2 Is it just me, or does it feel like the summer is just flying by. Here we are in July, 4th of July is upon us, and I hope you have had the chance to enjoy your club so far this summer. Although we ve had a fair share of rain, the course remains in excellent shape. The Board of Directors and Managers continually strive to provide the best experience for you and your friends at Oakwood. The crystal-clear, refreshing waters of our pool are there for you on those hot sunny days. The golf course is in pristine shape, and I hope you have had a chance to play more rounds than I have this summer. This month promises a variety of activities from the pool, to the divorce open, to the summer celebration with the fireworks. Remember, you do not have to participate in the divorce open to enjoy the summer celebration and the fireworks. Whenever you enjoy Oakwood, think about a friend with whom you would like to share the Oakwood experience. Remember that our membership drive with the discount initiation fee ends July 31. That is not to say that you cannot invite your friends to be members after July 31, but why wait, when they can get the advantage of the discounted initiation fee? So, come on out to Oakwood, enjoy yourselves, have a cool beverage in the golf bar, or out on the patio. Remember to thank your wait staff, as they are doing their best to provide the best experience for you. WOW! Both are perfect and ready for you to enjoy. And while you are at it there is still time to bring your friends out to experience your favorite spot to relax. There is one month left to take advantage of the terrific membership offer and reap the benefits of recruiting new members. You, our members, are our best resource to spread the word. If you need assistance, I am always available to lend a hand. Chef Mark and his team have been gradually adding new items to the menu. My favorites are the Street Tacos and the Bourbon Boil. I am surprised more of you have not been out on Saturday s for Half Price Bottle Night. If you enjoy the grape, you certainly won t be disappointed with the selections on the list. I have had several questions on the rules of the pool as they pertain to children. Although we want our members and their children to have a great time, our main priority is the safety of everyone. For the safety of our members and guests, swimmers under the age of 15 must be able to pass the OCC swim test administered by the lifeguards on duty or remain within arm s reach of an adult. Only U.S. Coast Guard approved lifejackets and wearable foam flotation devices are allowed. Users must remain within arm s reach of an adult. We thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Angie is working on a digital phone book that will be completed soon and ready for distribution. This month there will be a few interruptions to normal play due to John Deere Outings and one Corporate event. We appreciate your understanding. Mosquito is out, it s the end of the day; she s humming and hunting her evening away. Who knows why such hunger arrives on such wings at sundown? I guess it s the nature of things. N.M. 25 Men s Member/Guest Par 3 Tournament August 23rd This a 2-man team event. Teams that are already signed up for the Men s Member/Guest will play 9 holes of Par 3 s within their flights for the Member/ Guest event. Each flight is handicapped, with the corresponding handicap being subtracted from the overall score of the team. Net tournament only. Men s Member/Guest August 24th & 25th Signup for the premier event Oakwood Country Club has to offer each year. 2-man teams play five, 9 hole matches over 2 days. 1 point is available on each hole. The lowest net score on each hole wins the point for their team. Teams will be flighted in groups of 6 based on the combined handicap of the team. Team with the most points in each flight at the end of the five matches moves on to the Shootout. The winner of the shootout will be crowned the 2018 Men s Member/Guest Champion.
