4 ATHLETIC CLUB/CHILDREN S ACTIVITIES Pickleball Pickleball is a simple paddle game, played with a special perforated, plastic, slow moving ball over a tennis type net on a Badminton sized court. The ball is served underhanded, swinging the paddle below the waist, without bouncing it from the court. The ball is served to the opponent's service zone. Points are scored by the serving side and occur when the opponent faults. The server continues to serve, altering service courts, until server faults. A game is one by the first team which scores 11 points, but must continue until one team achieves a two point margin Drop-in times for Members and their guests (guests must be accompanied by a member). If you bring a guest, please contact the Security Gate at and check them in at the Front Desk. Guest fees for Pickleball only are $5.00 for this event. 6 GOLF NEWS Dress Code Reminder Now that we are getting into the golf season please remember that denim is not allowed on the Golf Course, Practice Range, or in the Learning Center. Also, if you wear a hat on the golf course or around the Clubhouse please refrain from wearing it backwards Events Calendar and Member Information: We would like to give you the opportunity to plan for the golf events and golf functions.. On the golf page of the Members Only website click on the events calendar to view this year s upcoming events! 6 th Annual The Russell Golf Tournament You are invited to join for the 6 th annual ''The Russell" tournament to be held Friday, May 2 nd. This event is limited to the first 54 that sign up so please do so quickly. To kick off the 2014 tournament season we will be continuing this great tradition in which we would like you to join. Russ has retired and we are happy to have this event in place to get him back to the club at least once a year! To honor all that Russ did for The Club, we named our season opening event "The Russell." This tournament is designed for three members to play with one employee in a four person ABCD random draw best ball. We would like to create an environment of good camaraderie and fun so please feel free to invite the staff member in you group to join us following the round for Russ favorite, chicken fried steak in the La Fortezza dining room! You are invited to participate in our annual Kentucky Derby Couples Golf Party Saturday, May 3 rd. This fun event is limited to the first 12 couples who sign up and is all about having fun, so please sign up in the Golf Shop by calling (719) , by at golf@flyinghorseclub.com The format for the event will be a one net best-ball of the couple, then after the round each team will pick a horse in the Kentucky Derby field. The order in which you finish the golf portion of the event will determine the draft order of the horses. The owners of the winning horse will win the event. (COMING SOON) Junior Team Tennis is an 8 week program (6/6-7/25) of practices and match play for all kids, ages 8 18 who want to play in a team atmosphere. Teams are comprised of players of similar gender, age and skill. They compete with other teams from the same geographic region in one of four divisions: 10 & Under, 12 & Under, 14 & Under, and 18 & Under. Within these age divisions there are levels for beginner, intermediate, and advanced players. The age division cut-off is the age of the player as of August 10, The format for Team Tennis is 2 singles and 1 doubles. Pricing includes team shirt and USTA registration. 10 TENNIS NEWS DEVELOPMENTAL PROGRAMS Little Lobbers/Beginners Little Lobbers Monday and/or Wednesday (5:30-6:30) Beginners Tuesday and/or Thursday (5:30-6: 30) This program is designed for children aged 4-8 (Little Lobbers) and 9-13 (Beginners) who are in the beginning stages of playing tennis. Children are placed into groups based on age and ability. Our emphasis here is teaching fundamentals, the importance of good sportsmanship and, of course, to have fun playing the game of tennis. These classes will be taught on a 60ft. court. Member Price: one day - $100 two day - $185 Non-Member Price: one day - $125 two day - $230 Pay as you go rate - $22 (M) & $27 (NM) COMPETITIVE PROGRAMS Intro to H. Remember that you are still in charge of your health and fitness so keep up the hard work and live your everyday life as healthy as you can! Group Fitness Taking Pulses during group Fitness Classes: Instructors will begin taking pulse checks during all group fitness classes effective April 1 st. This means that approximately every 20 minutes there will be a quick pulse check determined by the calculation of your age X.60 for beginner, X.70 for intermediate and X.85 for advanced. Please keep in mind that those calculations are not your max heart rate but merely guides in assisting in your workouts. Pulses will be taken either on your neck or wrist. Pulse taking posters and calculations for your age are hanging in both Group Fitness rooms to assist you in achieving your target fitness rate. Evening Classes: Join us for our evening group fitness classes on Mondays- Thursdays. There is something for everyone. From Yoga and Barre at night to Cardio Pump.. Pre-season runs April through May and offers a great opportunity to get a leg-up on the summer league competition. With video review, drill progression, strength and conditioning, and a low swimmer to coach ratio, this program will help you make a seamless transition into summer league practices. The Kids Cabin will remain open until 8:00 pm for the following event: Monday Evenings for Adult Tennis League & Men s Pick-up Basketball Thursday Evening for Family Dinner Night Date Night is offered Friday & Saturday nights 7:00-9:00pm while you dine in La Fortezza or the Tack Room. As an added benefit, Monthly Pass holders will not pay an additional charge. If you do not have a Monthly Pass, the fee per hour per child is $3.00. **Reservations are required no later than 12:00pm on the day of the reservation so we can staff appropriately. Based on availability we will accept reservations after this time (Please call the Kids Cabin to confirm). If reservations are not received, the Kids Cabin will close at our normal time. As usual children may stay in the Kids Cabin a maximum of 3 hours in a 24 hour period. 13
