6 Fairway Ladies Our Fairway Ladies WGA 9 Invitational was held January 24 and was attended by 76 players. Rain prevented us from playing golf. However, there was a Plan B prepared and Peg Ansboro did a great job of running the Bingo event. Everyone had a lot of fun and several ladies from other clubs expressed an interest in joining our league this summer. Norma Rumbaugh and Betty Weed and her helpers worked hard to put together an invitational that was a great success in spite of the weather. Thanks to all of our Miles Grant WGA18 golfers who supported our invitational. On January 31, together with our WGA 18, we had a pizza buffet and rules seminar. Bob Hunter went over some of the new rules and answered many questions members had regarding the changes to the 2019 Golf Rules. Coming up is our Club Championship. First round is March 19 and final round and lunch is March 21. Be sure to bring your A Game. Barbara Campbell WGA18 News It seems no one emphasizes the importance of stretching exercises before golf. This can be a PAIN IN THE NECK. Several golfers I know complain about it (the pain in the neck that is). It s called the LEVITOR muscle and stretches from the shoulder up into the back of the neck. Light stretching exercises prior to golf may help this. Also, flexing the arms may prevent tennis elbow. Tennis players don t have a monopoly on this though. HIT EM STRAIGHT Joanie Robbins, Pres/Tres. Court Report PEG ANSBRO REPORTS: The Battle of the Sexes was held on Saturday, February 23rd. See the newsletter next month for the results. The March Tennis Brunch will be held on Sunday, March 10th at 11:00 in the Miles Grant dining room. It is open to all tennis members and their spouses. Remember to set your clocks ahead because it is the first day of Daylight Savings Time. The women's tennis team just finished their first half and is ranked in the middle of the pack. There is very tough competition this season among the eleven teams. Our team will be in Flight II in Round II. We are grateful for Dave Coutts' guidance and great clinics. As always, Dave is available for lessons to all our members and guests. Besides tennis, he also teaches bocce and pickleball. Dave can be reached at. couttstennis@gmail.com or at (410) I must also give special thanks to Jim Brown for his wonderful photographic coverage of all tennis events. Come on down and enjoy the new courts. I play Cinderella tennis. Sometimes I don t make it to the ball!! I just Love, Love, Love!!! PETER HAUTH REPORTS: Half the season of our B-2 Tennis League is behind us and we are above 50% in our Won-Lost category. This is not great but satisfactory. This has been the wettest tennis season that we ve encountered. So far we had THREE rainouts and we are only half through the schedule! This year our league stands on its head! Last years last place team is now leading the league. Last year we won 10-0 against them this year we LOST 10-0! Our morning tennis continues well with many players, so many in fact, that our Pro Dave sometimes has to chase us off his court. MIKE PISANO REPORTS: The Treasure Coast Senior Men s Tennis League is at the halfway point in the season. We have one rainout to make up against North River Shores Tennis Club. We won our first two matches against Monarch Country Club s A and B teams. We swept the maximum eight sets in each match. The following week was the rainout and then in week four we lost a close match 6-5 at Mariner Sands. This past week we beat Buttonwood 5-4 in a match that was transferred from Miles Grant to Buttonwood due to wet courts after a brief downpour. We continue to win more than 70% of the sets played giving us a real good chance of winning the league championship for a third consecutive year. Book club meeting will be Monday, March 4th at 3:30 p.m. See you soon, Sue Bull COVE READERS MAH JONGG LESSONS Mah Jongg lessons will be offered at the Club in March on Wednesday and Friday. Probable starting time 1 p.m. If you would like to learn or be refreshed on this fun tile game, call Mary Moody at Page 6
