2 Message from the President Clay Meininger, TCC President & COO Since my last article there has been much transpiring behind the scenes with construction here at your Club. Our first concrete pour took place October 19 in preparation of the pool mechanical room, plumbing and electrical lines were put in place at this time. The new boiler was installed which provides heat for the building. The prior heater was north of 25 years old, inefficient and very difficult to attain parts. The existing sewer line servicing the northeast side of the building was relocated. The previous sewer line ran directly under the pool from south to north. KC Gunite, our pool contractor, fully mobilized the last week of October. Installation of the main drain through the bottom of the pool has begun. The floor of the pool will be constructed next. Once complete, pouring of concrete will take place. Next, the forming of the pool walls begins. After those steps have taken place, gunite is applied on all walls. Plans for the Clubhouse and Washburn Hitting Bay were delivered to the City in late September. At the time of writing, the architects are responding to City comments. We expect to have permits in hand early November. Should you have any questions regarding construction please don t hesitate to stop by the Club. Message from the Chef Shawn Hartwig, Executive Chef What to do when it starts to get colder? My advice being that I m originally from Minnesota, put on a sweater and GO OUT. I ve had cabin fever before, it was from a Halloween snow storm. I think we got around 4 feet of snow in a day. We don t have that here, thank goodness! But think about being stuck at home for days on end, there is nothing better than going to a warm place, where you feel welcome and you know you re going to have a good meal, something tasty to drink and maybe even see a familiar face. That is what I love about our Club. Not only do I want this to be the best place for you to go out to, I really want it to be your place to escape...sometimes from the weather or from the rush of everyday life. This month, I will hopefully introduce everyone to my ugly friend. His name is Monk, Monkfish that is! Just like your mother told you, don t judge a book by it s cover. Ugly on the outside, super yummy on the plate, I know my mom was different and I love her for it. Monkfish is referred to as poor man s Lobster. So if you haven t tried it, it tastes pretty close to it. I ll be presenting four different presentations. First, a great Sicilian Fish Stew with Fennel, Roasted Garlic, Butternut Squash in a Tomato Broth just like going to Italy minus the jet lag. Next, a wonderfully light Grilled Salad with Radish, Cucumber, and Tomatoes in a Lemon Shallot Vinaigrette with hints of Basil. Crispy Medallions served on top of Sweet Pea Risotto with Romesco and Saffron Sauce- so tasty I just had to take a short break from writing this to get something to eat. And Finally, a Butter Poached Monkfish with Whipped Cauliflower and Cucumber Crust with Heirloom Tomatoes with a Savory Basil Lemon Broth. So many reasons to come inside and beat the cold. With November comes Thanksgiving, the best and my favorite of all the holidays. And if you don t want to do any work and simply sit back and relax, we are the place for you. I can always make you any part of your meal to help save you some time or the trouble, or I can make all of it too. My staff and I start with the Glazed Ham, that takes just under three weeks to cure, dry, and smoke, but if you want to do it, no problem. Next are the Pickles, since we make them ourselves, that will only take two weeks. The Turkey only takes one week, with a quick brine for 2 days, then it dries for a day, some we smoke and others we roast over the next couple of days. The Desserts take about 5 days start to finish. Remember, I love cooking so all this is fun to me, and some dishes are easy. Like the Oyster Stuffing, just need to add Celery and Onions to cut up Bread and add Eggs and Cream, so long as the Oysters are already shucked. All and all from the Smoked Chicken and Cheese Ravioli with Tomato Jus to the Pecan and Wild Rice Salad, my staff and I work for weeks until each and every dish is done. We do all this so hopefully you can relax and enjoy the holiday, so I hope to see you here at our fantastic Thanksgiving Brunch. 2 First concrete pour at TCC s new resort-style pool construction site!

