1 THE CLUB AT 12 OAKS MEMBER NEWSLETTER JULY 2016 Greetings from the GM s Office - Bill Fitzpatrick, General Manager Thank you to the membership for being so welcoming to me. I have met several members to date and look forward to meeting all of you at some point. The Holly Springs area and the energy that is present at the Club and community is wonderful. My first weeks at the Club have been full with getting to know the members, staff, and working on the various events. The greens conversion is going well as Superintendent James Reese and his crew had the greens prepped and ready for the Champion Bermuda sprigs; the process went very smoothly. With good weather the Bermuda grass will take off and good greens are just around the corner. I know the pool has been very busy with the heat and swim team starting their season and congratulations on the first meet victory! With our growing membership the pool and the parking lot have been very crowded. However, very soon the new second amenity will open and help reduce the current stress on the Club pool. Progress is happening and preparations are being made for the Grand Opening and daily operation of the new pool and amenity. Thank you for your patience; you will soon be enjoying another great amenity at the 12 Oaks community. Currently, I am trying to listen and learn everything I can about The Club at 12 Oaks, build a relationship with the membership and the staff and doing everything I can to enhance the member experience. I am here to make your Club experience the best it can be. I want our management culture to always place members first, as this is your Club and a critical part of your lifestyle here at the 12 Oaks community. You don t have to be a golfer to join this group, simply come out to meet other ladies and enjoy time away from the course for some girl time. If you missed the first Wine Tasting Event on June 22, be sure attend the next event in August (date to be determined).

4 Golf - Mike Mueller, Head Golf Pro June was a slow golf month, with the closing of the course for the greens resurfacing project. Now that the course is open again (with temporary greens), we hope to see all of you back out soon. If you are taking advantage of the reciprocal play agreements that we have arranged with other local clubs, please remember the following guidelines: The 12 Oaks Professional Staff must make all tee times under the reciprocal agreements. Please call the Golf Shop at to submit a Reciprocal Tee Time Request. The names of all members of your group are required when submitting a Reciprocal Tee Time request to the 12 Oaks Professional Staff. Finally, save the date for all of the events that we have scheduled for the remainder of I want to spotlight my Golf Marathon, where I will play 108 holes in one day to raise money for The Folds of Honor Foundation. We raised $4700 in 2015, and I am certain we that we can beat that this year! The sprigs were delivered and the greens renovation has gone well. With the help of our staff, the sprigging was completed in one day. We will keep them watered to prevent the stems and stolons from drying out. Once we get good rooting we will back off on the water, with fertilizer applications and light topdressing to keep them smooth. If we get good growing weather and no major rains to wash the loose soil we should be able to play on the greens by the 3rd week in August. Course maintenance has kept us busy. We have edged tee stones, edged bunkers, and are in the process of edging irrigation heads. We have applied a broadleaf herbicide to control some summer weeds. We will keep the course manicured and green. We also wrapped up a second Bermuda Grass fertilizer application the last week of June. Please practice good golf etiquette and remember to rake bunkers and fill divots.

5 THE MONTHLY APPROACH JULY 2016 Oaky the Eagle On Friday, June 10, the maintenance staff found a beautiful bald eagle disabled on the golf course. The crew immediately contacted Steve Stone of the American Wildlife Refuge. Mr. Stone came out to the course and took the eagle back to the refuge for treatment. This breathtaking animal, a female the staff nicknamed Oaky, was treated for poisoning. Oaky recovered quickly and was able to be released on Saturday, June 18. We would like to thank James Reese and the maintenance staff for acting so quickly and Mr. Stone and his staff for helping Oaky return to health. June 10 June 18

6 Events & Activities - Rachel Roos, Lifestyle Director June was a great month, with constant social activity throughout the club. Our monthly social events such as Ladies Lunch Club and Pub Trivia Night continue to be popular. If you are looking to meet other club members, both events are a great opportunity to do so. The First Annual Daddy-Daughter Dance was a fantastic success. Forty-seven girls and their fathers enjoyed a glamorous evening complete with a red carpet, sit-down dinner, and plenty of dancing. We recognize that many families who wanted to attend were not able do so because of the high demand, and we are looking into a solution to be able to accept more reservations next year. We would like to thank the Social Committee for all their hard work and input, from providing guidance on the menu and décor to volunteering time to take photos of the event. The Caribbean Beach Party was another successful event. Guests enjoyed great music and delicious food. Don t miss out on all the fun we have planned for July. Enjoy a delicious cookout at the pool on the 4th of July. Beginning at 12:00pm until 3:00pm on the 4th, we will have poolside games including the always popular Beer Dive, the Kool Aide Dive, a balloon toss, and more. If you have never played Musical Bingo, don t miss your chance to play on July 15th! The games is similar to Name That Tune, played on a bingo board. It is always a lot of fun and we expect to sell out; RSVP early to ensure a seat. We look forward to seeing you around the Club this month! 12 Oaks Golf Club App Have you downloaded the 12 Oaks Golf Club app for your tablet or smart phone yet? On January 1st, 12 Oaks launched the app as a way to better communicate with our members. The app has a variety of features including a blog for each department, event registration, a suggestion box, a link to the online calendar, and links to contact each manager. The most useful feature of the app is the push notification system. Club staff can send out messages that will instantly appear on your device. To activate these notifications, go to the Manage Alerts page and select which information you would like to receive. Please discuss your children's swimming skills with the coaches if you would like to schedule two children in one lesson. Lessons with two children are $40 per half hour.

As our street trees are growing, it is very important that homeowners are trimming the lower branches of the street trees to prevent difficulties/nuisances when walking on the sidewalk. It was observed on a recent site inspection that many of the older and established street trees need their lower limbs trimmed back to allow a free and open space for homeowners using the public sidewalks. The Gardeners have done an awesome job this year in making this amenity a wonderful place to enjoy. It is so delightful to see so many families sharing in the thrill of growing their own food. The southern summer months are a gardener's delight with the bounty of all things green. Watering is critical this time of year due to the increased temperatures. Remember to water regularly and deeply. Avoid watering foliage as it increases opportunities for diseases.
