1 THE CLUB AT 12 OAKS MEMBER NEWSLETTER AUGUST 2015 Greetings from the GM s Office Mike Biscotti, General Manager With the multi-purpose room complete, our Lifestyle Director Rachel Roos is working to expand our programming, activities and fitness offerings. The multi-purpose room is well equipped with a 55 television and audio system; which makes it a perfect space for a private party or business function. Please contact Bruce Jantella to reserve this space. The bike parade and 4 th of July BBQ kicked the month off, with over 100 members and guest enjoying the festivities! Our 2 nd annual Luau was enjoyed by 75+ members and guest. The food and beverage team served a delicious Polynesian meal which included a slow roasted pig and the Hula and Fire dancer was the perfect entertainment for the evening. If you missed our Trivia Night in the Grill, not to worry we have another evening planned on August 19. Our tweens joined Chef Ebony from our Food and Beverage Department, on July 25 and the learned how to prepare and decorate cupcakes! More events like these will be added to our programming. For the month of August, we have Karaoke Under The Stars, Musical Bingo for the adults, Beach Blanket Bingo poolside for the family, Family Putting Tournaments, Couples 9 & Dine and Ladies 3 Hole Golf and Community Garden Party. 4 Golf Maintenance - James Reese, GCSAA Class A Golf Course Superintendent July was a very hot month! Despite the extreme weather, the greens are surviving. We are giving them as much TLC as we can and will continue to spike once a week. We have also decreased our mowing to every third day and rolling the greens in between in order to decrease stress on the greens. The lulls in the heat we experienced toward the end of the month will allow the bent grass recover from the high swings. We have noticed cut worms on the Greens and will be applying an insecticide to minimize their damage to the turf. The Bermuda grass is healthy and we have decided to delay the second fertilizer application to the week of August 27 th. Assistant Superintendant Clinton Tingen has taken a position at Chapel Ridge Golf Course as Senior Assistant Superintendant. We wish him success at his new course. Be careful performing activities in the extreme heat, please remember to stay hydrated. The Putting Course is open for play just check in at the Pro Shop for a score card. Remember to fill divots, repair ball marks and rake your bunkers.

5 Golf - Mike Mueller, Head Golf Pro As Summer begins to wind down, we head into our Championship Season. Tune up for the Championships by playing in our inaugural 12 Oaks Ryder Cup on August 22 & 23. We will split the field into two teams and they will battle each other each day in a match play format. Club Championship Weekend is September 12 & 13, and we will contest our Men s, Senior Men s, Women s and Junior Championships that weekend. The final Major of the year will take place October as we play our annual Member-Member Tournament known as The Main Event. Tim Driver & Brian Urban will attempt to defend their title and keep the coveted Championship Belts for another year! All three tournaments are points earning events for the season ending Champions Cup on October 31 & November 1, with the winners of The Main Event and all winners on Club Championship weekend earning an automatic invitation into The Champions Cup. The 4th of July Parade brought a crowd of creative bikes and wagons. The rescheduled Luau was also very successful! The Food and Beverage team created a fabulous feast, including a whole pig! Everyone in attendance enjoyed good food, great company, and a fun show featuring hula and fire dancing. We look forward to the Luau becoming a beloved tradition. Lunch menu available from 11:00-6:00pm Grill Dress Code Proper attire is required to enter the Poolside Grill Dining Room. No swimming attire will be permitted. For those who would like to dine while at the pool, the walk-up window is available during normal Grill hours and your food will be delivered to you. The Poolside Patio, located just outside the Grill, is also available and offers full service.

11 Kids & Teens We continue to see great success in the Get Out and Play program. Kids have enjoyed collecting tickets at Swim Team and Junior Golf Academy, as well as at specific Get Out and Play events. We encourage kids to check the weekly s for Get Out and Play Events and to continue collecting tickets through Labor Day. Tickets may be redeemed with Rachel until September 12. We hosted a Cupcake Class this month, which was a lot of fun. Twelve tweens watched Chef Ebony s demonstration, then enjoyed decorating their own cupcakes. This month we look forward to the Teen s Photo Scavenger Hunt and hope to see a diverse group of teens from around the neighborhood. As we continue to grow our membership, we are striving to add additional activities that will appeal to Kids and Teens. 16 From the Developer BEGIN THE COUNTDOWN to the NEW 12 OAKS It s official. We re counting down.. Who s ready for the new 12 Oaks? We are! Your whole team. You - the residents and the members. Your friends and the kids and their play dates. How about your families that wish they lived here? The realtors begging to show property. Our whole community. 12 Oaks is getting a redesign before the design was considered old. Didn t you pick the right place? So, who s behind the improvements (and chaos)? HINT/Harris INTERIORS is the firm and they re led by Kelley Harris, the Principal Designer; he and HINT s team are the masterminds behind the interior design updates at 12 Oaks. Mr. Harris, who is a UGA grad (we have a few Dawgs in our community!), spent almost a decade at the South s oldest hospitality design agency Ferry, Hayes + Allen Designers, Inc. That s where he learned the ropes - they specialize in private country, city and golf clubs - and he credits his appreciation for and knowledge of superior but classic interior design to his time there. Well, what are we getting here at 12 Oaks? First, remember to check our website ( and - for the latest and greatest - follow the Facebook page ( for progress updates, pictures, details on each amenity and what s going on to the minute. That s your best bet at knowing it all. The plan is: something for everyone! Kelley and his team at HINT are working hard to perfect the wish lists to meet everyone s wants and needs. And, what to expect. Kelley and his team at HINT/Harris INTERIORS have exceeded our expectations and we know you, as residents and members, will be proud of the finished product. Their firm is built upon three qualities that Kelley swears by and prides himself on. Those three qualities are what we are expecting 12 Oaks to be: creative, personal, and timeless. 18 Garden Club Garden Swap August 23, Sunday, 4-6 pm Community Garden Open to all Club at 12 Oaks Members. In order to participate, your entry fee will be the donation of a plant (can even be something harvested from your garden), seeds, garden tool, garden book, garden art, or anything garden related. I encourage each person to "donate" more than one item. Each person who provides an item for the "swap" will be entitled to select 1 item based upon a random draw in the first round. After the first round, remaining items will be auctioned off to the highest bidder. All proceeds will be donated to the Holly Springs Food pantry. Feel free to bring perishable goods to donate as well. Let's build the community spirit by giving back to the community of those who are hungry! Bring your donations and a chair and join in the fun!
