1 THE CLUB AT 12 OAKS MEMBER NEWSLETTER JUNE 2016 Greetings from the GM s Office - Bill Fitzpatrick, General Manager Please join us in welcoming Bill Fitzpatrick as our new General Manager Bill Fitzpatrick has over 25 years of club industry experience. Bill received his education from Indiana University (BA) and graduate study in the School of Architecture at Clemson University. He entered into club management in Houston, Texas with Club Corporation of America now Club Corp. His success there allowed him to move on to become Principal and President of Jacksonville, Florida Golf Management Company, Stokes O Steen Management Group. The company developed, built and operated six golf course communities. The properties and clubs included the distinguished private club and community called Marsh Landing at Sawgrass, in Ponte Vedra, Florida, and the Summer Beach Resort and Residential Community on Amelia Island. The club at Summer Beach is The Golf Club of Amelia Island and includes the Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island. Bill has held executive positions; including Director of Operations for the Arnold Palmer Golf Management Company (APGMC), Orlando, Florida, overseeing all Arnold Palmer managed facilities. APGMC also provided support for all International Management Group (IMG) clients with golf design and golf management activities through out the world. Later, Bill moved to Atlanta to take an executive position with Sumitomo Corporation of America (SCOA). SCOA is the American subsidiary of Japan s Sumitomo Corporation, a worldwide conglomerate. He assumed the role as President of Hamilton Mill Golf Course Inc. in association with SCOA s entry into the real estate development business and its first golf course community. Bill oversaw construction of the golf course, the clubhouse, and the amenity complexes in this master-planned community. His role expanded to include management of the Homeowner Association for the 1,500-acre, 2,200 home community. Most recently Bill was the Chief Operating Officer/General Manager of the highly regarded Champions Retreat Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. The private club located in the gated community called The Reserve featured 27 holes of golf designed by The Big Three - Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, and Gary Player. The club gained recognition as one of Rolex World s Top 1,000 Golf Courses and Has consistently ranked in top golf courses in Georgia by Golf Digest. Bill and his wife Pat have two children: Madison, 23 and Colin, Green Oaks Parkway Holly Springs, NC

4 Amateur Golf World Cup Earlier this year, we announced Jim Harvey as one of two Palmer Advantage Platinum Members from across the country selected to represent the United States at the Amateur Golf World Cup. Mr. & Mrs. Harvey spent five days at the Sheraton Deva Resort & Spa on the beautiful island of New Caledonia. Thank you for representing 12 Oaks, Mr. Harvey!

5 Golf - Mike Mueller, Head Golf Pro The calendar is flipping to June which means we are nearing the date of our greens resurfacing project. We have a few events for you before that happens, including the Red, White, and Blue-themed Couples 9 & Dine on June 4 and The Fallen Oak course closing event on June 5. See the online calendar at for more information about each event. A full field of 60 members and 60 guests participated in the 2016 Golden Oak Invitational from May The weather cooperated long enough to crown 10 Flight Winners, and after an exciting Championship Shootout, David Oldham and Dean Fisher won the title of 2016 Golden Oak Invitational Champions. Congratulations to Chuck Denning, who made his 2nd career hole-in-one during the tournament on the 15th hole. Thank you to everyone who participated in the event! Wow, what a push it was to get caught up on the course work! The Maintenance Staff really pulled things together. I am grateful for all their extra work. Again, we have hired a bunch of new staff for the season. They are all new to Golf Course Maintenance, so the work they re doing is new to them. They may not always do the right thing, but give them a minute if they don t see you and let them know they are in your hitting zone. The Greens Renovation is coming up; we have been getting ready for the last few weeks. We will have temp Greens marked on the course with a flag stick holder as a target. The temp Greens will generally be 30 to 40 yards short of the Green. Mike has set up reciprocals with numerous courses in the area. Contact the Pro Shop for a list. We close for renovation beginning June 6 th. Then I will be praying for good grass growing weather! I encourage all golfers to follow proper golf etiquette. Rake bunkers, fill divots, and repair ball marks.

9 Events & Activities - Rachel Roos, Lifestyle Director What a great month May was! The Annual Mother-Daughter Tea was well attended with mothers and daughters of all ages enjoying time together. Our first-ever Kentucky Derby Party was a great evening. Chef Richard put together a fantastic menu of traditional Derby treats, and the staff served all the Derby favorites. We look forward to this event growing in the future. We would also like to congratulate our Bow Tie and Hat Contest winners (see photo page). The weather held out on Memorial Day, and people enjoyed games and music. The Dive was very popular as it has been in the past, and we added a Kool-Aide Dive for the kids, which was also very popular. June will be a fantastic month with something for everyone. Join us on June 1 in the Multipurpose Room as Caroline Farmer of the North Carolina Attorney General s Office discusses ways to protect yourself and your family from financial scams. We encourage all members to come and gain this important knowledge. We are very excited to host our first Daddy-Daughter Dance on June 18th. This event has been much anticipated and sold out within a matter of days. While we do our best to accommodate as many members as possible at events, we remind you that many events sell out and encourage you to RSVP as early as possible. The dance will feature a DJ, a sit-down dinner, and plenty of memories for dads and their girls. For members with sons, we look forward to hosting parent-son events a bit later in the year. The Caribbean Beach Party will also be a great event and an opportunity for members to enjoy an adult-only setting with great food and a great atmosphere. Carts must be inspected annually by the Police Department before registration. The registration fee is $50 for the first year and $20 in subsequent years. The cart must have certain safety devices that are not typical of carts used only on golf courses and other private property. These include: o o o o Headlights, taillights and reflectors Seat belts Turn signals Rear view mirror On June 4 th 2016 from 9 AM through 11 AM Sgt. Andrew Humphries with the Holly Springs Police Department will be in the Clubhouse parking lot performing the required inspections for homeowners with golf carts. This will be a great opportunity to have your golf cart inspected without having to take it to the HSPD. We encourage every golf cart owner to take advantage of this in-house inspection so you can ride around the community with the confidence that your golf cart meets the ordinance requirements. Please note: only cash or checks will be accepted as methods of payment for the registration fee. We hope you all have an enjoyable summer!
