2018 has been an eventful year with many new programs brought to Legend Oaks. While the weather was tough at times, it could have been even worse with the near misses of two hurricanes.

2 News Around The Club... Dear Legend Oaks Members and Families, Welcome to the final digital edition of 2018, Club News As we wind the year down and head into the holiday season, it is a time to be joyous has been an eventful year with many new programs brought to Legend Oaks. While the weather was tough at times, it could have been even worse with the near misses of two hurricanes. Our team has significantly improved over the last 12 months and we believe there are many bright spots in store for In November, we had a successful and fun packed Member/Member golf tournament, won by Keith and Andrew Sloan. We also hosted our annual Legend Oaks Gives Back Golf Tournament Event and raised over $13,000 for Meals on Wheels of Summerville! Since we began Legend Oaks Gives Back 10 years ago, the various initiatives have raised over $345,000, which we are very proud of and hope to see this only grow larger in the future. For this to happen we do need volunteers, so drop by the clubhouse or to let us know you would like to help. Lastly, in November we also had our Annual All Member Meeting to discuss 2018 and present the 2019 plan for the club. Looking toward 2019, we stated at the member meeting that we want to continue to build on the solid membership growth and focus on facility improvements. We also stated we will not be increasing the dues for the new year. As many of our facilities are getting near replacement stage, we discussed adding a capital charge of $5 per month to golf and legend members and $20 per year to other member categories. This is critical as we look forward to major repairs to the parking lots, pool resurface, clubhouse repairs and upgraded restrooms over the coming years. It remains our goal to be your Club of Choice in the Charleston market and to also deliver a great value for the dollar. We will also be featuring a Holiday Menu for all, complete with festive drinks! ALL Legend Oaks HOA children will receive complimentary Pancake breakfast and photo by the Grande Oak Trees! 4 Hello Golfers! Golf News I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! I would like to thank all that attended the Annual Member Meeting in November. Mark your calendars for January 8 th at 6pm as we meet to discuss and educate golfers on the new USGA 2019 Rule Changes. We have some great updates for 2019 with our new scorecards that will list our new hole by hole ratings and blended tees: Blue/White and White/Red blend. This is going to give you more options to play a different yardage golf course and allow our tournament play to benefit all golfers abilities. Special thanks to our handicap committee for their hard work and support. The Committee and I are very happy with the 2019 scorecard and are excited for the new tournament changes. To ensure the integrity of our tournaments, they will be reviewing all members GHIN posting activities to ensure everyone is posting from the correct Slope and Rating. If you have any questions for the Handicap Committee, they can be reach at handicap@legendoaksgolf.com. Congratulations to Keith and Andrew Sloan who won the 2018 Member Member Tournament, I would like to thank all that participated in the event. Our Fourball matchplay is at the Semi Final stages so we hope to have a champion in the next few weeks. News From The Course Superintendent Hello Golfers! Winter is upon us and it looks to be a wet one.

We have not received large amounts of rain, but this time of year 0.5 of rain is like 3.0 in the summer.

We need to be as careful as possible even when just pulling your carts off the edge of the path.

I would greatly appreciate our members help in this, both while playing and by reporting such incidents to the ProShop.

After removing all the dirt, we will create a parking area for the range by adding shell sand along this side of the cart path. We will add some landscaping as well.

As you may have seen, although the course was cart path only on the days it occurred, we have had several mud ruts on various fairways. We have not received large amounts of rain, but this time of year 0.5 of rain is like 3.0 in the summer. The grass and trees have stopped absorbing water and the temperatures are not ideal for quick drying. Consequently the rain just sits on the surface. We need to be as careful as possible even when just pulling your carts off the edge of the path. If there is water on the cart path, please drive thru it slowly and not around it on the grass. I would greatly appreciate our members help in this, both while playing and by reporting such incidents to the ProShop. A big congratulations and applause is in order for the Ashley Ridge High School Girls Tennis team.

Arianna Brim and Kate Schmedeke were both named to the All-Region team, while the team finished 2 nd place in the region. We are very proud of these girls! I have some exciting junior tennis news.

Caroline is a wonderful person and is also a great tennis player. She is an 8 th grade homeschooled student that lives in Legend Oaks and plays for the Ashley Ridge High School tennis team.

In October, she played in the Massage Envy JR tennis Invitational in Charleston and was the finalist in her division.

They completed a fantastic tennis season with an overall record of 11-6 and made it to the 2 nd round of the SC state playoffs. I will be starting a new segment of the tennis newsletter where I spotlight standout junior players for their hard work and tennis accomplishments. JR FEMALE SPOTLIGHT: Caroline Jacky! Caroline is a wonderful person and is also a great tennis player. She is an 8 th grade homeschooled student that lives in Legend Oaks and plays for the Ashley Ridge High School tennis team. She competed at #3 singles and amassed a season record of 15-3 (an 83% win record) and won both her playoff matches. In October, she played in the Massage Envy JR tennis Invitational in Charleston and was the finalist in her division. At a young age, Greyson has developed a hard work ethic and desire to compete at the highest level. He is ranked #57 in USTA South Carolina in 10 and under. His 12 and under Advanced Junior Team Tennis team is currently tied for first place in the Low Country for the fall season! You can find him participating in the high school tennis clinics, private lessons, or having fun family tennis time. Keep up the great work Greyson!
