact that he had skied the day before in Andalusia. Welcome to a wacky Mid-West Winter! The management team and I have worked together to create the Oakwood Staff Mission Statement listed below. It is always our goal to provide you with exceptional service on a consistent basis with the resources available to us at the best value in the Quad Cities. Oakwood Staff Mission Statement The Oakwood Management Team & Staff will closely work with the Board of Directors and Committees to develop a culture of a high-quality country club experience. At a great value, to our members and their guests, we will create a personalized sense of belonging at their home away from home. The first of the three VIP Dinners was held on the 24 th of February. Those in attendance were extremely happy with the food and service and the board members did a wonderful job of communicating what a great Club we have at Oakwood. The next two dinners will be held on March 11 th, and April 1 st. Please check your invitations and make plans to attend. You will be glad you did. If you are a Golf member and have a prospective member in mind we would be happy to provide you with a voucher redeemable for a round of golf with cart and dinner. This applies for a single person or couple. This is a great way to showcase your club and help build the Oakwood Community. Social members are able to obtain a voucher for a complimentary dinner for prospective members. Please contact me for details and to obtain a voucher. This month we are featuring Fish Fry Fridays. Along with hand battered cod we will be offering a weekly seafood option at a great price. Bring your family and friends to enjoy the evening. The Grand Seafood Buffet will be held on the 24 th of March. There will be a variety of wonderful entrees as well as carved prime rib. St. Patrick s Day and Corned Beef. Need I say more As always, if there is anything that we can do for you, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are always happy to help. New Assistant Golf Professional Michael Becker It is with great pleasure that I would like to introduce Michael Becker to the Oakwood Country Club staff. Michael is a native of Davenport and attended St. Ambrose University where he graduated with a double major in Exercise Science and Human Performance & Fitness. Michael has previously held positions on the golf operations staffs at both Short Hills CC & Davenport CC. I am excited to have Michael as a part of our team, and I know he is looking forward to meeting the membership as we start the 2017 season. Make sure to stop in the golf shop the next time you are out at the club to introduce yourself. 6

7 Driver Hot List Callaway Fusion Driver The key to making an easy-to-hit driver is finding ways to mix lighter materials with heavier ones. The weight saved can be moved to the perimeter for better forgiveness. Callaway has done that with a driver whose shape comprises multiple pieces of light carbon composite, including a crown made from a material that s 65-percent lighter than titanium. In fact, aside from the flexible titanium face, the driver s body is skeletal sections of titanium connected by carbon-composite panels. It makes for the most stable driver in Callaway s history. Callaway Epic Driver Callaway believes a flexible face isn t enough. Adding structural stability allows the face to be thinner and concentrates that flexing across a wider area. So inside the head, two bars stretch from the crown to the sole. The extra stability makes for a face that s 20-percent thinner and more flexible than before. The two models use a titanium frame with carbon-composite panels above and below. The standard version offers a sliding rear weight to address slices and hooks, and the Sub Zero s two weights optimize ball spin. It s Callaway s most intriguing driver in two decades. Ping G Driver All three models (the neutral G, the anti-slice SF Tec and the low-spin LS Tec) are big drivers, but they also have little features that make them play large. Touches like a thin crown modeled on a dragonfly s wings save weight that s pushed low and deep for less spin and more forgiveness. These are the most stable drivers Ping has ever offered. Taylormade M1 Driver The second generation of golf s most adjustable driver might look like the original with its T-track of sliding weights that tweak shots vertically and horizontally. But look again. Always a force in our Innovation category, there s now a lighter titanium alloy in the body, and half the sole and most of the crown is weight-saving carbon composite. All this means TaylorMade can position more mass low and deep so mishits lose less speed, and all shots launch with less spin. The center track now extends almost a halfinch longer and with a heavier weight. The result is nearly 5,800 settings on each head, 132 percent more than last year. Taylormade M2 Driver Bad things can happen with ultra-forgiving drivers. Either they look and sound hollow and cheap, or worse, by pushing weight to the extremes, the center of gravity relocates upward, resulting in too much ball spin. M2 combats those problems with a weight-saving, carbon-composite crown on top and a reconfigured internal geometry. This provides forgiveness and keeps the CG low. Of course, they didn t forget about power: A sleeker slot in the sole deflects three times as much as before. Titleist 917 D2/D3 A driver with movable weight is almost as common nowadays as a tour player with a logo on the sleeve. But the weight slug on the sole here is different. The cylinder comes in two forms: a neutral version and a top-heavy version. The neutral version keeps the weight low and deep to maximize forgiveness. The top-heavy version keeps that weight back, but it can be flipped so there's more mass toward the heel or toe to control direction. Best of all, the 917 drivers accomplish this weighting jujitsu without touching the classic look, sound and feel of a Titleist driver. 7

The Ladies Organization warmly welcomes our new Assistant Golf Professional Michael Becker. If you have a minute, stop by the golf shop and introduce yourself. We would also like to wish Andrew good luck in his next adventure as Assistant Golf Professional at Peoria Country Club. And also congratulations to Eric and his wife Jordan on the birth of their baby girl Nora born in January. The 2017 Ladies Brochure will be available soon so be looking for it in the entrance area of the golf bar and on the Oakwood website (oakwoodgolf.org). Both Bridge and Euchre are still being played on Thursday so come out and catch up with friends and have lunch. Stay healthy and hope to see you at the club. 16 Saturday, April 8 Come out & play your normal game on Saturday, but before you tee it up, sign up for a fun, new event! Play with Pro series allows you to play on a team with a PGA Tour Player! You will be randomly drawn a PGA Tour Player that has made the cut at the Masters before your round. You will then play that day and turn in net score to the golf shop at the end of your round. Once the round is complete, it s time to sit back and cheer on your Pro that weekend. We ll take your net score and add it to the PGA Tour Players weekend scores to come up with a team total.
