4 * * * GOLFING RULES * * * GENERAL United States Golf Association (USGA) rules govern all play except where modified by local rules. The Golf Professional / Committee chairman has the right to modify USGA rules of play as deemed necessary by effects of weather on the golf course, disease / drought conditions of golf course, different formats of play, etc. All players must register in the Golf Shop before play! The CCW alternates the tee upon which players start on a weekly basis Monday through Friday. The starting tee will alternate between hole #1 and #10. The Golf Shop staff will determine the order of play from the first tee. All members of a golfing group must be present and registered before the group will be assigned a position on the tee. No one may bring alcoholic beverages of any kind onto club premises under any circumstances! All beverages or food consumed on club premises should be purchased at the clubhouse or beverage cart. Walking play is allowed, except during league play and tournament play. However, in the interest of maintaining a desirable pace of play, the use of golf carts is encouraged. Allow faster players to play through. Golfers wishing to use a golf cart must be of legal driving age and have a valid driver s license. Golf carts are to be kept on cart paths next to all tees and greens. Carts should be kept away from wooded areas and areas with raised roots. When approaching greens, golf carts must be kept at least twenty yards away from the green. Pull carts must be kept at least twenty feet from greens. Single players or twosomes have no standing on the golf course. The golf shop staff will make every effort to facilitate singles or twosomes by pairing them with others to make threesomes or foursomes. Any exceptions will be made at the professional staff s discretion and require their approval. Shoes must be acceptable golf shoes or sneakers. Metal/Ceramic spikes are not permitted. Soft spikes (non-metal) are available in the Golf Shop at a reasonable cost. Practicing shall be contained to practice areas: driving range, chipping green, putting green. Practicing (hitting multiple shots from the same area) is not allowed on the golf course. Retrieving balls from the driving range is not allowed and could result in injury. A member shall be liable for any damage to the property of the Club, including carts, resulting from negligence by the member or his/her guest(s). The Board of Directors has authorized the Golf Professional staff to enforce golf etiquette during play, as well as the rules of the Club. This includes; but is not limited to; slow play, replacing divots, raking bunkers, repairing ball marks, keeping carts within designated areas, appropriate attire, and proper conduct. Any repeated warnings to individuals or groups will be referred through the Golf Committee to the Board of Directors, where disciplinary action may be taken. Failure to comply with any rules could result in suspension of playing privileges or expulsion from the Club. HANDICAPS The Country Club of Wilbraham subscribes to the GHIN handicap system. This insures that your handicap is current and will be adjusted based on the slope rating of the course you are playing. We continue to endorse the guidelines of the USGA Handicap System. A brief summary follows: Two basic premises underlie the USGA Handicap System, namely that each player will try to make the best score at every hole in every round, regardless of where the round is played, and that the player will post every acceptable round for peer review. The player and the player s Handicap Committee have joint responsibility for adhering to these premises. Peer Review Peer review is the process of providing a reasonable and regular opportunity for members of a golf club to play with each other, and of providing access to scoring records and a Handicap Index list for inspection by others including but not limited to fellow members and the Handicap Committee. Equitable Stroke Control All scores for handicap purposes, including tournament scores, are subject to the application of Equitable Stroke Control (ESC). This mandatory procedure reduces high hole scores for handicap purposes in order to make handicaps more representative of a player s potential ability. Unfinished Holes and Conceded Strokes A player who starts but does not complete a hole or is conceded a stroke must record for handicap purposes the most likely score. The most likely score consists of the num-

5 ber of strokes already taken plus, in the player s best judgment, the number of strokes the player would need to take to complete the hole from that position more than half of the time. The most likely score must not exceed the player s Equitable Stroke Control limit. An X should precede the most likely score. There is no limit on the number of holes to which this applies. When a Complete Round Is Not Played If thirteen (13) or more holes are played the player must post an eighteen (18) hole score. If 7 to 12 holes are played, the player must post a nine hole score. If a player does not play a hole or plays it other than under the Rules Of Golf, the score recorded for that hole for handicap purposes must be par plus any handicap strokes the player is entitled to receive on that hole. An X should precede this score. Examples of not playing under the Rules Of Golf are playing two balls and not finishing a hole due to construction. All scores on rounds played under the rules of golf at any golf course during that course s official golf season must be recorded. This includes all rounds of 13 holes or more, (un-played holes are recorded as your strokes fall), 9 hole rounds (or where 7-12 holes have been played), tournament scores (stroke, match play, multi-ball or team competitions in which players have not competed one or more holes or in which players are requested to pick up when out of contention on a hole) with conceded holes recorded as most probable score. Scores must be adjusted according to the ESC (Equitable Stroke Control) - See chart posted on the wall next to the GHIN computer. DRESS CODE All clothing and shoes must be neat and acceptable as typical golf attire. No short-shorts, cut-offs, jeans, swimwear, or dungarees. Shirts must be of the type sold in a Golf Shop. Men s shirts must have collars. Collars include turtle neck and mock turtle neck shirts. It is preferred that non-banded shirt tails be tucked in one s waistband. The Golf Staff will use its discretion in denying entry to anyone not meeting the above requirements. PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED PERSONS It is the policy of The Country Club of Wilbraham to accommodate all physically challenged golfers. If there is a special need when using our facilities or playing our golf course, the Golf Shop will assist in any way possible to make the golfing experience pleasant and enjoyable. Special cart flags are available for physically challenged golfers, permitting the cart closer access to the tees, greens, and other areas where carts are not normally allowed. The CCW Handicap Committee ensures that the rules are followed and assesses penalties as required. TIE BREAKING For the purpose of awarding prizes, ties will be treated as follows: LAST PAID PLACE. Ties broken by following USGA recommended formula. ALL OTHER PLACES. Each place will be awarded an equal share of the combined total for places tied. In the event a tie occurs that will exceed the number of paid places, the place where the tie began will be treated as last place. Elimination will be conducted by matching cards until the appropriate number of paid places have been achieved.

Have-A-Ball and Turkey Shoot The formats for these two tournaments vary from year to year.
