We look forward to seeing you at the club. Welcome also to our new golf course Superintendent Matt Kowal. Matt joins us from Ledges Golf Course in South Hadley where he has been the golf course superintendent for the past year. Benefits of the plan include: Paying next year s dues at this year s rate. his avoids any potential dues increases for next year. Dividing next year s dues into 9 monthly GOLF COMMIEE At the time I am writing this, our Labor Day 4 Ball is underway and we are enjoying a great weekend for golf. he Mackintosh/Mattson championship includes 72 teams competing in 9 flights with lots of fun events over the weekend. After this very tough summer for us, the weather gods have finally given us the good weather we deserve. Members should not put away their clubs after Labor Day as we have the course back in great shape and there are plenty of excellent golf days ahead of us. We have a Women s Guest Day on Sunday, September 11, the Couples Glo-Ball ournament on Friday, September 16 to close the Couple s League, and on Saturday, September 17 a two-person scramble event which includes a men s, ladies and mixed divisions. Of course, you should all get out and play as much golf as you can in September. In October, we are planning an additional tournament on Sunday, October 9. by Dean Helm installments beginning in September and ending in May of next year. Avoiding large dues payments at holiday time. CCW is also using this program as an easy way for new members to join the club. ew members can actively use the club after making their first installment payment. Since they are paying for next year s dues, they essentially gain use of the club this fall season for free! ell your friends! If interested in taking advantage of this installment payment plan, contact me by at dhelm@ccofwilbraham.com or call me at Looking for the club news and information? As mentioned in last months article, all scores that are not tournament scores or league scores must be posted. Members have complained that some players do not believe they need to enter scores that they believe are practice rounds. Practice is done on the driving range. he U.S.G.A. deems practice rounds as legitimate scores for handicap purposes so these scores should be posted. It is not fair to you or your opponent not to enter scores for the reason of keeping your handicap high. What happens if I fail to post a score or post one in error? Post the score as soon as possible. he Handicap Committee can post a penalty score for any score not posted equal to the highest or lowest Handicap Differential. Regular absence of posting can result in adjustment or withdrawal of a Handicap Index. (From the USGA Handicap Reference Guide). Quiz for September 1. 3 Page 3 GROUD COMMIEE As I write this I am looking forward to the 4-ball ourney. I really was not sure that we would have a playable course for the event. First the tornado, (thankfully minimal damage), then the microburst really changed the character of the front nine. We didn t suffer any known damage from the earthquake but then we were visited by Irene! I m still looking for the locusts. hanks to the great efforts of om Wilson and all members of the grounds crew, as well as to Bill Hick and all the volunteers he organized over a number of work days, we have a very playable course. You will notice, still, areas that need further cleanup or repair but we can play. We will be developing plans to address playability issues as a result of a number of trees lost. o those who haven t heard, we lost om Wilson s services. Due to family needs he has taken another job which will allow him to address those needs. Earlier in the season, these two clubs halved a match on the Amherst course. Winding out the month, Sept. 28, our senior men will play an in-house competition vs the staff in a yet to be determined format. his is always a fun time. On October 5, the Knights will travel to the Country Club of Greenfield for a match with their senior group. his was rescheduled from September 7 and will be the first time that many of our members have played that course. It is anticipated that the Greenfield group will be out to avenge a 25 ½ to 16 ½ defeat in an early visit to CCW. Our senior men do have good time playing golf. If you are retired and are available on Wednesday mornings, come join us. We do enjoy the game.
