2 President s Letter As the new Oakwood Board President, I want to introduce myself. My name is John Golden. My wife, Nina, and I have been members of Oakwood since We ve always been proud of our Oakwood membership, and have utilized the club for many events. We are both average golfers, but all three of our sons learned to play golf at Oakwood. Over the years I have come to know many of you and I am looking forward to meeting more of you. To start with, I want to thank John Timmer, our past president for the leadership he has shown, and it is my honor to succeed him. I would also like to thank Tres Gomez for his years of service as his term ended this year. I would like to welcome Steve McCann and Pryce Boeye to the Board and look forward to working with them. Those of you that attended the Annual Membership meeting know that this is a pivotal year for Oakwood. We are embarking on a new membership drive, and there are significant incentives for both the new members and their sponsors. This is your club! In order for us to pursue some of the initiatives we are proposing, we need new members and the revenue they generate. We want you to be proud of your Oakwood membership and share that enthusiasm with your friends and business associates. I hope you have had the chance to experience the gastronomic magic of our new Culinary team. Executive Chef Charles Reed and Sous Chef Mark Thompson bring together over 50 years of combined Chef experience. Those who attended the Easter Brunch, the Lobsterfest, or the Ladies Spring Dinner know what I am talking about. Their menu innovation, presentation, and in house pastry will give you a reason to think of nowhere else for your meals with friends and family. Finally, the temperatures have warmed up and the fairways are becoming greener. Golf season has begun at last. Come on out and enjoy our fabulous course, and see the changes that Troy and his staff have created to improve your golfing experience. Also, visit your Club Pro Shop for the latest golf items. Eric and Allen can set you up with new clubs or apparel and they are also available for lessons. So, come on out to Oakwood. It s where you belong!
3 Greetings, That was the longest January ever! Now it s time to relax and enjoy the weather and your Club. The staff & I are looking forward to another great season and are anxious to get the party started. There are several events this month as well as the opening of the pool. Don t forget TGI Oakwood every Friday and half price bottles of wine on Saturday s. Be sure to check your s for scheduled entertainment and dining features. Angie does a wonderful job on the newsletter and communication and we hope that you keep up on all that is happening at Oakwood. Be sure to make your reservations early for Mother s Day. Chef Charles will prepare a remarkable buffet served from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Eric has stocked the Pro Shop with the latest and greatest merchandise available and is always happy to provide you with your golfing needs. In case you didn t know we will match any price on clubs. It is one of the benefits of being a member and the Pro s are available to fit you with the right sticks for your game. You, the members, are our greatest marketing tool. The staff and I are here to facilitate your efforts. As much as we would like to help recruit, it is your peer group that are our best leads. The membership plan that is now in place is one of the best ever for existing members, new members, and Oakwood! I would like to personally thank John Timmer for his past leadership on the Board and his efforts to keep Oakwood the most viable option for club membership in the Quad Cities. There has been much accomplished during his tenure and I am sure he will continue to assist in any way possible as a current Board member. Also, a thank you to Tres Gomez for his service to Oakwood. His work with the revitalization of the Men s Member Guest have provided the Club with a premier event that everyone can be proud of. I am looking forward to working with your new Board President John Golden and new Board members Steve McCann and P.T. Boeye. The entire board is dedicated to continually improving your club and providing an exceptional experience at an extremely reasonable cost to the membership. If there is anything that we can do for you or if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to let me know. See you around the Club, Mark

Ideally you want the club to be parallel to your alignment when it reaches hip high on the backswing. The pictures below are a drill in which you can use to help keep the club on plane going back. 1. Start in your normal posture with your backside against the wall. 2. When the club reaches hip high the club should be parallel to your hips, feet, shoulders & the wall. 3. The clubhead should touch the wall at about hallway back. 4. If the club hits the wall closer to your hip, you are taking the club back too far inside. 5. If the club misses the wall completely, you are taking the club back too far outside. (not pictured) #1 #2 #3 #4 Click Here to Watch This On-Line Lesson!