3 Golf News Cory Proehl, Head Golf Professional November Golf Tip When you ask most golfers what the word PGA means to them you will get a lot of different answers. To me, the word PGA gives you three basic building blocks of your golf swing: Posture: Knees slightly bent and get yourself in an athletic position Grip: When you grip the club make sure the club is in your fingers and not in your palm. Make sure you can see the first 2 knuckles in your left hand if you are a right-handed golfer. For those of you who are lefties make sure you see the first 2 knuckles in your right hand Alignment: Make sure your feet, hips, and shoulders are parallel to the target. I hope now when you think of the word PGA you will think of these three basic building blocks of your golf swing. Handicap Corner Each month the Golf Staff will add a Handicap fact in regards to your handicap. This month s section will explain how to apply rule 3-5 from the handicap manual when players are competing from a different set of tee markers. Step 1: Calculate the players handicap from the tees being played. Step 2: Apply any handicap strokes. Step 3: Calculate the difference in USGA Course rating from the tees being played with any difference of.5 or greater rounded upward. Add the extra handicap strokes from step 3 to the Course Handicap of the player playing from the tees with the higher USGA Course Rating. We hope this simple explanation of how strokes are applied to players competing from different tees will give you a better understanding. Score posting *Just a Reminder* Last Day to post scores at TCC for the 2017 golf season is Monday, November 14. News Kent Morgison, Superintendent As has been the norm the last few years, warm temperatures persisted throughout the month of October, which in turn, made for great golfing weather the majority of the month. The welcome moderate temperatures also extended our overseeding window, as we were still seeding and germinating grass late in the month. With a successful process basically complete, we turn our attention to late fall/winter tasks of leaf cleanup and tree work, with some other projects mixed in. The nice weather also seems to have somewhat affected the fall changing of the colors; as I look out my window while TCC Greens Crew with over 200 years combined experience. Leo Pellant, Tom Bradford, Bill Eldridge, Chuck Ross, Steve Sidebottom, John Alban, John Kolodziej and David Deck. I write this, trees are still predominately full of greenery and very few trees are dropping leaves. It will only be a matter of time, however, before the foliage begins its annual transition to spectacular fall colors that help make TCC such a scenic sight. As we wind down on another successful season here at your club, I would be remiss to not recognize the people that make your golfing experience as pleasurable as possible. I am extremely fortunate to have a reliable, experienced staff here at TCC. While we mix in some great summer help from local colleges and high schools, the core of the staff that works throughout the year are the cornerstone for a successful team. I d like to introduce and/or reacquaint you to these valuable employees along with the year they started here at TCC. Assistant Superintendents- Steve Sidebottom (1977) and John Alban (2008) Mechanic- John Kolodziej (1981) Full Time Crew Members- Bill Eldridge (1978), Chuck Ross ( ) & (2006-present) Part Time Crew Members- Tom Bradford (2002), David Deck (2007), Richard Mariani (2012), Tom Thompson (2017) And, of course most of you know our retiree Leo Pellant, who began here in That equates to over 200 years of experience just at TCC alone. I am certain that you all are every bit as appreciative as I am to their loyalty and dedication to making the club the best it can be. Feel free to stop them next time you see them and thank them for their years of service. 5 Siblings Christian and Rachel Osborn looking cute in their matching shirts!

7 Women s Golf Association Susie Atha, TCCWGA Chairwoman The 2017 season came to a close on October 10th. The TCC women tried to closed the season with a fun 9-hole scramble. However, a cold front moved in and brought along with it drizzle and 20mph winds... not good for golf at all! The ladies did gather for lunch and awards as planned. What a great time of remembering the season with some good laughs and some heartfelt tears! Meef McBride did a great job of decorating and planning the day for us. A special thanks goes out to Meef and Sally Boley for preparing our awards and prizes. Our Race Against Breast Cancer event was held on October 3rd. Once again, the event was a huge success! TCCWGA raised over $1200! This amount is being matched by a very generous donor. All monies donated to the R.A.B.C. go toward paying for mammograms to those unable to afford them. Early detection is vital in winning the race against this disease. A special thanks goes to Cindy Cooper and Sue Wienckowski for organizing this event. The following awards were presented for the 2017 season: Club Champion Overall - Lyndi Cox Club Champion Low Net - Janet Frieden Edna B. Petro Putting Tournament Trophy - Sally Boley KWGA Medal Charm for Low Net - Susie Atha Low Gross Award - Vicki Conroy Thursday Horserace Awards (First Race) First - Vicki Conroy Place - Marsha Mechtley Show - Sally Boley/Michele Falley - Tied Thursday Horserace Award (Second Race) First - Vicki Conroy Putting Award - Sally Boley Catherine Merchant Award - Gail Eliason Jo Alberg Award - Susie Atha Madam X Susie Atha Memorial Award - Margaret Corwin and Karen Exon Congratulations to all!
